Furness Academy is a secondary school in Barrow-in-Furness, England. It is the fourth academy to have been formed in the county of Cumbria after the closure of Alfred Barrow School, Parkview Community College of Technology and Thorncliffe School in 2009. Having utilised numerous buildings of the former Parkview and Thorncliffe Schools since 2009, a single £22 million building opened in the Parkside area of the town in September 2013.Since opening, Furness Academy has gained a somewhat tarnished reputation from having the highest exclusion rate in England (between 2009 and 2010), and a number of Ofsted reports that judged it as inadequate. The 2012 report led to the academy unsuccessfully challenging Ofsted in the High Court, and the 2013 report led to the school's being placed in 'special measures' and the suspension of the academy's principal.The school was successfully moved out of special measures in 2015. It also celebrated its best ever GCSE results in summer 2015. In 2019, Furness Academy successfully merged with the Inspired Learning Trust, to form Furness Education Trust. This multi academy Trust comprises Furness Academy, Parkside Academy, Victoria Academy, Yarlside Academy and South Cumbria School Direct.

Barrow Park is a 45-acre public park in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. It is located entirely within the Parkside ward, to which the park lends its name, bound by Abbey Road, Park Drive, Greengate Street and Park Avenue. Barrow Park was designed by Thomas Mawson in 1908 and was constructed in stages over the following two decades. Originally sited on the outskirts of Barrow, the park is now more or less central due to rapid growth of the town northwards during the early 20th century. It is designated by Historic England as Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The park contains a large boating lake, mini railway, skate park, various playgrounds and The Park Leisure Centre. The Barrow Parkrun takes place within the park every Saturday. Large sections of Barrow Park were redeveloped in 2005 to include a new pavilion, café, bandstand and display glasshouse. The park has since gained Green Flag status.

The Barrow Park Cenotaph is the main war memorial in the UK town of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, North West England. Located in Barrow's main public park, the structure is grade II listed. It is made from Portland limestone and is pillar like in appearance. It was built in 1919 in commemoration of the 616 Barrovian men who lost their lives in combat during World War I, however since then the names of 274 more locals have been added (268 of these being fatalities of World War II and 6 of the Korean War). The cenotaph currently only bears the names of Barrovians lost during these three wars whilst in military action (i.e. excluding civilians killed in the Barrow Blitz). Two inscriptions on the memorial read, to the glory of god and in honoured memory of the men of Barrow-in-Furness who fell in the great war and in honoured memory of all service personnel who gave their lives in then 1939–1945 war. Also Korea and Cyprus campaigns having made the supreme sacrifice that we might live lest we forget.

Barrow-in-Furness power station supplied electricity to the town of Barrow-in-Furness and the wider area of Lancashire, England from 1899 to about 1960. It was owned and operated by Barrow-in-Furness Corporation until the nationalisation of the UK electricity supply industry in 1948. The power station was redeveloped throughout its operational life. Barrow-in-Furness Corporation also operated Coniston hydro-electric power station.

Salthouse is an area of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Centred on Salthouse Road to the east of the town centre it was historically a ward in its own right however has since been subsumed into the wards of Risedale and Central Barrow. Salthouse Mills Industrial Estate is the most noted in Salthouse and is home to many long-term industrial tenants including Dixons Forge, Furness Vehicle Dismantlers, Furness Heat Treatment, and Furness Joinery. It was acquired by a London based property developer Hiltongrove in 2018 and has been undergoing the transformation into a modern, outperforming 17-acre industrial site.

Barrow-in-Furness is a railway station on the Cumbrian Coast Line and Furness Line, 85+1⁄2 miles (138 km) south-west of Carlisle and 34+3⁄4 miles (56 km) north-west of Lancaster, in the town of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel is a 4-star luxury hotel located on Abbey Road in Barrow-in-Furness, England. The building itself was built in 1871 and was granted grade II status in 1976. The hotel was built during a period of great economic growth in Barrow, the town was home to the largest steelworks in the world and one of the most important shipyards in the country. The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel soon became Barrow's most prestigious and attracted dignitaries and celebrities from across the world; some of the more notable examples being Charlie Chaplin, D. H. Lawrence and Cary Grant.In 2006 The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel was bought by C2 Investment who spent in excess of £2 million renovating the building inside and out. The hotel now includes 42 en-suite bedrooms, the 'Consort Bar and Grill' as well as a 300 capacity function room called the Regency Suite.

