The East Orange VA Medical Center is a United States Department of Veterans Affairs hospital complex located at 385 Tremont Avenue in East Orange of Essex County, New Jersey. Established in 1952, it is part of the VA New Jersey Health Care System. Listed as the East Orange VA Hospital, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 4, 2018, for its significance in health/medicine.

Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts is a specialty magnet public middle school / high school that serves students in sixth through twelfth grades in the city of East Orange in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, as part of the East Orange School District, offering separate middle school and high school curricula. The school is named for actress Cicely Tyson. Students are accepted based on all their talents. The school teaches core disciplines while focusing on the creative potential of the students. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 732 students and 64.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.4:1. There were 451 students (61.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 48 (6.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The school district, in partnership with the City of East Orange applied for and received a Demonstration Project Grant to build a new school. Between 2006 and 2009, Tyson Principal Mrs. Laura Trimmings, Washington Academy of Music Principal Mrs. Brenda Veale, the Mayor Robert Bowser and District Arts Coordinator Mrs. Iqua Colson worked with Ms Cicely Tyson on the design and curriculum for the project. In September 2009, Tyson's historic Elmwood Avenue building (formerly known as Vernon L. Davey Junior High) closed, and a new $180 million, 300,000-square-foot (28,000 m2) facility on Walnut Street (on the site of the former East Orange High School) took its place. The new facility, the Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts, is among the largest and most technologically advanced schools ever built in the state of New Jersey, with extensive performing arts facilities which meet or exceed the highest professional standards. The school sits on a campus which consists of an elementary school and middle/high school. The school's 800-seat theater has been built to Broadway standards in terms of sound, lighting and acoustics. In addition to the school's theaters, students have access to a TV studio, art studios, music rooms, individual performance practice rooms, animation rooms and shops to build and design stage sets. The classrooms all feature smartboards, advanced integrated audio-visual systems, and multiple computer workstations.

East Orange High School was a comprehensive community public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades from 1891 to 2002 in East Orange, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. For most of its existence, the school operated as one of the two secondary schools of the East Orange School District.

The Newark Velodrome was a bicycle track located on South Orange Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. It measured six laps to the mile, or 293 yards per lap. The track was built in 1907. The Newark Tornadoes of the National Football League also played several "home" games on the track's grassy infield, during the 1930 season, while the other "home" games were played at Newark Schools Stadium.

Vailsburg is a neighborhood in the city of Newark in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Part of the West Ward, its elevation is 280 feet (85 m). As of 2000, Vailsburg had a population of 34,348. The Vailsburg section of Newark is on a hill which closely aligns with the suburban and park areas outside it. Vailsburg includes the two smaller neighborhoods of upper Vailsburg and lower Vailsburg, both of which have Sanford Avenue as a focal point. Upper Vailsburg is closer to Maplewood and South Orange.

Vailsburg High School was a public high school in Vailsburg, Newark, United States. It was established in 1961 and was part of the Newark Public Schools district. It closed as a high school in 1988; the district has since re-purposed the building as a middle school and elementary school.The school's student body was 56 percent black in 1975 and 84 percent black by 1979, during the continued white flight in the city through the 1970s.

The Eugene V. Kelly Carriage House, also known as Father Vincent Monella Art Center, is located on the campus of Seton Hall University in South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. It was built in 1887 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It includes Late Victorian architecture and is listed for its meeting architectural criteria. The listed area is 5 acres (2.0 ha) and includes just the one contributing building.

Seton Hall University (SHU) is a private Roman Catholic research university in South Orange, New Jersey. Founded in 1856 by then-Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley and named after his aunt, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Seton Hall is the oldest diocesan university in the United States.Seton Hall consists of 9 schools and colleges and has an undergraduate enrollment of about 5,800 students and a graduate enrollment of about 4,400. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".The university is known for its men's basketball team, which has appeared in 13 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournaments after making it to the final of the 1989 tournament and losing 80–79 in overtime to the Michigan Wolverines. Walsh Gymnasium is a multi-purpose arena in South Orange, New Jersey on the campus of Seton Hall University. The arena opened in 1941 and can seat 1,316 people. It was home to the Seton Hall Pirates men's basketball team before they moved to the Meadowlands in 1985 and then Prudential Center in 2007. Currently, the arena hosts the women's basketball and volleyball teams, but continues to host men's basketball for preseason exhibitions, postseason invitational games such as early rounds of the NIT, and occasionally a regular season non-conference game if there is a conflict with Prudential Center's event schedule. The building is part of the Richie Regan Recreation & Athletic Center, and, like the school's main library, is named for Rev. Thomas J. Walsh, fifth bishop of Newark and former President of the Board of Trustees. Walsh hosted a semifinal game of the ECAC Metro Region tournament, a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's college basketball tournament organized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), in 1977. Both games for the Pirates in the 2012 NIT were played in Walsh.
