Burke (village), New York

Burke is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. The population was 1,465 at the 2010 census. The town is in the northeastern part of the county, northeast of Malone, the county seat. The town contains a village also named Burke.

Debar Pond Lodge is a historic Great Camp and national historic district located within the Adirondack Forest Preserve at Duane in Franklin County, New York. The camp was designed by William G. Distin and built about 1940. The main lodge is a rambling two-story, Rustic style building of light-frame construction with an exterior veneer of half and full round logs. The interior features a centrally located, two-story Great Room. Also on the property are the contributing boathouse; a guide house/garage; a generator house; a barn; a shed; a greenhouse and potting shed; and stone posts which mark the associated stone-lined walkway to the lodge's principal entrance. The property was privately owned until 2004, and is now a part of the Adirondack Forest Preserve and under the management and control of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.: 3, 11 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Wilder Homestead, also known as the Boyhood Home of Almanzo Wilder, is a historic home and farmstead in Burke in Franklin County, New York. Wilder was a farmer who married author Laura Ingalls Wilder. The farmhouse was built in 1843, and is a two-story, Greek Revival style frame dwelling. The front facade features a small porch supported by square columns. It has a 1+1⁄2-story rear block with a small colonnaded portico. The property includes eight reconstructed outbuildings including a visitor's center (1989), corn crib (1989), three barns (1995, 1997, 1999), picnic pavilion (1998), rest rooms (1999), and pump house (2002). The Wilder family occupied the property until about 1875. The property is operated by the Almanzo & Laura Ingalls Wilder Association as an interactive educational center, museum and working farm as in the time of Almanzo Wilder's childhood as depicted in the Laura Ingalls Wilder book Farmer Boy.: 6–7 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Jamieson Line is a closed border crossing connecting Athelstan, Quebec to Burke, New York on the Canada–US border. Canada closed its port of entry on April 1, 2011, and tore down its border inspection station in 2012. The US Customs and Border Protection closed its port of entry on August 21, 2014.

The village is located in the town of Chateaugay, northeast of Malone. The village and town are named after a village near Lyon in France, which became the name of a land grant in Canada.

The Powerscourt Covered Bridge is a covered bridge that takes the First Concession Road across the Chateauguay River in Hinchinbrooke, Quebec. It is also known as the Percy Bridge. It was constructed in 1861, and employs the McCallum inflexible arched truss, developed by Daniel McCallum. It was the only McCallum truss bridge that was not a railway bridge, and since wooden truss railway bridges have all but been replaced with steel and concrete bridges, it is the last bridge of its kind in the world. In 2009 it was fully restored to its original 1861 plans.It is supported on three masonry piers and the two spans are structurally independent of each other.The Powerscourt Covered Bridge was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1984 because: it is the only known example of a McCallum inflexible arched truss bridge still in existence; it is one of the oldest covered bridges that exists in Canada.The bridge was also named an Historic Monument of Quebec in 1987. It was documented by the U.S. Historic American Engineering Record in 2003 with assistance from Public Works and Government Services Canada.

WICY (1490 AM) is an American radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Malone, New York, United States, the station is owned by the Martz Communications Group. WICY is known on-air as 102.7 103.5 WICY (after its FM translator frequencies). WICY exclusively operates as a local station for Malone and nearby communities. The station does well in Canadian border communities as well including Huntingdon, Trout River and Cornwall to the Northwest. WICY had a U.S. Federal Communications Commission construction permit to move to 1500 AM, with a city of license of Mooers, New York, with a proposed facility that would direct a 50,000-watt daytime signal towards Montreal; however, plans would be soon discarded, following complaints that the station's focus on Montreal would have meant substantially reduced coverage for information related to Malone or Franklin County. On September 20, 2021, WICY changed their format from 1980s’ hits to country, branded as "Wild Country".

Chateaugay Correctional Facility (ASACTC) was a medium-security prison and state alcohol and substance abuse Correctional Treatment Center in Franklin County, New York, United States. The prison is in the town of Chateaugay. The prison opened in 1990. What used to be known as an ASACTC correctional program has now turned into a facility for repeat parole violators as of the mid-2000s. No new prisoners are sent there anymore, just parole violators. Chateaugay closed on July 26, 2014.

Franklin Academy (commonly called FA) is a public high school located in the rural village of Malone, New York that enrolls students from Malone and surrounding communities in northern Franklin County such as Bangor, Belmont, Burke, Constable, Duane and Westville. With an enrollment of around 700 students in Grades 9–12, Franklin Academy is one of the larger high schools in the North Country region of Upstate New York and is accredited by the New York State Department of Education. The school traces its history to 1806 to the Harrison Academy, a private school that was established not long after the founding of Malone.

The Chateaugay–Herdman Border Crossing connects the towns of Hinchinbrooke, Quebec to Chateaugay, New York on the Canada–US border. The crossing can be reached by New York State Route 374 on the American side, while Chemin Herdman connects it to Quebec Route 202 on the Canadian side. This crossing is open 24 Hours per day, 365 days per year. Border inspections at the crossing were established in 1933 in response to a surge in alcohol smuggling from Canada into the United States. The U.S. border station and inspector's residence built at that time are still in use, and were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
