View Ridge, Seattle

Hawthorne Hills is a residential neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. It is officially split between the neighborhoods of Bryant and Windermere, but is generally recognized as a distinct neighborhood. The northern boundary is Northeast 65th Street. The southern and eastern boundary is Sand Point Way. The western boundary is 40th Avenue Northeast. Hawthorne Hills is bounded on the north by View Ridge, on the east by Windermere, on the south by Laurelhurst, and on the west by Bryant. There is a sign for the neighborhood along Sand Point Way. The neighborhood is named after Hawthorne Kingsbury Dent, a prominent Seattle insurance executive in the early 1900s who owned most of what is now named Hawthorne Hills. However, before Dent sold his land in 1928, the area around 40th Ave NE at NE 55th Street was marked on maps as Keith, named after settler Jacob Keith who owned land there from 1880 to 1887. Keith Station was a stop on the Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railroad, the site of which is now in the Burke-Gilman Playground Park just across the Burke-Gilman Trail from Metropolitan Market.According to a 2013 analysis by Seattle Met Magazine and Zillow of 101 Seattle neighborhoods, Hawthorne Hills has the second-highest median household income of any Seattle neighborhood ($111,671, behind only Laurelhurst), and ranks 6th of 98 in median home value. This analysis also indicated that Hawthorne Hills had the lowest crime rate of all 101 Seattle neighborhoods. Many streets in the neighborhood run against the standard north–south/west-east Seattle grid and are named after college towns (e.g., Stanford, Princeton, Purdue, etc.). University Circle Park, which has views to Downtown Seattle and the Space Needle, is at the center of these streets. The southern part of Hawthorne Hills includes a portion of the Burke-Gilman Trail. Hawthorne Hills is located about two miles east of the University District, and serves as a bedroom community for many University of Washington professors and staffers. The neighborhood is home to Seattle Fire Station 38, Metropolitan Market Sand Point, Bryant Neighborhood Playground, Burke-Gilman Playground Park, National Archives and Records, the Center for Spiritual Living, and Congregation Shaarei Tefilah-Lubavitch.

The National Archives at Seattle is a regional facility of the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration Pacific Region located in Seattle, Washington. The archives building is situated in the Windermere neighborhood of Northeast Seattle, near Magnuson Park, and holds 56,000 cubic feet (1,600 m3) of documents and artifacts. The archives opened in 1951 and moved to a permanent facility in 1963 at a renovated Navy warehouse. In 2020, the federal government approved plans to close the Seattle branch and sell the property, sparking backlash from local historians and public officials.

The NOAA Center for Tsunami Research (NCTR), located at the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) in Seattle, Washington, performs research in support of tsunami forecast models to increase the speed and accuracy of operational forecasts and warnings, tsunami inundation models to predict tsunami impacts on coastal communities, and tsunami measurement/detection technology for optimally designed networks of tsunami buoys.

Bryant is a residential neighborhood in northeast Seattle, Washington. According to the City of Seattle's neighborhood maps (as pictured), it is bounded by 35th Avenue NE and NE 45th Place on the west, beyond which is Ravenna; Sand Point Way NE and 45th Ave NE on the east, beyond which are Laurelhurst and Windermere; and NE 75th Street and NE 65th Street on the north, beyond which are View Ridge and Wedgwood.The neighborhood is sometimes known as Ravenna-Bryant, due to its proximity to Ravenna Park. The Burke–Gilman Trail runs along the southern and eastern margins of the neighborhood, paralleling Blakeley Street, Union Bay Place, 45th Street, and Sand Point Way. Bryant Park is located on NE 65th Street at 40th Avenue NE. In late 2012 the Ravenna-Bryant association incorporated a small neighborhood bounded by 35th Avenue NE on the west, 40th Avenue NE on the east, NE 75th Street on the north, and NE 65th Street on the south. The area had previously been a 'donut hole' between the neighborhood belonging to the Ravenna-Bryant association and those of Wedgwood and View Ridge.The North East branch of the Seattle Public Library, is located at 35th Avenue NE and NE 68th Street. Bryant is also the home to Assumption Catholic Church, University Unitarian Church, Ravenna Methodist, which houses a local preschool cooperative, and three synagogues, Congregation Beth Shalom (Conservative) at 35th Avenue NE and NE 68th Street, Emmanuel Congregation (Modern Orthodox) on NE 65th Street and 35th Avenue NE, and Congregation Shaarei Tefilah–Lubavitch (Orthodox) on NE 65th Street and 43rd Avenue NE. Bryant Elementary School, the Nathan Eckstein Middle School, and the North East Library all have status as Seattle city landmarks, as does Fire Station #38 at 5503 33rd Avenue N.E.

