Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen

The Institute for Health and Consumer Protection or IHCP, located in Ispra, Italy, is one of the seven institutes of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), a Directorate-General of the European Commission (EC). The Institute for Health and Consumer Protection provides scientific support to the development and implementation of European Union policies related to health and consumer protection. The institute carries out research to improve the understanding of potential health risks posed by chemicals, biocides, genetically modified organisms, contaminants released from food contact materials and consumer products.

Taino (Italian pronunciation: [taˈiːno]) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 50 km northwest of Milan and about 20 km southwest of Varese. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 3,353 and an area of 7.7 km2.The municipality of Taino contains the frazione (subdivision) Cheglio (pronounced [ˈkeʎʎo]). Taino borders the following municipalities: Angera, Sesto Calende.

Osmate was a comune (municipality) in the Province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 50 kilometres (31 mi) northwest of Milan and about 13 kilometres (8 mi) southwest of Varese. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 550 and an area of 3.4 square kilometres (1.3 sq mi).In 2019 it merged with the nearby Cadrezzate forming the new municipality of Cadrezzate con Osmate.

As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,253 and an area of 2.8 square kilometres (1.1 sq mi).Malgesso borders the following municipalities: Bardello, Besozzo, Brebbia, Bregano, Travedona-Monate.

Besozzo railway station (Italian: Stazione di Besozzo) is a railway station in the comune of Besozzo, in the Italian region of Lombardy. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Luino–Milan line of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana. The station was also a stop on the Varese–Angera tramway from 1914 to 1940.

Besozzo is a town and municipality located in the province of Varese, in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Besozzo hosts a small historical centre with churches and noble houses, so-called Palazzi, in its upper part which is in part pedestrian zone, and a vivid modern centre with shops, cafes, banks etc. in its lower part. The village is situated in the region of the lakes, with Lago Maggiore being only 6 kilometres (4 mi) away, and features views of the Alps. Besozzo has a train station on the Luino–Milan railway, and a fast road linking it to the Italian highway system. As many surrounding villages, it has grown considerably and it still doing so, in part because of families moving from Milan to region of lakes and becoming commuters. Besozzo is close to the Ispra site of the European Union's Joint Research Centre.

Bregano is a frazione (hamlet) of the comune (municipality) of Bardello con Malgesso e Bregano, in the Province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy. It is located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) northwest of Milan and about 12 kilometres (7 mi) west of Varese. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 750 and an area of 2.3 square kilometres (0.89 sq mi). It had been a comune until 1 January 2023, when it merged with Bardello and Malgesso, and became part the newborn comune of Bardello con Malgesso e Bregano.

Isolino Partegora (known locally as Isulin) is an islet situated at the centre of the gulf of Angera on Lago Maggiore, the only island on the lake to fall within the Italian region Lombardy. Most of the shoreline consists of marshy cane thickets, although there is a sandy beach at the southern edge of the island. The islet is about 96 by 36 m in size, with an area of roughly 3500 square metres. Sass margunin, or margunée, is a submerged erratic block lying some tens of metres to the west of the island. Near the shore facing the island is the Oasis of Bruschera natural park. The park occupies an area of approximately 400 hectares (990 acres) and is one of the last remaining flooded forests in Lombardy.It is said that the saints Giulio and Giuliano stopped on the island. Tradition also identifies Partegora as the location of the martyrdom of Arialdo Alciato, the Milanese deacon and Patarine reformist who was assassinated in 1076 at the prompting of his archbishop, Guido da Velate. Ranco is a comune (municipality) on the shore of Lago Maggiore in the Province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) northwest of Milan and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of Varese. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,188 and an area of 6.3 square kilometres (2.4 sq mi).The village has a Guide Michelin acclaimed restaurant (Il sole di Ranco) and a Transport Museum. The municipality of Ranco contains the frazione (subdivision) Uponne. Ranco borders the following municipalities: Angera, Ispra, Lesa, Meina.
