Gentleshaw

Gentleshaw Common is an area of common land situated in Gentleshaw on the northern side of Burntwood in Staffordshire, England. The area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest as it is an area of globally rare lowland heathland. The common plays host to a series of fun public events throughout the year, including scrub bashing and countryside walks.

Cannock Wood is a village and civil parish in the Cannock Chase district of Staffordshire, England. The village is situated around 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Cannock, the same distance south of Rugeley, and 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Burntwood. According to the 2011 Census, the parish had a population of 1,031, a decrease from 1,052 in the 2001 Census.Cannock Wood makes up part of Cannock Chase which is a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its mainly residential area is interspersed with open areas including various parks and public footpaths through the local countryside. The village hosts tourist attractions including Castle Ring, an ancient fort, and Nun's Well. Cannock Wood also hosts a general store, Dickinson's, and two pubs, The Park Gate Inn and The Redmore. There is also a village hall, a children's play area, a cricket club and a hairdressers. Most children living in Cannock Wood between the ages of 4 and 11 attend the primary school in the neighbouring hamlet of Gentleshaw.

Castle Ring is an Iron Age hill fort, situated high up on the southern edge of Cannock Chase (The Chase), Staffordshire, England. It is the highest point on The Chase with an elevation of 242 metres (794 feet). It is near the village of Cannock Wood, south of Rugeley and north of Burntwood, adjacent to the Heart of England Way. There are excellent views over The Chase, the Trent Valley and Staffordshire more generally.

Nun's Well is a spring just inside the village of Cannock Wood in Staffordshire, England, at the base of the Mercia Mudstone Group. There is no evidence that nuns ever lived there, and the name appears to originate in the grant of part of Cannock Chase by Henry II to a priory at Farewell. Slag remains, possibly of a bloomery, have been found there.

Beaudesert was an estate and stately home on the southern edge of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire. It was one of the family seats of the Paget family, the Marquesses of Anglesey. The estate was obtained by William Paget, 1st Baron Paget in 1546; the family's other main seat is at Plas Newydd. The estate was broken up by the 6th Marquess of Anglesey due to financial difficulties; as a result the furniture was sold off and the fabric of the hall and stables went to auction. Some of the furnishings of the house, including oak panelling and the Waterloo Staircase were taken to Carrick Hill in Adelaide, South Australia. Demolition began in 1935; however, it was never completed and some ruins remain standing. Today some of the former estate land is used as a Scout and Guide camp and a local wildlife trust and new buildings are used for residential courses. The Grand Lodge built in 1814 still stands at the entrance on Horsey Lane, east of the ruins.

Chase Terrace is an area in the town of Burntwood in Staffordshire, England. Chase Terrace began as a mining village in the 1860s with mines at the south side of Cannock Road. By 1884 Chase Terrace had gained a population of nearly 2,000. By 1959 all of the mines in the village had closed, by 1971 the population doubled as many people from Birmingham and the Black Country moved to Burntwood. Sankeys Corner became the commercial centre of Chase Terrace with an industrial estate, shopping centre and a market by 1970. A library and parish council were added by 1987. The area is the location of Chase Terrace Academy (formerly Chase Terrace High School).

Burntwood is a former mining town and civil parish in the Lichfield District in Staffordshire, England, approximately 4 miles (6 km) west of Lichfield and north east of Brownhills. The town had a population of 26,049 and forms part of Lichfield district. The town forms one of the largest urbanised parishes in England. Samuel Johnson opened an academy in nearby Edial in 1736. The town is home to the smallest park (opened to commemmorate the marriage of the Prince of Wales in 1863) the UK, Prince's Park, which is located next to Christ Church on the junction of Farewell Lane and Church Road. The town expanded in the nineteenth century around the coal mining industry. Areas of Burntwood are Boney Hay, Chase Terrace, Chasetown, Gorstey Lea and Burntwood Green. Nearby places are Brownhills, Cannock, Cannock Wood, Norton Canes, Gentleshaw, Pipehill, Muckley Corner, Hammerwich and Lichfield. In July 2009 a Burntwood man, Terry Herbert, discovered a hoard of Saxon treasure with a metal detector in a field in the adjoining village of Hammerwich. Known as the Staffordshire Hoard, it is the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold yet found.

Chase Terrace Academy (formerly Chase Terrace Technology College and Chase Terrace High School before that) is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in the Chase Terrace area of Burntwood in the English county of Staffordshire.Originally known as Chase Terrace High School, the school acquired specialisms in Design and Technology and in the Visual, Media and Performing Arts and was renamed Chase Terrace Technology College. The school was destroyed by fire in August 2002, and was rebuilt and refurbished by 2004.Previously a community school administered by Staffordshire County Council, in January 2017 Chase Terrace Technology College converted to academy status and is now sponsored by the Stephen Sutton Multi-Academy Trust. Chase Terrace Academy offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further BTECs.

George's Hayes is a nature reserve of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. It is an ancient woodland, about a mile south-west of the village of Longdon, between Rugeley and Lichfield in Staffordshire, England. It is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Edial Hall School, Edial, is celebrated as the house in which lexicographer, Samuel Johnson, opened an academy in 1736, where he taught and commenced writing the tragedy Irene.Edial House is a Grade II listed house dating from about 1740.

Prospect Village is a small village in the Cannock Chase District of Staffordshire, West Midlands, England. Located between Burntwood and Hednesford. The village is very small with residential houses, a village hall, a pub and service garage. The near churches are in Gentleshaw and Cannock Wood. The village was on a mineral-only line from Hednesford to Burntwood. A former embankment is still visible on Ironstone Road and Cannock Wood Road
