Chinatown, Boston

China Trade Gate is a paifang archway at the Beach Street entrance to the Chinatown neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It was designed by David Judelson and was originally donated to the city by the government of Taiwan in 1982.

South Bay Tower, also known as the Gateway Center, is a proposed skyscraper planned for Boston, Massachusetts. If completed, South Bay Tower would stand as the tallest building in Boston, Massachusetts, and New England, surpassing the 60-story John Hancock Tower by 7 stories and at least 10 feet (3.0 m). The South Bay tower would be built on 10 acres (40,000 m2) of land off Hudson Street just south of Downtown Boston, in an area of Chinatown reclaimed following the conclusion of the Big Dig.The site has come under renewed interest as of February 2016 as the State government considers selling it to developers with the potential for another massive proposal (1.5-2 million sq. ft.) that would involve the relocation of existing Department of Transportation facilities and the reconstruction of Veolia's energy plant.

The Quincy Grammar School is a historic former school building at 88-90 Tyler Street in the Chinatown neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It is a three-story red brick building, designed by Gridley James Fox Bryant. It was built in 1859, a reconstruction to original plans after fire leveled the first structure, built in 1848. Originally four stories in height, the top floor collapsed during the Great New England Hurricane of 1938. The building is historically significant as a major element in the education of Boston's immigrant Chinese community during the early 20th century. It is now owned by the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of Boston, which operates it as a community center.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

The Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy (also called the Friedman School) at Tufts University brings together biomedical, nutritional, clinical, social, and behavioral scientists to conduct research, educational, and community service programs in the field of human nutrition. Founded in 1981, the school's mission is to generate trusted science, educate future leaders, and produce real world impact in nutrition science and policy. The Friedman School is one of the eight schools that currently comprise Tufts University. Although originally split between the university's Medford/Somerville campus and the health sciences campus in Boston, almost all of the school's facilities and programs now share the health sciences campus with the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine. The Jaharis Family Center for Biomedical and Nutrition Research, which opened in 2002, houses most of the nutrition school. The school currently enrolls over 200 masters and doctoral students.

The Boston Chinatown massacre or Tyler Street Massacre was a gang-related shooting in which five men were killed execution-style in a Boston Chinatown gambling den in the early morning hours of January 12, 1991. A sixth victim was seriously injured but survived. While no motive has been officially established, initial police reports and later FBI investigations indicated that the Ping On gang and one of the victims were vying for power in Boston Chinatown. Two of the perpetrators, Nam The Tham and Siny Van Tran, were convicted of murder in 2005 after a decade-long international manhunt led to their 2001 extradition from China to the United States via Hong Kong. Both Tran and Tham are serving life sentences in prison while the third suspect, Phạm Tiến Hùng, has not yet been found as of 2021.

The Tufts University School of Medicine is the medical school of Tufts University, a private research university in Massachusetts. It was established in 1893 and is located on the university's health sciences campus in downtown Boston. The Times Higher Education (THE) and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) consistently rank Tufts among the world's best medical research institutions for clinical medicine. It has clinical affiliations with thousands of doctors and researchers in the United States and around the world, as well as at its affiliated hospitals in both Massachusetts (including Tufts Medical Center, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Lahey Hospital and Medical Center and Baystate Medical Center), and Maine (Maine Medical Center). According to Thomson Reuters' Science Watch, Tufts University School of Medicine's research impact rates sixth among U.S medical schools for its overall medical research and within the top 5 for specialized research areas such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, urology, cholera, public health & health care science, and pediatrics.

Kwong Kow Chinese School (KKCS; 中華廣教學校) is a supplementary school located in Chinatown, Boston. Founded in 1916 for immigrants in Chinatown, as Qwong Kow Chinese School, it has offered classes for not only members of the local Chinese American community, but immigrant children from Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Vietnam. In 2007, it moved into its permanent home at the Chinese Community Education Center, after many years of moving around Chinatown.

Denison House was a woman-run settlement house in Boston's old South Cove neighborhood. Founded in 1892 by the College Settlements Association, it provided a variety of social and educational services to neighborhood residents, most of whom were immigrants. Several notable women worked there, including Nobel Prize winner Emily Greene Balch, labor organizer Mary Kenney O'Sullivan, and pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart. The original site at 93 Tyler Street is a stop on the Boston Women's Heritage Trail.

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is one of the eight schools that comprise Tufts University. The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) is located on the university's health sciences campus in the Chinatown district of Boston, Massachusetts. The school was previously named the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences but on December 5, 2019, the university announced it was removing the Sackler name from the school, because of the Sacklers' role in the opioid epidemic through their ownership of Purdue Pharma.

The Pickwick Club collapse occurred on July 4, 1925. It killed 44 persons, making it the deadliest building collapse in Boston's history and the second deadliest accident in Boston (behind the Summer Street Bridge disaster) at that time.

The Beach-Knapp District encompasses a collection of six 19th-century buildings in the Chinatown neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It is centered at the corner of Beach and Knapp Streets, and includes three buildings on the south side of Beach Street, and three on the east side of Knapp. The buildings encapsulate the transition of the area from a predominantly residential area to a mixed residential-light industrial area in the 19th century. At 5 and 7 Knapp Street stand two Greek Revival residential structures, both built in the 1830s. The four story Renaissaince Revival building at 7-15 Beach Street was built c. 1885, and was historically used as a hotel. The other three buildings, 17-23 Beach, 25-29 Beach, and 9-23 Knapp, are all commercial buildings dating between 1885 and 1906; two of them were designed by Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
