Bishopscourt, East Melbourne

East Melbourne is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia, 2 km east of Melbourne's central business district. Its local government area is the City of Melbourne. East Melbourne is a small area of inner Melbourne, located between Richmond and the Melbourne Central Business District. Broadly, it is bounded by Spring Street, Victoria Parade, Punt Road/Hoddle Street and Brunton Avenue. One of Melbourne's earliest suburbs, East Melbourne has long been home to many significant government, health and religious institutions, including the Parliament of Victoria and offices of the Government of Victoria in the Parliamentary and Cathedral precincts, which are located on a gentle hill at the edge of the Melbourne's Hoddle Grid, known as Eastern Hill. The world-famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is located in Yarra Park, in the East Melbourne locality of Jolimont. East Melbourne has been affluent since its first establishment and contains some of the oldest Victorian homes and terrace houses and parks and gardens in Melbourne.

The Johnston Collection is a museum in East Melbourne, Australia. In recent years The Collection has invited creatives from the broader visual arts and design communities to re-interpret the collection through a regular program of re-installation and interventions of the permanent collection and has been the recipient of a number of industry awards. The museum is an "exhibition house" and displays a collection of English Georgian, Regency and Louis XV artworks that were a bequest from William Robert Johnston (1911-1986), a prominent antique dealer, real estate investor and collector, to the people of Victoria. The Collection is displayed in a regularly changed domestic setting, in his former residence, Fairhall, an historic East Melbourne townhouse.

Jolimont railway station is located on the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the inner eastern Melbourne suburb of East Melbourne, and it opened on 21 October 1901.The original timber station building was manufactured in England in 1899. In the late 1920s, it was sold and re-erected in Canberra, on the site of the present Jolimont Centre. After being damaged by fire, it was demolished in 1977.Jolimont is one of two stations that are closest to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the other being Richmond. During events at the MCG, extra exit gates are open to reduce crowding.Additional entrances and exits were provided in 1973. In 1985, it was renamed Jolimont MCG, and at the time it was noted that the station was unique in that no advertising was permitted on the station site, according to the construction finance contract.Extra shelter and seats were provided on both platforms in November 2015.

The Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct is a series of sports stadiums and venues, located in Melbourne, Victoria, in Australia. The precinct is situated around 3 km east of the Melbourne city centre, located in suburbs of Melbourne and Jolimont, near East Melbourne and Richmond. It is considered to be Australia's "premier sports precinct" and regularly hosts some of the biggest domestic and international sporting events, including the AFL Grand Final (Australian rules football), Australian Open (tennis) and Boxing Day Test (cricket). The venues have also previously hosted the 1956 Summer Olympics (for which the Precinct served as the Olympic Park) and 2006 Commonwealth Games.The precinct comprises three areas: Olympic Park, Melbourne Park and Yarra Park.

The Fitzroy Gardens are 26 hectares (64 acres) located on the southeastern edge of the Melbourne Central Business District in East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The gardens are bounded by Clarendon Street, Albert Street, Lansdowne Street, and Wellington Parade with the Treasury Gardens across Lansdowne street to the west. The gardens are one of the major Victorian era landscaped gardens in Australia and add to Melbourne's claim to being the garden city of Australia. Set within the gardens are an ornamental lake, a scarred tree, a visitor information centre and cafe, a conservatory, Cooks' Cottage (a house where the parents of James Cook lived, brought from England in the 1930s), tree-lined avenues, a model Tudor village, a band pavilion, a rotunda, the "Fairies' Tree", fountains and sculptures.

Jolimont is an unbounded neighbourhood of the suburb of East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Situated to the south east of the city's primary axis, Jolimont features parks, business precincts and a limited amount of residential accommodation. It was named after the Jolimont estate of Lieutenant-Governor Charles La Trobe, Victoria's first governor from 1839 to 1854.

Established in 1937, Epworth Freemasons (formerly the Freemasons Hospital), located at 166 Clarendon St in East Melbourne, was a practical expression of the work of Freemasonry in the Victorian community. It is now run by Epworth Healthcare. It is a non-government, not-for-profit, charitable institution providing a range of inpatient and ambulatory care services including: Women's and related health services including maternity, women's health and breast clinics, breast and gynaecological surgery and IVF. Surgical services including general surgery, urology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, ophthalmology and ENT. Comprehensive cancer care covering diagnosis, surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In October 2006 the hospital was purchased by ING Real Estate, which immediately leased the hospital to Epworth Healthcare. One immediate effect was the merging of two emergency departments, the previous Freemason's Emergency was closed while Epworth Richmond's still operates. The now Epworth Freemasons Hospital still operates as a hospital. The site is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Cooks' Cottage, previously known as Captain Cook's Cottage, is located in the Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne, Australia. The cottage was constructed in 1755 in the English village of Great Ayton, North Yorkshire, by the parents of Captain James Cook, James and Grace Cook, and was brought to Melbourne in 1934 by Sir Russell Grimwade. It is a point of conjecture among historians whether James Cook, the famous navigator, ever lived in the house, but almost certainly he visited his parents at the house.The inside of the cottage includes centuries-old antiques and is stylised in the way of the 18th century, as are the clothes of the volunteer guides.

Yarra Park (35.469 hectares) is part of the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct, the premier sporting precinct of Victoria, Australia. Located in Yarra Park is the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and numerous sporting fields and ovals, including the associated sporting complexes of Melbourne and Olympic Parks. The park and sporting facilities are located in the inner-suburb of East Melbourne. In the late 1850s, many of the earliest games of Australian rules football were played at Yarra Park, which was known at the time as the Richmond Paddock. Tree-lined paths run parallel to Punt Road and Swan Street, and criss-cross the park. Some of the lawns are used for parking for sporting events. Three footbridges allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross the railway lines to the different sporting venues and easy access to the Yarra River Trail. Around the MCG are sculptures of Australian sporting heroes including: Australian rules footballers Ron Barassi and Dick Reynolds; cricketers Donald Bradman and Keith Miller; and athlete Betty Cuthbert. Nearby is an old eucalyptus scar tree which shows a big scar caused by harvesting of bark for a canoe by the original inhabitants of the Yarra River Valley, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. The adjacent Punt Road Oval, home of the Richmond Football Club features a statue of Tiger legend Jack Dyer.

Cathedral College, East Melbourne was an all-boy, Catholic high school, run by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, and located on Victoria Parade, at the intersection of Eades Street, in East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It was on the former site of the Christian Brother's school, Parade College, which had been relocated to Bundoora in 1968. and St Kevin's College, which moved to Toorak in 1932. Cathedral College operated at the Victoria Parade location from 1968 and 1995, teaching classes from year 5 to year 10 & accommodated approximately 300 boys. It was home to the renowned St Patrick's Cathedral Choir from 1968 until the schools closure, when the choristers moved to St Kevin's College. The Catholic Theological College currently operates on a part of the former college site, with the remainder, the original St Kevin's College building on Albert St, having been converted to apartments.

Mannix Library is an academic theological library located in East Melbourne, Australia. The library specialises in the areas of theology, philosophy, biblical studies and associated disciplines, and supports teaching and research at Catholic Theological College and the wider University of Divinity. The student body includes candidates for ordination, lay men and women, undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree by research students, and members of the general public. The library uses OCLC's World Share Management System.
