Cross Houses

Berrington railway station was a railway station on the Severn Valley line serving the village of Berrington, Shropshire. It opened in 1862 with a single platform and a siding. By 1894 it had acquired an additional platform along with a signal box and the sidings had been expanded. Despite the name it was actually closer to the neighbouring village of Cross Houses. Although thought by some people to have been closed as part of the Beeching axe in 1963 its planned closure pre-dated his report. The station and its buildings now house a private dwelling.

Cronkhill, Atcham, Shropshire, designed by John Nash, is "the earliest Italianate villa in England".Drawing on influences from the Italian Campagna and the Picturesque, including the art of Claude Lorrain, it began an architectural style that was hugely influential in England in the first half of the nineteenth century. Major examples include Trentham Park and Osborne House. Nash's "most original building", it is Grade I listed.

Its benefice is united with those of twelve other parishes to form the Wenlock Team of Parishes. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.

St Eata's Church is in the village of Atcham, Shropshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Shrewsbury, the archdeaconry of Salop, and the diocese of Lichfield. Its benefice is united with that of St Giles-with-Sutton, Shrewsbury. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. Its dedication to Eata of Hexham is unique.

The Mytton and Mermaid Hotel in the parish of Atcham, near Shrewsbury, England, is a Grade II listed building. It gained its protected status in 1952.Originally built as a house, and later used as an inn and hotel, the structure of the Mytton and Mermaid dates from the mid- to late-18th century and was probably altered in the late 19th century. It was known as The Talbot Arms until the early 19th century. After a period under the name of The Berwick Arms, it became a private home called Atcham House. Clough Williams-Ellis bought it in the early 1930s, converting it back into a hotel and giving it the name by which it is now known.

Atcham is a village, ecclesiastical parish and civil parish in Shropshire, England. It lies on the B4380 (once the A5), 5 miles south-east of Shrewsbury. The River Severn flows round the village. To the south is the village of Cross Houses and to the north-west the hamlet of Emstrey.

Berrington is a small village and civil parish in Shropshire, England. According to the 2001 census the village had a population of 30, though the parish, which also includes the larger village of Cross Houses and other settlements such as Betton Strange and Cantlop, had a population of 805 in total.The village is about five miles SE of Shrewsbury. The local newsletter, The Village Pump, is distributed bi-monthly. There is a phone box and a village hall. A notable feature in the parish, but not the village itself, is Cantlop Bridge. The village primary school closed in 1994 and has since been converted into a private residence. A damaged wooden effigy in the parish church (All Saints) is known locally as 'Old Scriven'. It is said that he once fought a lion, hence his damaged face. Berrington Manor is a Grade II* listed 17th century timber-framed house, located opposite All Saints church.

The River Tern (also historically known as the Tearne) is a river in Shropshire, England. It rises north-east of Market Drayton in the north of the county. The source of the Tern is considered to be the lake in the grounds of Maer Hall, Staffordshire. From here it flows for about 30 miles (48 km), being fed by the River Meese and the River Roden, until it joins the River Severn near Attingham Park, Atcham. Extensive peat bog formerly existed, extending from Crudgington on the Tern as far as Newport. At Longdon-on-Tern, the Tern is spanned by the Longdon-on-Tern Aqueduct, the world's first large-scale cast iron navigable aqueduct (Benjamin Outram's 13 m cast iron Holmes Aqueduct pre-dated it by a month), designed by Thomas Telford to carry the Shrewsbury Canal. Although no longer connected to the canal network, The 62-yard (57 m) long structure still stands today, but is marooned in the middle of a field.

Attingham Park is an English country house and estate in Shropshire. Located near the village of Atcham, on the B4380 Shrewsbury to Wellington road. It is owned by the National Trust and is a Grade I listed building. Attingham Park was built in 1785 for Noel Hill, 1st Baron Berwick, replacing a house on the site called Tern Hall. With money he inherited, along with his title, he commissioned the architect George Steuart to design a new and grander house to be built around the original hall. The new country house encapsulated the old property entirely, and once completed it was given the new name 'Attingham Hall'. The Estate comprises roughly 4,000 acres (1,600 ha), and the extensive 640 acres (260 ha) of parkland and gardens of Attingham have a Grade II* Listed status. Over 560,000 people visited in 2022/23, placing it as the most popular National Trust property.Across the parkland there are five Grade II* listed buildings, including the stable block, the Tern Lodge toll house which can be seen on the B4380, and two bridges that span the River Tern. There are also 12 Grade II listed structures including the retaining walls of the estate, the bee house, the ice house, the walled garden, the ha-ha, which can be seen in the front of the mansion, and the Home Farm.

Cound is a village and civil parish on the west bank of the River Severn in the English county of Shropshire, about 7 miles (11 kilometres) south east of the county town Shrewsbury. Once a busy and industrious river port Cound has now reverted to a quiet rural community and dormitory village, for commuters to the commercial centres of Shrewsbury and Telford.

The Tomb of John De Pitchford is a 13th-century carved effigy and tomb chest of John De Pitchford (d. 1285), located at St Michael and All Angels’ Church, Pitchford, Shropshire, England.Although little record survives of John De Pitchford's life, he is assumed to have been either a knight or sheriff. His monument is positioned in the chancel of the church, and is made from solid oak, making it one of only three extant 13th-century English tombs retaining their original wooden elements.

Pitchford Hall is a Grade I listed Tudor country house in the village of Pitchford, Shropshire, 6 miles south east of Shrewsbury. It was built c.1560 on the site of a medieval building and has been modified several times since, particularly in the 1870s and 1880s when it was substantially restored, remodelled and extended. It is a timber-framed two-storey building with rendered red sandstone panels, a stone roof and brick chimneys. The floor plan is E-shaped round a courtyard to the south with a Victorian service wing to the west. There is also an orangery and walled garden on the grounds. A deer park established in 1638 was disparked in 1790. 100 metres north of the hall is a bitumen well, near a ford across the Row Brook, from which the village gets its name. The bitumen or pitch was once used for waterproofing the timbers of the house. A 17th-century tree house in a large lime tree is one of the oldest in the world. A stretch of the Roman Watling Street runs through the estate. The hall and its contents were sold at auction in 1992. The hall was repurchased in 2016 by the Colthurst family, who had retained the estate, and is under restoration after falling derelict.
