Walkington

The Walkington Hoard is a hoard of Corieltavian gold staters. They are a widely-scattered hoard which have been found by metal-detectorists over the course of a decade.

Broadgate is a housing estate close to the village of Walkington, England. It is situated approximately 2 miles (3 km) to the south-west of the market town of Beverley and lies on the B1230 road. Broadgate forms part of the civil parish of Walkington. Broadgate was the location of the Broadgate Hospital. The land the hospital was built upon was sold by nearby Broadgate Farm, the farm buildings are now converted into a small complex of luxury holiday cottages. After the hospital had been demolished, the former hospital site was redeveloped by Bryant Homes to create the current hamlet.

Humberside () was a non-metropolitan and ceremonial county in Northern England from 1 April 1974 until 1 April 1996. It was composed of land from either side of the Humber Estuary, created from portions of the East Riding of Yorkshire, West Riding of Yorkshire, and the northern part of Lindsey, Lincolnshire. The county council's headquarters was County Hall at Beverley, inherited from East Riding County Council. Its largest settlement and only city was Kingston upon Hull. Other notable towns included Goole, Beverley, Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Bridlington. The county stretched from Wold Newton in its northern tip to a different Wold Newton at its most southern point. Humberside bordered North Yorkshire to the north and west, South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire to the south-west, and Lincolnshire to the south. It faced east towards the North Sea. Humberside was abolished on 1 April 1996, with four unitary authorities being formed: North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, Kingston upon Hull, and East Riding of Yorkshire. The name has continued in use as a geographical term, mainly in the media, and in the names of institutions such as Humberside Police and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service. These institutions did not change their names mainly due to costs. There were proposals to merge the police force with other Yorkshire forces and then change all the forces' names accordingly. However, these proposals were later ruled out.Humber Enterprise Zone was launched in 2012 to encourage industrial development at 16 sites around the estuary.

Risby is the site of a deserted village and former stately home in the civil parish of Rowley in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south-west of Beverley and 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the A164 road.The area has an open partially wooded parkland, once one of the largest deer parks in Yorkshire, that is popular with local walkers. It also includes Risby Park, a farm, the Folly Lake Cafe. There are several fishponds in the ornamental lakes of the former hall, which have been operated as coarse fishing locations since 1990. The site also has an octagonal brick folly that is designated Grade II.

Bishop Burton is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It lies on the A1079 road approximately three miles (5 km) to the west of the market town of Beverley. According to the 2011 UK census, Bishop Burton parish had a population of 696, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 628.There has been human activity in Bishop Burton for at least 10,000 years, with traces left from the Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Romano-British eras. The village (whose name may derive from Burtone, meaning fortified farmstead) is mentioned in the Domesday Book as belonging to the Archbishop of York and the site of Archbishop's Manor House continued to be the site of Manor Houses up to the demolition of High Hall in 1952. The parish church of All Saints is a Grade II* listed building and its earliest parts date from the late 12th century. The only other surviving religious building is the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, dating from 1840, which is now a house. There was a school in the village from 1743 to 1986. In a field to the east of the village is one of the medieval stone boundary markers for the sanctuary of Saint John of Beverley that is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument.The look and feel of the village - black and white colour scheme, rustic porches and clay pantiles - are the result of improvements to estate housing carried out by ERB Hall-Watt and Richard Hall-Watt (see below) in the late 19th and early 20th century. Subsequent development has often followed this architectural style to retain the unified feel of the village. It is readily apparent when it has not.Bishop Burton is home to Bishop Burton College, a further education and higher education college specialising in agriculture and equine studies. Bishop Burton is also the home to Bishop Burton United Football Club, formed in 2008 as Wilberforce & Larkin Football Club before moving to the village at the start of the 2009–10 season and changing the name to Bishop Burton United so as to emphasise their link with the village and their new home. Bishop Burton United play in the East Riding County Football League Division 3 with matches taking place on Saturdays with a 2 pm kick off. United's home ground is the 4G artificial surface at Bishop Burton College. United's local rivals are nearby sides Molescroft Rangers and Market Weighton United. United have a reputation as a progressive and ambitious football club with the lofty aim of gaining semi-professional status within the next 7 years. The club is also known for its broad multicultural mix with Polish, Latvian, French, Indonesian and Nigerian players in their squad.

Little Weighton is a village in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Beverley and 4.1 miles (6.6 km) west of Cottingham and forms part of the civil parish of Rowley.

Bentley is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) south from the market town of Beverley, and to the west of the A164 road. Bentley forms part of the civil parish of Rowley. Access to the hamlet from the main road is by agricultural vehicles only. Also known as "Little London" there are census records dating back to 1851, but it is believed that there were people living there long before that. There were about 220 from 1851 to 1948. Started as mainly farming land for the residents, more jobs developed over the years. As it became more industrial everyone fled. Located at sea level, Bentley has a fairly warm summer climate. The area's yearly temperature is 51.75°F. Bentley is 0.22% higher in temperature than the average of the United Kingdom. Bentley typically receives about 14.16 millimetres of precipitation. That is about 38.64 rainy days yearly. Its warmest month is August, reaching temperatures of 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The coldest months are in January reaching right above freezing temperatures at 36 degrees Fahrenheit.

Beverley Aerodrome, was a First World War era Royal Flying Corps training depot (No. 36), in Bishop Burton, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The site, like many others in Yorkshire, was developed from a racecourse on the western edge of Beverley, along the road between Beverley and York. Initially set up as a location for squadrons employed in Home Defence (HD), particularly preventing Zeppelin attacks on Hull and the east coast, the site later became a training depot for squadrons and flights who would then deploy to the front line. Beverley was also used as a standing up and transfer location for six Canadian Reserve Squadrons in 1917, all of which were posted to Canada. Beverley Aerodrome was used between 1916 and 1920, with the RAF later using the site in the 1930s in a non-flying role. Although named as Beverley, and occupying a large part of the racecourse site, the hangars and technical area of Beverley Aerodrome were actually located in the parish of Bishop Burton.

Little Weighton railway station was a station on the Hull and Barnsley Railway, and served the village of Little Weighton in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The station opened on 27 July 1885, closed to passengers on 1 August 1955 and closed completely on 6 July 1964.

The Beverley Folk Festival is a three-day celebration of folk music, art, comedy and spoken word held in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was first organised in 1983 by the White Horse Folk Club and grew considerably over thirty years, being located both at Beverley Leisure Centre and at local venues in the town. In 2013, it moved to Beverley Racecourse and ran until 2018 when it fell into liquidation, resulting in a smaller programme of events being hosted in the town as Beverley Fringe Festival that year. It returns in 2022 again as the Folk Festival.
