Newark Velodrome

Vailsburg is a neighborhood in the city of Newark in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Part of the West Ward, its elevation is 280 feet (85 m). As of 2000, Vailsburg had a population of 34,348. The Vailsburg section of Newark is on a hill which closely aligns with the suburban and park areas outside it. Vailsburg includes the two smaller neighborhoods of upper Vailsburg and lower Vailsburg, both of which have Sanford Avenue as a focal point. Upper Vailsburg is closer to Maplewood and South Orange.

Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts is a specialty magnet public middle school / high school that serves students in sixth through twelfth grades in the city of East Orange in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, as part of the East Orange School District, offering separate middle school and high school curricula. The school is named for actress Cicely Tyson. Students are accepted based on all their talents. The school teaches core disciplines while focusing on the creative potential of the students. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 732 students and 64.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.4:1. There were 451 students (61.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 48 (6.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The school district, in partnership with the City of East Orange applied for and received a Demonstration Project Grant to build a new school. Between 2006 and 2009, Tyson Principal Mrs. Laura Trimmings, Washington Academy of Music Principal Mrs. Brenda Veale, the Mayor Robert Bowser and District Arts Coordinator Mrs. Iqua Colson worked with Ms Cicely Tyson on the design and curriculum for the project. In September 2009, Tyson's historic Elmwood Avenue building (formerly known as Vernon L. Davey Junior High) closed, and a new $180 million, 300,000-square-foot (28,000 m2) facility on Walnut Street (on the site of the former East Orange High School) took its place. The new facility, the Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts, is among the largest and most technologically advanced schools ever built in the state of New Jersey, with extensive performing arts facilities which meet or exceed the highest professional standards. The school sits on a campus which consists of an elementary school and middle/high school. The school's 800-seat theater has been built to Broadway standards in terms of sound, lighting and acoustics. In addition to the school's theaters, students have access to a TV studio, art studios, music rooms, individual performance practice rooms, animation rooms and shops to build and design stage sets. The classrooms all feature smartboards, advanced integrated audio-visual systems, and multiple computer workstations.

East Orange High School was a comprehensive community public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades from 1891 to 2002 in East Orange, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. For most of its existence, the school operated as one of the two secondary schools of the East Orange School District.

Irvington Public Schools is a public school district serving children in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in Irvington, New Jersey, United States. The district is one of 31 former Abbott districts statewide that were established pursuant to the decision by the New Jersey Supreme Court in Abbott v. Burke which are now referred to as "SDA Districts" based on the requirement for the state to cover all costs for school building and renovation projects in these districts under the supervision of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority.As of the 2019–20 school year, the district, comprised of 12 schools, had an enrollment of 8,020 students and 530.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 15.1:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "A", the lowest of eight groupings. Holy Sepulchre Cemetery is located in East Orange and Newark, New Jersey. The Garden State Parkway runs through the two halves of the cemetery (exit 144 and exit 145, respectively). The cemetery was established in 1859 and is maintained by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark.In the 1950s, the newly constructed Garden State Parkway cut directly through the cemetery. Hundreds of graves had to be moved prior to construction. Both sides of the cemetery are visible to drivers on the Parkway today.

The Stanley Theater is a former movie theater located in Newark, New Jersey. It was built in 1927 and was turned into a social hall in the 1970s. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 28, 1986.

Fairmount Cemetery is a 150-acre (0.61 km2) rural cemetery in the West Ward of Newark, New Jersey, in the neighborhood of Fairmount. It opened in 1855, shortly after the Newark City Council banned burials in the central city due to fears that bodies spread yellow fever. The first burial in Fairmount Cemetery was a 24-year-old man named Lewis J. Pierson. Fairmount is still accepting interments.Along with Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Fairmount has the graves of Newark's most eminent turn of the century citizens, including Clara Maass, who gave her life in the investigation of yellow fever. A high proportion of the graves belong to German families. Fairmount Cemetery includes large trees, rolling hills, and intricately carved monuments. Featured near the old South Orange Avenue entrance is the recently restored zinc Settlers' Monument, commemorating the founders of Newark. There is also a Civil War memorial. The modern entrance to Fairmount Cemetery is on Central Avenue.

West Side High School is a four-year comprehensive community public high school complex in Newark, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as part of the Newark Public Schools. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 658 students and 45.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.5:1. There were 473 students (71.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 33 (5.0% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The West Side campus has hosted two separate high school programs that operate independently but have shared a facility and athletic programs: Newark Early College High School, which prepares students in grades 7–12 to complete up to 60 college-level credits during their high school career Newark Vocational High School prepares students in grades 9-12 for college and career options.

Newark Vocational High School is a four-year comprehensive community public high school in Newark, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, serving students in ninth through tenth grades, and operating as part of the Newark Public Schools. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 514 students and 51.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.1:1. There were 378 students (73.5% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 42 (8.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Newark Early College High School is a six-year comprehensive community public high school in Newark, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades, and operating as part of the Newark Public Schools. Together with Newark Vocational High School, the school is one of two high schools operated on the West Side Campus. As of the 2015-16 school year, the school had an enrollment of 469 students and 41.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.4:1. There were 302 students (64.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 13 (2.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The East Orange Public Library is the free public library of East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey

East Orange is an active commuter railroad train station in the city of East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey. Located next to East Orange City Hall, the station serves trains on the two lines that make up New Jersey Transit's Morris and Essex Lines: the Morristown Line and Gladstone Branch. Trains heading east to New York Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal stop at Newark Broad Street Station next, while trains heading west towards Gladstone and Hackettstown stop at Brick Church station. East Orange station contains two platforms (one side platform and one island platform) to service three active tracks. The station is accessible for handicapped persons per the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Service in East Orange began on November 19, 1836 when the Morris and Essex Railroad opened to Orange. Originally the station was known as Orange Junction as the name East Orange was assigned to the now-closed Grove Street station to the east. The current station at the location opened on December 18, 1922 when the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad completed an elevation project of the tracks through the city. The headhouse at East Orange station were added to the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places in 1984 as part of the Operating Passenger Railroad Stations Thematic Resource.
