Caldecott, Cheshire

St Edith's Church, Shocklach, stands at the end of an isolated lane running toward the River Dee about 1 mile (2 km) to the north of the village of Shocklach, Cheshire, England. It is a small Norman church, and is one of the oldest ecclesiastical buildings in Cheshire. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building and its simple Norman work is considered to be unique in Cheshire. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Chester and the deanery of Malpas. Its benefice is combined with that of St Mary, Tilston.

It has a parish council, the lowest tier of local government. The 2015 mid-year estimate of the parish population was 310.

In 2001 it had a population of around 45. The civil parish was abolished in 2015 and merged into Farndon.There is a small Methodist Chapel, founded in 1858, located on Crewe Lane South. This was originally Primitive Methodist but is now part of the South Cheshire Circuit and the local Cheshire Hills Mission Area.The parish contained one listed building, Crewe Hill, which is designed at Grade II. This grade is the lowest of the three gradings given to listed buildings and is applied to "buildings of national importance and special interest".

Crewe Hill is a country house near Crewe by Farndon, to the southeast of the village of Farndon, Cheshire, England. It was enlarged from a farmhouse for the Barnston family of Churton Hall in the early 19th century. In about 1890 it was extended, including the addition of a dining room to the rear. The building is rendered, and has slate roofs. It is in two storeys, and is symmetrical, with a central gable and wings with gables. A cottage is attached to its right. Internally there is a central Great Hall rising through both storeys. This has a gallery and contains a collection of items of antiquarianism. The house and the attached cottage are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade listed building.

The Wych Brook, Worthenbury Brook and Red Brook, formerly known as the River Elfe, is a tributary of the River Dee in England and Wales, forming part of both the historic and present-day border between the two countries. Shocklach village is in the southwestern corner of Cheshire, approximately 1 kilometre (0.6 mi) from the border between Wales and England, the River Dee. The village lies between Wrexham, 10 kilometres (6 mi) to the west, and Nantwich, 21 kilometres (13 mi) to the east.

Overton Rural District was formed by the Local Government Act 1894 which created numerous administrative areas around the country. The district was located in an exclave of Flintshire known as English Maelor, surrounded by Cheshire, Denbighshire and Shropshire. Maelor was a rural district in the administrative county of Flintshire, Wales, from 1894 to 1974. The area approximated to the hundred of Maelor or English Maelor (Welsh: Maelor Saesneg), and was notable for forming a detached part of the county, surrounded by Cheshire, Denbighshire and Shropshire. The administrative centre was located at Overton. The district was formed as Overton Rural District by the Local Government Act 1894 from the Flintshire parishes of Ellesmere, Whitchurch and Wrexham Rural Sanitary Districts. It was renamed as Maelor Rural District in 1953. It consisted of eleven civil parishes: Bangor on Dee Bettisfield Bronington Halghton Hanmer Iscoyd Overton Penley Tybroughton Willington WorthenburyThe district was abolished in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972, when it was merged into Wrexham Maelor, one of six districts of the new County of Clwyd.

Stretton Hall is a country house in the parish of Stretton in Cheshire, England. It was built in about 1763 for John Leche. The house is constructed in brick on a sandstone basement, with painted stone dressings, and a slate roof. It has three symmetrical elevations. The entrance front is in three two-storey bays with a single-storey wing on each side. The central bay is canted, with five steps leading up to a doorway with a pediment. The windows are sashes. The garden front has similar windows, other than the wings, each of which contains a Venetian window. To the right of the house is attached a further wing, converted from the 17th-century stable of an earlier house. The house and former stable area is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. The sandstone garden walls are listed at Grade II.