Villa Academy is a Catholic independent PreK-8th grade school located in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of Seattle, Washington on a tract of land near Lake Washington. The school has a preschool, Lower School and Middle School and was founded by America's first Catholic saint, Mother Cabrini who was canonized as St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in 1946. The campus includes orchards, gardens, three age appropriate playgrounds, and an athletic field. The building also has a dedicated art studio and music space, science laboratories, a performance theater, a full-size gymnasium, Lower School Computer lab, and historic chapel. In 2007-2008, Villa enrolled approximately 400 students, approximately half of whom are Catholic.

Thornton Creek is 18 miles (29 km) of urban creeks and tributaries from southeast Shoreline through northeast Seattle to Lake Washington. Its 12-square-mile (31 km2) watershed, the largest in Seattle, exhibits relatively dense biodiversity for an urban setting; it is home to frogs, newts, ducks, other birds, and an occasional beaver, in addition to more than 200,000 people. From west of Jackson Park Golf Course in Shoreline, from Sunny Walter-Pillings Pond in Licton Springs–North College Park, and north Northgate Thornton Creek flows through Maple Leaf and Lake City, including the Victory Heights, Meadowbrook, and Matthews Beach neighborhoods, and empties into the lake at Matthews Beach Park.

University Unitarian Church was designed by Seattle architect Paul Hayden Kirk in 1959. The church is located in the Wedgwood, Seattle neighborhood at the corner of 35th Avenue NE and 68th Street. The building is approximately a mile and half Northeast of the University of Washington Campus and sits across from the Northeast Branch of the Seattle Public Library. It was designed during the time when architect Kirk was working as a sole practitioner.The University Unitarian Church won Paul Hayden Kirk the American Institute of Architects Award (1960).

Windermere is a residential neighborhood in Seattle, Washington, named after Windermere in England's Lake District. It is bounded on the north by Magnuson Park, part of Sand Point; on the northwest by Sand Point Way N.E., beyond which is Hawthorne Hills; on the southwest by Ivanhoe Place N.E., beyond which is Laurelhurst; and on the southeast by Lake Washington. The area has been a part of Seattle since 1910. The neighborhood is home to the National Archives at Seattle, which is located on Sand Point Way (State Route 513).

The Burke–Gilman Trail is a rail trail in King County, Washington. The 27-mile (43 km) multi-use recreational trail is part of the King County Regional Trail System and occupies an abandoned Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway corridor. The Burke–Gilman segment is managed by the City of Seattle south of NE 145th Street. The trail begins at 11th Avenue NW in Ballard and follows along the Lake Washington Ship Canal and north along Lake Washington. At Blyth Park in Bothell the trail becomes the Sammamish River Trail and continues for 10 miles (16 km) to Marymoor Park, Redmond, on Lake Sammamish. With the completion of a connector trail through Marymoor Park in May, 2009 the trail network continues to the city of Issaquah via the East Lake Sammamish Trail. With the addition of the connector, the longest unbroken segment of the trail currently extends 42 miles. It runs 14.1 miles (22.7 km) between Ballard and Tracy Owen Station in Kenmore (its initial eastern end), or 17 miles (27 km) to Blyth Park. The Seattle Parks Department considers the Burke–Gilman segment of the trail to end in Kenmore; The total distance from Golden Gardens Park to Bothell, including the proposed "missing link" through Ballard, is 19.8 mi (31.9 km). King County considers that the segments divide in Bothell, Judge Burke and Daniel Gilman's original Road east ran past Snoqualmie Falls, before North Bend.

Wedgwood is a middle class residential neighborhood of northeast Seattle, Washington with a modest commercial strip. Wedgwood is located about two miles (3.2 km) north, and slightly east, of the University of Washington; it is about six miles (9.7 km) northeast of Downtown. The neighborhood is further typical of Seattle neighborhoods in having more than one name and having different, overlapping, but well-documented definitions of the neighborhood. The misspelling Wedgewood is not uncommon—it is used by at least five businesses and even appears in the unofficial City Clerk's Neighborhood Map Atlas—but the origin and spelling of the name are clear: the neighborhood was named after the English bone china-maker Wedgwood, the favorite of the wife of Albert ("Al") Balch (1903–1976), the developer who named the neighborhood. Balch was also the founder of adjoining View Ridge.

Matthews Beach Park is a 22-acre (0.9 km²) park in the Matthews Beach neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. It is a popular swimming beach in the summer, although it is also open during winter months.The park also hosts an annual "Polar Bear Plunge" sponsored by Seattle Parks and Recreation on New Year's Day.

Seattle Children's, formerly Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, formerly Children's Orthopedic Hospital, is a children's hospital in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The hospital specializes in the care of infants, children, teens, and young adults aged 0–21 in several specialties.
