Penedès DOP

Penedès (Catalan pronunciation: [pənəˈðɛs]) is a natural and historical region of Catalonia. It is located in the south of the Principality of Catalonia between the pre-coastal mountain range (Serralada Pre-litoral) and the Mediterranean Sea. The comarcal division of the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1936 and 1987, divided Penedès into three administrative comarques: Alt Penedès, Baix Penedès and Garraf, and their capitals are Vilafranca del Penedès, el Vendrell and Vilanova i la Geltrú. From the historical point of view, Penedès was since the start of the ninth century a border region inside the county of Barcelona, which had its center in the former military town Olèrdola, fortified again because of the Christian advance in 929. Olèrdola lost its defensive significance and the capital in the second half of the twelfth century and then Vilafranca del Penedès became the capital. During the thirteenth century formed the Vegueria of Vilafranca including all Penedès and most of Anoia as the sots-vegueria of Igualada. The provincial division of 1833 divided the region between the provinces of Barcelona, which includes Alt Penedès and Garraf, and the province of Tarragona, which includes Baix Penedès.

Olèrdola is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Penedès in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the northern side of the Garraf massif, and the highest point of the municipality is the Puig de l'Àliga at 468 m. Olèrdola castle controlled the area of the Penedès Depression in the Early Middle Ages, reaching the height of its significance when its castle dominated the region under the control of the rebellious Mir Geribert, "Prince of Olèrdola". Its importance declined from the twelfth century and its administrative role was taken by Vilafranca del Penedès. The territory has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, and Iberic and Roman remains are juxtaposed with the ruins of the castle. The unusual, circular, Roman chapel of the Sant Sepulcre is near La Plana Rodona.

Sant Pere de Ribes is a town in the center of the Garraf comarca, in Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain. The remains of a 12th-century castle once ruled by the troubadour Guillem de Ribes are in the town.

Lycée Français Bel-Air Garraf (Spanish: Liceo Francés Bel-Air Garraf), formerly École Française Bel Air (Spanish: Escuela Francesa Bel Air) is a French international school in Sant Pere de Ribes, Province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It serves petite section through terminale (final year of lycée, senior high school/sixth form). The classes at the lycée (upper secondary level) are taught with the National Centre for Distance Education (CNED) distance education programme. Garraf is a Catalan comarca. It was created in 1992. The current campus opened in 1996. The current cycle 3 (years 3–5) primary school building opened in 2004, and an addition for cycle 2 (years 1–2) of primary school was installed in 2008.

Daltmar is a population center that belongs to the municipality of Olèrdola, region of Alt Penedès of the province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is located a short distance from Vilafranca del Penedes, and is the third-largest city core by population, 626 in 2018

The Autòdrom de Sitges-Terramar is a former racing circuit located in the small village of Rocamar, in Sant Pere de Ribes near Sitges in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was built in 1923 within 300 days, and was one of the first racetracks in the world. At the time, Europe had only two racetracks, Brooklands and Monza, and the United States only had Indianapolis. Although minor races were sporadically held on the circuit through the 1950s, it was largely abandoned after the inaugural season of 1923. Now, it has seen use only as the backdrop to a selection of car advertisements, an outing of The Grand Tour, and as a chicken farm.

El Castillo de Kafka is an iconic complex of 90 apartments in Sant Pere de Ribes, near Sitges in Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura and completed in 1968. It has been ranked among "Ricardo Bofill's 10 Most Iconic Works".It was inspired by the Utopian practice of Archigram and its "plug-in city" concept of modular megastructures. Its name is an explicit reference to The Castle, the 1926 novel by Franz Kafka.

The Can Papiol Romanticism Museum (Catalan: Museu Romàntic Can Papiol) is a museum located in the historic centre of Vilanova i la Geltrú in Catalonia, Spain. It is a manor house dating from the end of the 18th century and is characteristic both for the furniture and decorative elements preserved from the time. Its aim is to evoke 19th-century society by analysing the everyday life of a well-to-do family of the time. The museum is part of the Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network.

Garraf (Catalan pronunciation: [ɡəˈraf]), is a comarca (county) in the Penedès region in Catalonia, Spain. It is named after the Garraf Massif. The capital is the city of Vilanova i la Geltrú. The GR 92 long-distance footpath, which roughly follows the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, has a staging point at Garraf. Stage 21 links northwards to Bruguers, a distance of 15.6 kilometres (9.7 mi), whilst stage 22 links southwards to Vilanova i la Geltrú, a distance of 22.0 kilometres (13.7 mi).

The Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer (Víctor Balaguer Museum & Library) is located in Vilanova i la Geltrú and was founded in 1884 by Víctor Balaguer so as to thank the city for its support during his politician career. Since 2000 the museum is part of the National Art Museum of Catalonia and the library is part of the National Library of Catalonia.

The Estrella Damm Ladies Open is a professional golf tournament on the Ladies European Tour, first played in 2017.The tournament is played in Spain at Club de Golf Terramar, southwest of Barcelona. It was the first Ladies European Tour event held in Europe in the 2017 season. The primary sponsor is S.A. Damm, brewers of Estrella Damm beer.

The Catalan Wine Cultures Museum or VINSEUM is a museum situated in an antique house-palace of the monarchs of the Crown of Aragon, in Vilafranca del Penedès (Alt Penedès) Barcelona, Spain. It was formerly known as the Vilafranca del Penedès Museum.
