Fig Island

Botany Bay Heritage Preserve & Wildlife Management Area is a state preserve on Edisto Island, South Carolina. Botany Bay Plantation was formed in the 1930s from the merger of the Colonial-era Sea Cloud Plantation and Bleak Hall Plantation. In 1977, it was bequeathed to the state as a wildlife preserve; it was opened to the public in 2008. The preserve includes a number of registered historic sites, including two listed in the National Register of Historic Places: a set of three surviving 1840s outbuildings from Bleak Hall Plantation, and the prehistoric Fig Island shell rings.

Rockville is a town in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States, that was founded in 1784. The population was 134 at the 2010 census. Rockville is part of the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metropolitan area.

Rockville Historic District is a national historic district located at Rockville, Charleston County, South Carolina. The district encompasses 19 contributing buildings in the town of Rockville. The dwellings reflect Rockville's historic role as a summer resort town. The houses are characterized by spacious porches, raised foundations, and large central hallways designed for summer comfort and relaxation. Located in the district are the Grace Episcopal Church and Wadmalaw Presbyterian Church.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Cassina Point (also known as the Hopkinson House and Cassina Point Plantation) was built in 1847 for Carolina Lafayette Seabrook and her husband, James Hopkinson. Carolina Seabrook was the daughter of wealthy Edisto Island planter William Seabrook. William Seabrook had hosted the General Lafayette in 1825 at his nearby home at the time of Carolina's birth. Seabrook gave Lafayette the honor of naming the newborn child, and the general selected Carolina (for the girl's birthplace) and Lafayette (after his own name). When Carolina Seabrook married James Hopkinson, they built Cassina Point on the land given to them by William Seabrook.The house is a large antebellum house and remnant of a sea island cotton plantation. James Hopkinson was a grandson of Francis Hopkinson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey and designer of the American flag. During the Civil War, the house was occupied by the Third New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry.Features of the 2+1⁄2-story, rectangular house include a side-gable roof, pediments, a Flemish-bond basement, brick chimneys with stuccoed necking, a roof porch supported by columns, marble mantles, and bull's-eye moulding. The interior of the house was preserved well over the years. The exterior is clad in weatherboard and flushboard. Cassina Point was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 28, 1986.

Seabrook Island, formerly known as Simmons Island, is a barrier island in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,714 at the 2010 census, up from 1,250 in 2000. Seabrook Island is part of the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metropolitan area.

John Seabrook Plantation Bridge, also known as Admiral George Palmer's Bridge, is a historic arch bridge located at Rockville, Charleston County, South Carolina. It was built about 1782, and is constructed of brick veneer enclosing a fill mixture of crushed oyster shells and rammed earth.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Charleston Tea Garden is located about twenty miles south of Charleston, South Carolina on Wadmalaw Island. Owned by the Bigelow Tea Company, it grows the tea sold under the brand name American Classic Tea and Charleston Tea Garden from the Camellia sinensis plant. Every year they used to host the First Flush Festival celebrating the beginning of the harvest season.

Wadmalaw Island is an island located in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. It is one of the Sea Islands, a chain of tidal and barrier islands on the Atlantic Ocean.

The 1997 World Cup of Golf took place 20–23 November at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, U.S. It was the 43rd World Cup. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event (32 teams) with each team consisting of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. Individuals also competed for the International Trophy. The prize money totaled $1,500,000 with $400,000 going to the winning pair and $100,000 to the top individual. The Irish team of Pádraig Harrington and Paul McGinley won by five strokes over the Scottish team of Colin Montgomerie and Raymond Russell. Colin Montgomerie took the International Trophy by two strokes over Alex Čejka.

The 2003 WGC-World Cup took place November 13–16 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, U.S. It was the 49th World Cup and the fourth as a World Golf Championship event. 24 countries competed and each country sent two players. The prize money totaled $4,000,000 with $1,400,000 going to the winning pair. The South African team of Rory Sabbatini and Trevor Immelman won. They won by four strokes stroke over the English team of Paul Casey and Justin Rose.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort is a resort at Kiawah Island, South Carolina which is located along a ten-mile (16 km) mix of island and beachfront property approximately thirty miles (50 km) southwest of Charleston. Opened in May 1974 it consistently ranks as one of the country’s top resorts.The resort is home to The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, a Forbes Five Star/AAA Five Diamond 255-room hotel and spa. The resort also manages nearly 500 private villas and homes and has more than a dozen restaurants. Best known for its golf courses, the resort also contains the Roy Barth Tennis Center, which features 22 tennis courts and is home to the Barth-Hawtin Tennis Academy.

The Battle of Simmon's Bluff was a minor and bloodless Union victory, fought June 21, 1862, in Meggett, South Carolina, during the American Civil War. Union forces had laid siege to Charleston, which was being resupplied from a nearby railroad. Union forces were eager to capture the city, so they sent the 55th Pennsylvania Infantry regiment to sever the rail line. The 55th Pennsylvania departed by sea shortly before the battle in search of a place to land closer to the railroad. On June 21, the 55th Pennsylvania came ashore at Wadmalaw Sound. Union forces discovered an encampment of the 16th South Carolina Infantry regiment, and quickly razed the encampment and engaged the Confederate forces. The Confederates scattered after the encampment was razed and were unable to launch an effective counterattack. There were no reports of injuries on either side. After the raid, the Union forces returned to their ships and abandoned their original objective, which was to interrupt the rail line to Charleston.
