The Roman Catholic Diocese of Meerut (Latin: Meeruten(sis)) is a diocese located in the city of Meerut in the Ecclesiastical province of Agra in India.

St. Mary's Academy is a private Catholic convent school in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. Bhoopgarhi is a small village in the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, near the Vikas Khand administrative region of Jani Khurd, on the Bagpat road. The village was established in 1910 by Chaudhary Bhoopat Singh Teotia, who came from Bhatona village in Bulandshahar, West Uttar Pradesh. It is also associated with former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. The population today is around 700, of whom all are Hindus of the Teotia gotra of Jats. The village's present gram pradhan (village leader) is Anil kumar. The village had a literacy rate of 95.2% in 2009. The villagers are predominantly farmers, and water from the Gaangnehar canal is used as irrigation to sustain sugarcane cultivation in the village.

On 10 April 2006 at about 17:30 IST (12:00 UTC), a fire swept through a consumer electronics fair (Brand India Fair) in Victoria Park, Meerut, killing 65 people and injuring 150 others. The fire was said to have been caused by a short circuit. An estimated 2,000 people were at the fair when the fire broke out. The Consumer Trade Fair, where the fire broke out, was being organized by Brand India Consumers Forum and was jointly sponsored by the local Dainik Jagaran. The fair was being held in 100 metres long air-conditioned tents with only one main entry point and the exit was either through the hall C or from the backside food stalls area. The organisers had not obtained a No Objection Certificate from the fire department, but had duly conveyed the CFO in writing, as required. The fire took place on the last day & last hour of the five-day fair and trapped at least 3000 people within the venue. While one version said that the fire was caused by a short circuit, another account said that it began in a furniture shop where spirit polish was being used. The stories spread that fire was fuelled further by the bursting of cooking gas cylinders used by the makeshift eateries within the venue, which however was never substantiated later. In all, three giant tents were destroyed. The fire spread within five minutes and as there were only one entrance and one exit in each hall, apart from a few not very visibly highlighted Emergency Exits, the children and women got trapped in it as the fire blazed rapidly. The army and the Rapid Action Force was called in to help with rescue efforts.

St. Thomas' English Medium School, also known as STEMS, is a school located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India, established in 1972 by the late (Ms) K. Norhona. Started as very small school with little funds, it is now an eminent educational institution producing top class students for several years. STEMS is affiliated to the ICSE Board. Every year some of the students compete for, and enter Indian Institutes of Technology after passing out of STEMS. The school prepares pupil in various educational streams which are mostly mandatory with few optional subjects. English, being the dominant language of communication (both written and verbal), all the subjects are taught in English language; apart from Hindi (subject), which is an exception and a regional language. Terminal examinations are held thrice every year to keep a performance check and provide feedback about students' progress. Students are required to answer a set of questions, typically by handwriting all answers on blank sheets of paper, without any biblical or external help in the designated amount of time. Teachers then verify these sheets and award points to every student accordingly. Students are ranked in the order of score. Every year there are students who either fail to secure minimum marks or do not have a minimum attendance. The Battle of Meerut was a military Skirmish initiated by Emperor Ahmed Shah Durrani in an attempt to capture Govind Pant Bundele, who had taken refuge in Meerut.Emperor Ahmad Shah Abdali dispatched Atai Khan with a small army of Afghans to Meerut. Govind Pant Bundele was ready to face the Afghan forces with his light cavalry of ten thousand soldiers. A fierce battle ensued between the two adversaries in Meerut.

Meerut Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This constituency covers parts of Meerut and Hapur districts.
