Seelow Heights

Seelow (Mark) station is a railway station in the municipality of Seelow (Mark), located in the Märkisch-Oderland district in Brandenburg, Germany.

Seelow (German pronunciation: [ˈzeːloː] ) is a German town, seat of the Märkisch-Oderland, a district of Brandenburg. As of 2013 its population was of 5,464.

The Battle of the Oder–Neisse is the German name for the initial (operational) phase of one of the last two strategic offensives conducted by the Red Army in the Campaign in Central Europe (1 January – 9 May 1945) during World War II. Its initial breakthrough phase was fought over four days, from 16 April until 19 April 1945, within the larger context of the Battle of Berlin. The Soviet military planners divide the frontal and pincer phases of the operation, named Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation into: Stettin–Rostock Offensive Operation (16 April – 5 May 1945) by the 2nd Belorussian Front. Seelow–Berlin Offensive Operation (16–19 April 1945) by the 1st Belorussian Front. Cottbus–Potsdam Offensive Operation (16–27 April 1945) by the northern flank and Cavalry Mechanized Group of the 1st Ukrainian Front. Spremberg–Torgau Offensive Operation (16–25 April 1945) by the southern flank of the 1st Ukrainian Front.The battle included heavy fighting by the three Fronts of the Marshals of Soviet Union Konstantin Rokossovsky's 2nd Belorussian Front, Georgy Zhukov's 1st Belorussian Front and Ivan Konev's 1st Ukrainian Front, that assaulted the defending Wehrmacht Army Group Vistula commanded by Colonel-General (Generaloberst) Gotthard Heinrici and Field Marshall Ferdinand Schörner's Army Group Centre.

The Battle of the Seelow Heights (German: Schlacht um die Seelower Höhen) was part of the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation (16 April–2 May 1945). A pitched battle, it was one of the last assaults on large entrenched defensive positions of the Second World War. It was fought over three days, from 16–19 April 1945. Close to 1,000,000 Soviet soldiers of the 1st Belorussian Front (including 78,556 soldiers of the Communist Polish 1st Army), commanded by Marshal Georgy Zhukov, attacked the position known as the "Gates of Berlin". They were opposed by about 110,000 soldiers of the German 9th Army, commanded by General Theodor Busse, as part of the Army Group Vistula. This battle is often incorporated into the Battle of the Oder–Neisse. The Seelow Heights was where some of the most bitter fighting in the overall battle took place, but it was only one of several crossing points along the Oder and Neisse rivers where the Soviets attacked. The Battle of the Oder–Neisse was itself only the opening phase of the Battle of Berlin. The result was the encirclement of the German 9th Army and the Battle of Halbe.

Werbig station is a railway station in the east of the district Märkisch-Oderland of Brandenburg. In it, the Prussian Eastern Railway (Berlin - Kostrzyn nad Odrą) and the Eberswalde–Frankfurt (Oder) railway intersect. The plant is located in the city's Seelow district of Neulangsow; the eponymous district Werbig is located southwest of it. It is served by the lines RB 26 and RB 60.
