Elk Park is a town in Avery County, North Carolina, United States. The town was so named because of the number of elk killed there. The population was 452 at the 2010 census.

Cranberry is an unincorporated community in Avery County, North Carolina, United States. The community was founded in 1850 and was named after Cranberry Creek, which flows in the area. The community is located one mile south from the town of Elk Park, along US 19E.

Elk Park School is a historic school building located at Elk Park, Avery County, North Carolina. It was built between 1935 and 1938 by the Works Progress Administration. It is a one-story, E-shaped Rustic Revival-style stone building. It measures 16 bays wide and has a large gymnasium ell. A one-story, concrete block cafeteria addition was built in 1951. Scenes from the 1974 movie "Where The Lilies Bloom" were filmed in Elk Park School, and children from the elementary school appeared as extras in those scenes. It remained in use as a school until the end of the 20th century, then converted in 2004 to apartments.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Cloudland High School is a public high school in Roan Mountain, Tennessee, United States and is one of the Carter County schools in north east Tennessee. The school has 337 students in grades seven through twelve.

Roan Mountain is a census-designated place (CDP) in Carter County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,360 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnson City Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the Tri-Cities region.

Roan Mountain State Park is a Tennessee state park in Carter County, in Northeast Tennessee. It is close to the Tennessee-North Carolina border and near the community of Roan Mountain, Tennessee. Situated in the Blue Ridge of the Appalachian Mountains, the park preserves 2,006 acres (8.12 km2) of mostly hardwood forest. The park is in close proximity to 6,285-foot (1,916 m) Roan Mountain and the Appalachian Trail, both of which are owned and managed by the US Forest Service. On exceptionally clear days, the Charlotte skyline can be photographed from the peak. Most of the town of Roan Mountain is privately owned by the residence, and much of the land in Roan Mountain has been family owned for many generations, being passed down generation after generation through the years.

John Thomas Wilder built several houses for his family and wife, Martha Jane Stewart, which are still in existence, and at least two have historic markers. The John T. Wilder House in Roan Mountain, Tennessee, United States, was one of the homes of John T. Wilder, the Union Army general and industrialist who built the Cloudland Hotel on Roan Mountain. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is one of two homes on Main Street in Roan Mountain that Wilder built.The General John T. Bitter End is an unincorporated community in Carter County, Tennessee, United States.It is located about 12 mi (19 km) southeast of Elizabethton. The Markland Cemetery is located north of the settlement. A historic school, the Bitter End School, was located to the south.

Heaton is an unincorporated community in Avery County, North Carolina, United States. The community is located along NC 194, centered at the Heaton Bridge, which crosses over the Elk River.

Dellinger Mill is a historic grist mill located near Hawk, Mitchell County, North Carolina. It was built about 1901–1903, and is a small unpainted rectangular frame building. It measures 18 feet by 14 feet, 6 inches, and is sheathed in chestnut boards and weatherboard. It has a 23 feet in diameter water wheel that was rebuilt in the 1940s. Other contributing resources are an apple house (c. 1901–1903) and the mill site. The mill operated until 1955 and was restored after 1997. It is the last water powered/stone ground grist mill of its kind left in the state of North Carolina.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
