Lansingerland is a municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. It was formed on 1 January 2007, by the merger of the municipalities of Berkel en Rodenrijs, Bleiswijk and Bergschenhoek, collectively known as the "B-Triangle". The former municipality of Tempel, abolished in 1855, is also part of Lansingerland. The name was chosen from a competition and derived from the name Lansingh, the height-of-land between the Delfland and Schieland Water Boards, which runs between the "3B-Triangle" villages. The choice of name is symbolic: the name of the border that formerly divided the area, now unites it. The "h" in Lansingh was dropped to ease spelling. Bergschenhoek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌbɛr(ə)xsə(n)ˈɦuk] (listen)) is a town and former municipality in the municipality of Lansingerland, in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. It is situated roughly 10 km to the north of Rotterdam. The town had a population of 18,475 in 2019, and covered an area of 15.52 km² (5.99 mile²) of which 0.63 km² (0.24 mile²) is water. On 1 January 2007, the town was merged with neighbouring towns Berkel en Rodenrijs and Bleiswijk to form the new municipality Lansingerland; these three towns collectively are known locally as the "3B Hoek". Due to the continuing influx of people to Bergschenhoek, it is in a constant state of expansion and is now predominantly a commuter town as most of its residents work in the neighbouring cities, such as The Hague and Rotterdam. The town had a large population increase since 1990, because of the Vinex-plans. The town grew from 7,600 inhabitants in 1990 to nearly 18,500 in 2019. The name of the town is derived from a district of the nearby city of Rotterdam, Hillegersberg. There was a road leading to this municipality. On a corner of this road ('hoek' in Dutch) a settlement grew, leading to a village. This village was named after Hillegersberg, and the corner was incorporated in the name, hence the name (Hillegers)Bergschenhoek.

Rotterdam was subjected to heavy aerial bombardment by the Luftwaffe during the German invasion of the Netherlands in World War II. The objective was to support the German troops fighting in the city, break Dutch resistance and force the Dutch army to surrender. Bombing began at the outset of hostilities on 10 May and culminated with the destruction of the entire historic city centre on 14 May, an event sometimes referred to as the Rotterdam Blitz. According to an official list published in 2022 at least 1,150 people were killed (with 711 deaths in the 14 May bombing alone) and 85,000 more were left homeless. The psychological and physical success of the raid, from the German perspective, led the Oberkommando der Luftwaffe (OKL) to threaten to destroy the city of Utrecht if the Dutch command did not surrender. The Dutch surrendered in the late afternoon of 14 May, signing the capitulation early the next morning.

Hillegersberg-Schiebroek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦɪləɣərzˌbɛr(ə)x sxiˈbruk]) is a borough in northern Rotterdam. The borough has (on January 1, 2008) 40,846 inhabitants. Until the annexation by Rotterdam on August 1, 1941, Hillegersberg and Schiebroek were independent communities. In 1947 in Rotterdam, the first elected councils established, in 1948 was the first Hillegersberg-Schiebroek ward council. In 1972, the Regulation on the localities in the city of Rotterdam was adopted. The neighbourhood council of Hillegersberg-Schiebroek was in 1983 converted into a municipal section. Hillegersberg is operated by Rotterdam tram lines 4 and 8 and Schiebroek by tram line 25. The borough is also served by several bus lines from the RET and Qbuzz. Within the municipality Hillegersberg-Schiebroek the Stichting Wijkvervoer Hillegersberg-Schiebroek takes care of cheap transportation for the elderly and other people unable to use own or public transport. This is done under the name De Belbus.

The Japanese School of Rotterdam (Dutch: De Japanse School van Rotterdam, Japanese: ロッテルダム日本人学校 Rotterudamu Nihonjin Gakkō) is a Japanese international school in Hillegersberg, Rotterdam.The Hague-Rotterdam Japanese Saturday School (ハーグ・ロッテルダム日本語補習授業校 Hāgu Rotterudamu Nihongo Hoshū Jugyō Kō), a Japanese Saturday school formed in 1996 by the merger of existing Saturday schools in The Hague and Rotterdam, holds its classes at the Rotterdam Japanese day school. The Saturday school rents from the day school and has done so since 2003.
