The Little Rapid River is a 4.6-mile-long (7.4 km) stream in Kalkaska County, Michigan, in the United States. It is a tributary of the Rapid River, part of the Elk River Chain of Lakes Watershed flowing to Lake Michigan.

The airport sits on 160 acres (65 ha) at an elevation of 1,030 feet (314 m).The airport is the starting point for the Iceman Cometh Challenge bike race, the largest single-day point-to-point bike race in the country. Racers start at Kalkasa Airport, and it takes competitors to Timber Ridge in nearby Traverse City. It is also home to Kalkaska's National Trout Festival as well as a WinterFest.The airport often sees coast guard training missions from the base at the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City. Training missions are often open to the public so that community residents can observe the operations and interact with crewmembers and aircraft.

The National Trout Festival is an annual festival held in Kalkaska, Michigan the last full weekend in April to celebrate the opening of trout season in Michigan. The 86th National Trout Festival will be held 19–23 April 2023. 2020 was cancelled as the COVID-19 pandemic was to blame. It was also cancelled for two years during World War II. Events of the National Trout Festival include a fishing contest for children aged 16 and younger, a carnival, parades, fireworks, motor sports and live music.

Kalkaska ( kal-KASS-kə) is a village in the U.S. state of Michigan. Kalkaska is the county seat and only incorporated community of Kalkaska County, and is considered part of Northern Michigan. The population was 2,132 at the 2020 census, an increase from 2,020 at the 2010 census. Kalkaska is part of the Traverse City micropolitan area, and is often considered a bedroom community of nearby Traverse City. The town is also renowned for hosting the National Trout Festival, with the first festivities being held in 1935.

The Grass River is a 2.3-mile-long (3.7 km) river in Antrim County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is part of the Elk River Chain of Lakes Watershed that begins in northern Antrim County with Intermediate Lake, which is connected by the Intermediate River with Lake Bellaire. The Grass River flows from Lake Bellaire into Clam Lake, which in turn drains into Torch Lake via the short Clam River. Torch Lake itself is drained by the Torch River, which flows into Lake Skegemog, which opens into Elk Lake. Elk Lake flows into the east arm of Grand Traverse Bay at Elk Rapids. The Grass River Natural Area is a park of 1,492 acres (6.04 km2) of wetlands and wildlife habitat purchased since 1969 by the non-profit group Grass River Natural Area, Inc. There are 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of boardwalk trails, bridges, and observation platforms that provide easy access to river, stream, lake and wetlands. There are 7.5 miles (12.1 km) total of hiking trails, including the 2.2 miles (3.5 km) Grass River Natural Area Rail-Trail. This rail trail uses converted roadbed built in the late 1800s by the Chicago and West Michigan Railroad, and operated until the 1980s by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway.
