Newfane (village), Vermont

The Historical Society of Windham County, and its constituent Windham County Museum, is a local historical society formed in 1927 to record and study the history of Windham County, Vermont. The organization was founded by Clara Chipman Newton, and subsequently incorporated in 1933. Subsequently, the organization built its current museum, starting in 1936 in Newfane, VT, and the museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The society also holds a biannual "Windham County History Fair" in Newfaine.In 2015, the society purchased the remaining Newfane station, one of the last buildings left over from the West River Railroad, to preserve the history of the railroad and to create a "West River Railroad Museum.

The Brookline-Newfane Bridge is a historic bridge spanning the West River between Brookline and Newfane, Vermont on Grassy Brook Road. It is a camelback through truss bridge, built in 1928 by the Berlin Construction Company in the wake of Vermont's devastating 1927 floods. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007 as Bridge 19, at which time it was one of seven surviving camelback bridges in the state. It last underwent a major rehabilitation in 2003-4.

Newfane is the shire town (county seat) of Windham County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,645 at the 2020 census. The town includes the villages of Newfane, Williamsville, and South Newfane.

The Windham-6 Representative District is a one-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one- or two-member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Windham-6 District includes all of the Windham County towns of Marlboro, Newfane, and Townshend. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The one member Windham-6 District had a population of 3,807 in that same census, 6.21% below the state average.

The Rock River is a 12.9-mile-long (20.8 km) tributary of the West River in southern Vermont in the United States. Via the West River, it is part of the watershed of the Connecticut River. The Rock River flows for its entire length in Windham County. It rises in the Green Mountain National Forest in the town of Dover and flows generally eastwardly into the town of Newfane, where it joins the West River.

The Wheelock House is a historic house at 1096 Vermont Route 30 in Townshend, Vermont. Built in stages in the mid-19th century, it exhibits an unusual combination of Greek Revival and southern Gothic Revival features that is not otherwise known in Vermont. It is also possible that parts of the house were built using slave labor, an extremely rare occurrence in the state. The property, which now houses an art gallery, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Williamsville is an unincorporated community in the town of Newfane in Windham County, Vermont, United States. Rock River passes through the community, which lies in the Green Mountains. Harmonyville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Townshend, Windham County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 92.The CDP is in north-central Windham County, in the southern part of the town of Townshend. It is bordered to the north by the village of Townshend. It sits in the valley of the West River, where it is joined from the northeast by Mill Brook. The West River is a southeast-flowing tributary of the Connecticut River. Vermont Route 30 passes through the community, leading southeast 16 miles (26 km) to Brattleboro and northwest through Townshend village 30 miles (48 km) to Manchester Center.

The Williamsville Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge, carrying Dover Road over the Rock River in Newfane, Vermont. Probably built in the 1870s, this Town lattice truss bridge is probably the oldest covered bridge in Windham County, and is the only one surviving in the town of Newfane. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Brookline Baptist Church is a historic former church building at 632 Grassy brook Road in Brookline, Vermont. It was built in 1836 for a congregation established in 1785, and served the congregation regularly until 1945. It is now used as a community function space. It is a locally distinctive example of vernacular Gothic Revival architecture, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

South Newfane is an unincorporated village in the town of Newfane, Windham County, Vermont, United States. The community is located along the Rock River 4.1 miles (6.6 km) southwest of the village of Newfane.

The South Newfane Bridge is a historic bridge, carrying Parish Hill Road across the Rock River in the village of South Newfane, Vermont. It is a Pratt through truss span, manufactured from rolled I-beams in 1939 to replace a bridge washed away in flooding. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
