Wychwood

Cornbury Park is an estate near Charlbury, Oxfordshire. It comprises about 5000 acres, mostly farmland and woods, including a remnant of the Wychwood Forest, and was the original venue for the Cornbury Music Festival and later the Wilderness Festival.

Shorthampton is a hamlet in Chilson civil parish about 2 miles (3 km) west of Charlbury, in Oxfordshire, England. The oldest parts of the Church of England parish church of All Saints are Norman, and a round-headed lancet window from this period survives in the north wall of the nave. The present chancel arch is small and was built in the 13th or 14th century. Most of the current windows are Perpendicular Gothic. All Saints' has box pews that were added in the 18th century and a south porch that was built in the 19th century. All Saints' contains several 15th century wall paintings including a rare one of the "Miracle of the Clay Birds" from the Infancy Gospel of Thomas and another of Saint Zita. All Saints' is a Grade II* listed building. All Saints' is part of the Benefice of Charlbury with Shorthampton. Most church services are now held at the parish church of St Mary the Virgin, Charlbury.

Charlbury railway station is a railway station serving the town of Charlbury in Oxfordshire, England. This station and all trains serving it are operated by Great Western Railway. After almost 40 years as a single-platform station, the track through Charlbury station was redoubled with the recommissioning of a second platform on 6 June 2011 as part of the project to improve reliability and increase traffic capacity on the Cotswold Line.

Chilson is a hamlet and civil parish in the Evenlode Valley in West Oxfordshire, England, about 4+1⁄2 miles (7 km) south of Chipping Norton. The civil parish also includes the hamlet of Shorthampton, about 2⁄5 mile (1 km) north east of Chilson. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 141. The toponym, first recorded as Cildestuna in about 1200, is derived from the Old English ċildes tūn, meaning "estate of the young nobleman".

Leafield Castle (also known as Leafield Barrow) is a motte castle in the village of Leafield in the north west region of Oxfordshire. All that is left of the castle are the earthworks and the earth mound that formed the centre of the castle. It has a commanding view and is 220 metres (720 ft) north west of the Church of St Michael and All Angels. The castle is similar in size and shape to the nearby Ascot d'Oilly Castle. The motte measures 38 metres (125 ft) across and stands up to 4 metres (13 ft) high. It has a flat, oval summit which measures 19.9 metres (65 ft) from north west to south east and 12 metres (39 ft) from south west to north east. A square feature measuring 10.9 metres (36 ft) across with an internal depression 7.5 metres (25 ft) square and 0.3 metres (1 ft 0 in) deep is believed to indicate the remains of the stone keep building. On the opening of a barrow in 1828, some ancient coins were dug up.The village of Leafield itself is very old and was established by at least the 11th century, but there are few medieval remains and these are limited to features in houses that were later extensively rebuilt. This would mean that there could have been a castle guarding over the village from the 11th century onwards. This castle would have influence over the royal forest of Wychwood, a key centre for hunting as well as royal visits.

Leafield is a village and civil parish about 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of Witney in West Oxfordshire. The parish includes the hamlet of Langley, 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Leafield village. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 945. The village is 635 feet (194 m) above sea level in the Cotswold Hills. It was the highest point in Oxfordshire until the 1974 county boundary changes enlarged the county.

Finstock is a village and civil parish about 2 miles (3 km) south of Charlbury in Oxfordshire, England. The parish is bounded to the northeast by the River Evenlode, to the southeast partly by the course of Akeman Street Roman road, and on other sides by field boundaries. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 797. For most of its history Finstock was a township of the ancient parish of Charlbury. Finstock became a separate civil parish in the late 19th century.

Charlbury () is a town and civil parish in the Evenlode valley, about 6 miles (10 km) north of Witney in the West Oxfordshire district of Oxfordshire, England. It is on the edge of Wychwood Forest and the Cotswolds. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 2,830.

Charlbury Museum is a local museum in the town of Charlbury, Oxfordshire, England. The museum and collections are organized and run by the Charlbury Society, which was founded in 1949. The museum's displays present traditional crafts and industries of the town, including maps and photographs. The collection was started in 1949 and the museum opened in the current building in 1962. The museum's collections are housed in five rooms including a newer entrance that was added in 2002. The galleries include exhibits of 19th-century costumes, fossils, prehistoric objects, and Romano-British artifacts. On the walls are pictures, shop/inn signs, local maps, and posters. There are copies of books by local authors, including Cornbury and the Forest of Wychwood by Vernon Watney. Items from local industries such as glove-making are on display. Such industry was a feature of Charlbury for several centuries; the last factory closed in 1968. Also presented are a blacksmith's forge including bellows and a portable anvil, together with displays of tools used by carpenters, farmers, thatchers, and watchmakers. The museum has a garden, which was the site of the Star Inn, demolished in 1910. There is a lawn with flowerbeds.

Finstock railway station serves the village of Finstock and the hamlet of Fawler in Oxfordshire, England. It is some distance from Finstock itself, being situated to the north-east of Charlbury Road (the present B4022), which crosses the line on an overbridge. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Great Western Railway. Crawley is a village and civil parish beside the River Windrush about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) north of Witney, Oxfordshire. The parish extends from the Windrush in the south almost to village of Leafield in the northwest. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 155.

Blenheim Farm is a 1-hectare (2.5-acre) nature reserve near Charlbury in Oxfordshire. It is owned and managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.This is a meadow surrounded by ancient hedges and woodland. Flora include common knapweed, lady's bedstraw, cowslip and ragged-robin, while there are butterflies such as the common blue and orange tip. Amphibians include common frogs, common toads and smooth newts.
