Smithtown, New York

Smithtown is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the Town of Smithtown in Suffolk County, New York. The population was 25,629 at the 2020 census.The hamlet includes the former Village of The Landing, which was dissolved in 1939.

St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center is a 296-bed not-for-profit hospital located on Long Island in Smithtown, New York. The hospital opened in 1962 as St. John's Smithtown Hospital and its name was changed to its present in 1999. It is a major regional clinical campus for clinical clerkships and postgraduate medical training affiliated with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, one of the largest medical schools in the United States. Since 2000, the hospital has been operated by Catholic Health.

Prior to its current name, the park was called Nissequogue River State Park, a name now used for park lands on the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center grounds. New Mill Pond is a lake in Smithtown on the Northeast Branch River in Suffolk County, New York and is used for recreational purposes. Construction was completed in 1825. It has a normal surface area of 109 acres (0.44 km2). It is owned by Suffolk County Parks Department. New Mill Pond Dam is of earthen construction. Its height is 15 feet (4.6 m) with a length of 465 feet (142 m). Its capacity is 545 acre-feet (672,000 m3). Normal storage is 308 acre-feet (380,000 m3). It drains an area of 23.02 square miles (59.6 km2).

First Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church at 175 East Main Street in Smithtown, Suffolk County, New York. It was built in 1825 and the sanctuary is a rectangular, two story frame structure measuring 56 feet (17 m) by 34 feet (10 m). It is sheathed in wood shingles and covered by a gable roof. It features an engaged, square tower surmounted by a tiered, balustraded belfry. The tower has a Palladian window at its second level.The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The district has 22 contributing buildings, one contributing structure, and four contributing objects. It consists of 15 houses, a church, and a library built between about 1700 and 1965. Located within the district and listed separately on the register are the Halliock Inn and First Presbyterian Church.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