The Ritz (later known as the ABC, Astra and Apollo) was a cinema located at the junction of Abbey Road and Holker Street in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. The building was designed in a typical Art Deco-style by architect firm Drury & Gomersall and constructed in 1936 on a previously undeveloped site. Between 1961 and 1977 it was known simply as the ABC; after ABC Cinemas who took over ownership of the premises soon after completion. This changed to the Astra when the venue was bought by Hutchinson Leisure. In this period the cinema was completely refitted, adding two extra screens to the existing one. The largest of the screens seated 640 while the smaller two seated 260 each.In the last part of its functioning life the cinema was named the Apollo after again being purchased; by Apollo Leisure. 1999 saw the completion of Hollywood Park in Barrow and a 6-screen multiplex by Apollo Leisure. As a result, the redundant Apollo Cinema on Abbey Road closed down. Numerous proposals to conserve the building were presented, however a fire gutted the structure in the early 2000s scuppering any hope of redevelopment. Ultimately demolished in 2003, the site is now occupied by Emlyn Hughes House, a four-storey landmark office building.

Emlyn Hughes House is a landmark four storey office building located on the intersection of Abbey Road and Holker Street in Barrow-in-Furness, England. It is named after local footballer Emlyn Hughes who captained both Liverpool F.C. and the England national team, a statue of Hughes is also located outside of the building. Emlyn Hughes House replaces the Art Deco Ritz Cinema and was designed by Bowker Sadler architects and built by Capita Symonds for Barrow Borough Council. There was much speculation that the development would become a 'white elephant' because a year after completion in 2008 the whole building remained vacant. In April 2012, Glasgow-based Barrhead Travel opened their first office in England at Emlyn Hughes House. Barrhead Travel created offices and a call centre for their Cruise Direct business as well as a retail shop at ground floor level. In 2019 Furness Building Society relocated its headquarters to within the building.

Trinity Church was a Presbyterian church located on School Street in Barrow-in-Furness, England. It is not the same building as the joint Methodist and URC church in Parkside, Barrow-in-Furness known as the Trinity Church Centre.

Central Barrow refers both to the town centre of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England and to the electoral ward that roughly covers the eastern part of that town centre. In 2001 5,584 (ranking 5th out of 13) lived in the Central ward. The population density was 55.96 per hectare, which was well above the local average of 9.24, and England average, 3.77. The population of Central ward had reduced to 4,583 at the 2011 Census. Central Barrow is amongst the 3% most deprived areas in the country and households have an average weekly income around £100 lower than the region's average, however the area being the central business district of the town is also home to many of Barrow's retail outlets, as well as a large amount of offices, restaurants and governmental buildings. Part of the £200 million Waterfront Barrow-in-Furness project is being constructed in the southern part of Central Barrow (including the new Marina Village). In a bid to tackle issues related with Central Barrow such as deprivation, unemployment and poor housing quality/choice, Barrow Borough Council is currently preparing the 'Central Barrow Masterplan' which will set out guidelines for the redevelopment of Central Barrow. The plan will also put forward proposals for a bus station/transport interchange to replace the existing shelters outside of the town hall. It is not yet known when the plan will be published or what exactly it will include.

Oxford Chambers is a Grade II listed building located on Abbey Road in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Oxford Chambers was constructed in 1875 with the intention of it functioning as a commercial property, however the new town's first higher grades school opened within the building in 1880. The school relocated to a larger premises on Duke Street in 1889. A notable feature of the building is a sign reading 'Central Cigar Depot', it also housed a shop selling office supplies in the late 20th century. Despite this, it is most known for containing the extension of the adjacent Travellers Rest social club (which was in turn demolished in 2011). Oxford Chambers lies at the very northern perimeter of the Central Barrow conservation area close to The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel and the neighbouring Cooke's Building.
