River Tern

Attingham Park is an English country house and estate in Shropshire. Located near the village of Atcham, on the B4380 Shrewsbury to Wellington road. It is owned by the National Trust and is a Grade I listed building. Attingham Park was built in 1785 for Noel Hill, 1st Baron Berwick, replacing a house on the site called Tern Hall. With money he inherited, along with his title, he commissioned the architect George Steuart to design a new and grander house to be built around the original hall. The new country house encapsulated the old property entirely, and once completed it was given the new name 'Attingham Hall'. The Estate comprises roughly 4,000 acres (1,600 ha), and the extensive 640 acres (260 ha) of parkland and gardens of Attingham have a Grade II* Listed status. Over 560,000 people visited in 2022/23, placing it as the most popular National Trust property.Across the parkland there are five Grade II* listed buildings, including the stable block, the Tern Lodge toll house which can be seen on the B4380, and two bridges that span the River Tern. There are also 12 Grade II listed structures including the retaining walls of the estate, the bee house, the ice house, the walled garden, the ha-ha, which can be seen in the front of the mansion, and the Home Farm.

Wroxeter ( ROK-sit-ər) is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Wroxeter and Uppington, in the Shropshire district, in the ceremonial county of Shropshire, England. It is beside the River Severn, 5 miles (8.0 km) south-east of Shrewsbury. In 1961 the parish had a population of 657.Viroconium Cornoviorum, the fourth largest city in Roman Britain, was sited here, and is gradually being excavated.

St Andrew's Church is a redundant Church of England parish church in the village of Wroxeter, Shropshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Both the village of Wroxeter and the church are in the southwest corner of the former Roman town of Viroconium.

The Mytton and Mermaid Hotel in the parish of Atcham, near Shrewsbury, England, is a Grade II listed building. It gained its protected status in 1952.Originally built as a house, and later used as an inn and hotel, the structure of the Mytton and Mermaid dates from the mid- to late-18th century and was probably altered in the late 19th century. It was known as The Talbot Arms until the early 19th century. After a period under the name of The Berwick Arms, it became a private home called Atcham House. Clough Williams-Ellis bought it in the early 1930s, converting it back into a hotel and giving it the name by which it is now known.

Atcham is a village, ecclesiastical parish and civil parish in Shropshire, England. It lies on the B4380 (once the A5), 5 miles south-east of Shrewsbury. The River Severn flows round the village. To the south is the village of Cross Houses and to the north-west the hamlet of Emstrey.

St Eata's Church is in the village of Atcham, Shropshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Shrewsbury, the archdeaconry of Salop, and the diocese of Lichfield. Its benefice is united with that of St Giles-with-Sutton, Shrewsbury. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. Its dedication to Eata of Hexham is unique.

Viroconium or Uriconium, formally Viroconium Cornoviorum, was a Roman city, one corner of which is now occupied by Wroxeter, a small village in Shropshire, England, about 5 miles (8 km) east-south-east of Shrewsbury. At its peak, Viroconium is estimated to have been the 4th-largest Roman settlement in Britain, a civitas with a population of more than 15,000. The settlement probably lasted until the end of the 7th century or the beginning of the 8th. Extensive remains can still be seen.

Wroxeter and Uppington is a civil parish in the English county of Shropshire. The population of the Civil Parish at the 2011 census was 382. It lies mainly between the River Severn and the old A5 (now the B5061) and stretches from Atcham to The Wrekin. The main villages are Wroxeter and Uppington. Also forming part of the parish are the hamlets of Rushton, Charlton Hill, Donnington, Eyton and Dryton, as well as Atcham Business Park/Industrial Estate.The parish has an active cricket club, the Wroxeter & Uppington CC. Formed in 1906, it was originally based in Donnington, and now has a ground in Uppington.

Cross Houses is a village in Shropshire, England, the largest village in the Parish of Berrington. It is located on the A458 road and is 4 miles south east of Shrewsbury. Cross Houses is also the name of a hamlet SW of Bridgnorth.

Upton Magna railway station was a station in Upton Magna, Shropshire, England. The station was opened on 1 June 1849 by the Shrewsbury and Wellington Joint Railway, which was run jointly by the London and North Western Railway and the Great Western Railway (who had leased/acquired the companies that had previously built the lines from Stafford to Wellington and Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton respectively). Initially the station had no platforms at track level, nor any buildings on the westbound side - these were subsequently added later. Goods sidings, a loop and a signal box were provided on the southbound side of the line by 1895. Passenger trains from the station ran to Shrewsbury westbound and to either Wolverhampton Low Level or Birmingham Snow Hill (GWR) eastbound prior to nationalisation in 1948. The station closed to goods traffic on 4 May 1964 and completely a few months later on 7 September. The buildings and platforms were swiftly demolished and the sidings removed, though the goods loop and signal box survived until May 1967. The station house still stands some distance from the lineside in 2016 (now in private residential use), but all other traces of the station have disappeared.

Cronkhill, Atcham, Shropshire, designed by John Nash, is "the earliest Italianate villa in England".Drawing on influences from the Italian Campagna and the Picturesque, including the art of Claude Lorrain, it began an architectural style that was hugely influential in England in the first half of the nineteenth century. Major examples include Trentham Park and Osborne House. Nash's "most original building", it is Grade I listed.

Royal Air Force Atcham, or more simply RAF Atcham, is a former Royal Air Force station located 5 miles (8 km) east of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, on the north eastern boundary of Attingham Park. Initially built for RAF Fighter Command, during the Second World War its primary use was by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Eighth Air Force. It was mainly the home of the 495th Fighter Training Group, where pilots were trained to fly Republic P-47 Thunderbolts although a few also were trained to fly twin-engined Lockheed P-38 Lightnings for both Eighth and Ninth Air Force units. Atcham continued to see use as a training base until it was returned to the RAF in March 1945.
