Pijnacker (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈpɛi̯nʔɑkər]) is a town and suburb in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is bordered Zoetermeer to the north, by Nootdorp to the northwest, by Delfgauw to the southwest, by Rotterdam (specifically Overschie) to the south and by Berkel en Rodenrijs to the east. Pijnacker was a separate municipality until 2002, when it merged with Nootdorp to form Pijnacker-Nootdorp, which is a part of Greater The Hague. However, Pijnacker does not border The Hague (Nootdorp does), and it does border Rotterdam, so it may be more accurate to view it as a Rotterdam suburb, rather than a The Hague suburb, especially since Nootdorp and Pijnacker, while technically contiguous, have about 2 km of nature between them. While it may then seem strange that the two towns would want to merge, they did so preemptively to avoid potential annexing by the cities. Pijnacker has two stops on the Randstadrail E-lijn between The Hague and Rotterdam: Pijnacker Centrum and Pijnacker-Zuid. In and around Pijnacker there are big and attractive nature areas, of which one is the Ackerdijkse Plassen, one of the most important bird areas in the Netherlands.

Pijnacker-Nootdorp (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈpɛinˌɑkər ˈnoːdɔr(ə)p] (listen)) is a suburban municipality in the Randstad conurbation in the Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of 38.62 km2 (14.91 sq mi) of which 1.54 km2 (0.59 sq mi) is water. The municipality of Pijnacker-Nootdorp comprises three settlements: Delfgauw, Nootdorp and Pijnacker. It also contains seven historical hamlets (one of which is partially in Delft), which all fall under one or more of the settlements for all intents and purposes. It is the result of merging the municipalities of Pijnacker and Nootdorp in 2002, with parts being annexed by neighbouring The Hague. It is part of Greater The Hague, but it also borders Delft and Rotterdam. It is also part of the larger Rotterdam-The Hague metropolitan area. Pijnacker and Nootdorp are connected to The Hague and Rotterdam through the Randstadrail public transport system, and Nootdorp also with a tram line.

Floriade 1992 was an international garden exhibition held in Zoetermeer, Netherlands, recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and organized under the authority of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The Floriade ran from April 9 to October 10, 1992, and was held on a converted pasture outside Zoetermeer near The Hague. The exhibition covered 168 acres and had participants from more than 20 countries. Thirteen foreign countries participated (Germany, India, Japan, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Thailand and Indonesia). The Floriade hosted 3.36 million visitors. The Floriade site was also the setting for a sculpture exhibition, in which many artists including Rob Scholte helped construct an exhibition called "The Colossus of Zoetermeer". The exhibition was officially opened by Queen Beatrix. A special tram line was built to service the exhibition.
