Waverton, New South Wales

Waverton railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the North Shore line, serving the Sydney suburb of Waverton in New South Wales, Australia. It is served by Sydney Trains T1 North Shore line services. The station is located on Bay Road, Waverton, in the North Sydney Council local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was designed and built by New South Wales Department of Railways. It is also known as Waverton Railway Station group. The station was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

HMAS Waterhen is a Royal Australian Navy (RAN) base located in Waverton on Sydney's lower north shore, within Sydney Harbour, in New South Wales, Australia. Constructed on the site of a quarry used to expand Garden Island in the 1930s, the location was used during World War II as a boom net maintenance and storage area. In 1962, the area was commissioned as a base of the RAN, and became home to the RAN's mine warfare forces. Waterhen was the first small-ship base established by the RAN, and from 1969 to 1979 was also responsible for the RAN's patrol boat forces.

MV Cape Don is a museum and training ship and former research vessel and lighthouse tender in Waverton, New South Wales, Australia. She is the only remaining Australian lighthouse supply ship and is listed on the Australian Register of Historic Vessels. Built and launched by the State Dockyard at Newcastle, New South Wales in 1962 for the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service, she serviced the lighthouses, lightships and buoys of the Australian coast from 1963 to 1990. She was also used as a research vessel, and was involved in numerous high-profile scientific expeditions including the salvage of two of HMS Investigator's anchors. Cape Don is being restored by the MV Cape Don Society, which is overseen by the Sea Heritage Foundation. She is berthed at the former coal loading wharf in Balls Head Bay, Waverton, New South Wales.

Graythwaite is a heritage-listed former private home and former hospital and now school administration building located at 20 Edward Street, North Sydney, North Sydney Council, New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by Goold and Hilling and Edmund Blacket and built from 1858 to 1885 by Aaron Loveridge. It is also known as Graythwaite Nursing Home and Shore School. The property is owned by the Sydney Church of England Grammar School. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 1 November 2002.

Kailoa is a heritage-listed house at 44 Union Street, North Sydney, North Sydney Council, New South Wales, Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

The Cammeraygal, variously spelled as Cam-mer-ray-gal, Gamaraigal, Kameraigal, Cameragal and several other variations, are one clan of the 29 Darug tribes who are united by a common language, strong ties of kinship and survived as skilled hunter–fisher–gatherers in family groups or clans that inhabited the Lower North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

North Sydney Council is a local government area on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, established on 29 July 1890 through the amalgamation of three boroughs. The area is bounded by Willoughby to the north and north-west, Northern Beaches to the north-east, Mosman to the east, Lane Cove to the west and Sydney Harbour to the south. It covers an area of approximately 10.9 square kilometres (4.2 sq mi) and as at the 2016 census had an estimated population of 67,658. The administrative seat of North Sydney Council is located in the suburb of North Sydney, approximately 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north of the Sydney central business district. MV Baragoola was a ferry formerly operated by the Port Jackson & Manly Steamship Company and its successors on the Manly service. The sixth and final of the Binngarra-type Manly ferries, the vessel entered service in 1922. Built with a triple-expansion steam engine, she was converted to diesel-electric propulsion in 1961. Since its decommissioning as a ferry in 1983, the vessel had a number of owners who attempted to find a new role and restore it. In 2003, it was laid up at Balls Head Bay on the north side of Sydney Harbour as attempts to restore the vessel continued. However, in January 2022, she sank at her mooring alongside the Balls Head Coal Loader, with the decision then made that the vessel would be scrapped. Baragoola is an Australian Aboriginal word for "flood tide".

The Mary Mackillop Memorial Chapel was built in 1913 in honor of Australia’s first saint – Mary Mackillop [1]. The chapel is located in Mount Street in North Sydney, considered a place for spiritual retreat in the middle of the North Sydney business district. The chapel was previously used exclusively by the Sisters of St. Joseph. However, when Mary Mackillop’s remains were moved to the chapel in 1994, where the vestry was originally located. Since then, the chapel has become a place of pilgrimage [2] for thousands of people coming to pray and reflect at her tomb. The Chapel is an imposing building. The facade is set by stone traceried windows [3]. Above of which, are tall commanding spires of carved stone. The Chapel’s altar, lectern and chair are all made from white marble. Images of saints displayed in stained glass and statues adorn the Chapel. Apart from the Chapel, a museum has also been incorporated in the compound. This facility attracts busses of crowds and or tourists, both local and foreign, wanting to know more about the life of Australia’s first saint. The museum is equipped with state of the art technological gadgets & facilities to help provide visitors with a truly transcendental experience to relive Mary Mackillops days. Her life story is weaved by the different sections of the museum. It is also divided in several buildings, each depicting a phase of Mary’s life. Regardless of religious persuasion, it is a pleasant and interesting setting to spend some time for reflection and tranquility, purely from a historical point of view. Despite the abundance of activities other than spiritual retreat, Mary Mackillop Place is in fact a soothing resort which refreshes anyone with its divine calmness.

The Balls Head Reserve is a forested headland nature reserve situated on Balls Head in Sydney. The headland is in Port Jackson, 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, between Berrys Bay to the east and Balls Head Bay to the west. It is named after Lieutenant Henry Lidgbird Ball, a Royal Naval officer who commanded HMS Supply on the First Fleet. The park is accessed via Balls Head Drive, Waverton, New South Wales, Australia.
