Saxmundham railway station

Saxmundham ( saks-MUN-dəm) is a market town in Suffolk, England, set in the valley of the River Fromus about 18 miles (29 km) north-east of Ipswich and 5 miles (8 km) west of the coast at Sizewell. The town is bypassed by the main A12 road between London and Lowestoft. The town is served by Saxmundham railway station on the East Suffolk Line between Ipswich and Lowestoft.

Blyth Rural District was a rural district in East Suffolk, England, between 1934 and 1974. The rural district was formed by the merger of parts of Blything Rural District and Plomesgate Rural District with a small parts of Hoxne Rural District, all of which were being abolished. It covered a coastal area north of Aldeburgh and inland parishes around Saxmundham, although both those towns were excluded from the district. Shortly after the district's creation the council built itself an office on Rendham Road in Saxmundham, holding its first meeting in the new building (later known as Blyth House) in April 1935.The district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, and became part of Suffolk Coastal district.

SET Saxmundham School (formerly Saxmundham Free School) is a free school in Saxmundham, Suffolk, East Anglia, with approximately 309 pupils. It was rated "good" by Ofsted in May 2014. In March 2018 Ofsted carried out a short inspection of the school where it maintained its "good" rating. It opened in 2012 with 105 pupils out of a total of 312 places available. The school now has 600 places available. In June 2023 the Seckford Education Trust announced it would be closing the school in August 2024.

Carlton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Kelsale cum Carlton, in the East Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk, England. It is located one mile north of Saxmundham. The village is bordered by Kelsale in the north, the B1121 in the east and the A12 to the west. In 1881 the civil parish had a population of 94. On 25 March 1885 the parish was abolished and merged with Kelsale. Carlton is the location for all the larger businesses based at the Carlton Park Industrial Estate. Adjoining this is the Carlton Park Sports ground which is owned by Saxmundham Sports Club, also the location of the Carlton Park Caravan Site. Also on the Carlton Park is Carlton Hall former home of Richard Garrett III who is buried there in the churchyard. The Church of St Peter has a brick tower set amongst arable land in the grounds of Carlton Park. Carlton also has a Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary (CEVCP) School. Prominent on the skyline is Skoulding's Mill, a tower windmill which has been converted to residential accommodation.

Kelsale cum Carlton is a civil parish in the English county of Suffolk. Situated to the north of Saxmundham, Kelsale cum Carlton is one of the largest parishes in Suffolk by area and includes, in addition to Kelsale and Carlton, villages and hamlets such as Dorley's Corner, Curlew Green, East Green and North Green within its boundaries. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 990. It forms an exclave of the Hoxne Hundred. The parish was formed in 1885.

Sternfield is a village in Suffolk, England. It is located 1 mile (2 km) south of Saxmundham, its post town. The village is very small and irregularly built, and is wholly agricultural. The village contains a church dedicated to Mary Magdalene. It is Grade II* listed for its surviving medieval work, notably the south porch and tower.During the 1960s and 1970s Lt. Col. Sir Eric and Lady Penn lived at Sternfield House, a large house next to the church with extensive gardens and as Sir Eric was the comptroller of the Lord Chamberlain's Office and a trusted presence in Buckingham Palace, senior members of the royal family came and stayed at Sternfield House on a number of occasions. Princess Margaret came most often, but the Queen also came at least once and attended St Mary Magdalene's, as did the Queen Mother. Another notable property is Sternfield Hall, with its classic Georgian soft red brick facade and late 16th-century wing which is probably the site of a medieval manor house where on 27 April 1385, a licence to crenellate at Sternefeld (Sternfield) was granted to Sir Michael de la Pole by Richard II in year eight of his reign.

Kelsale is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Kelsale cum Carlton, in the East Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk, England. It is located approximately 1 mile north of Saxmundham town centre at the junction of the B1121 and the A12. In 1881 the civil parish had a population of 973.

Benhall Green is a village in Suffolk, England. Benhall Green has a ford over the Fromus - which can be treacherous during heavy rains - and several protected wildlife sites, including the Wadd. The village also has a St Mary's Benhall Primary school, rated excellent by Ofsted [1], a new wooden play area, swings and slides, a phone box, and a noticeboard. There is a small farm shop on the A12 just outside the village, the Railway Farm Shop. In the village is a cottage built in 1698 with distinctive pargeting.

The district was formed in 2019 as a merger of the two previous districts of Suffolk Coastal and Waveney. In 2021 it had a population of 246,058. It is the most populous district in the country not to be a unitary authority. The district is on the coast, facing the North Sea. Much of the coast and adjoining areas lies within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Some northern parts of the district lie within The Broads. The neighbouring districts are Babergh, Ipswich, Mid Suffolk, South Norfolk and Great Yarmouth.

Benhall is a village and civil parish in the East Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. Located to the south of Saxmundham, in 2007 its population was estimated to be 560, reducing to 521 at the 2011 Census.
