Bickerstaffe is a village and civil parish in the West Lancashire district of Lancashire, England. According to the 2001 Census the population of the civil parish was 1,196, reducing to 1,180 at the 2011 census, although the population of the electoral ward, which includes Lathom South, was slightly greater at 2,013, reducing to 1,988 at the 2011 census. The village is near junction 3 of the M58 motorway, and is about four miles west of Skelmersdale.

The A570 is a primary route in Northern England, that runs from St Helens to Southport.

ROF Kirkby, (Filling Factory No. 7) was a large World War II Royal Ordnance Factory (ROF) filling munitions. The factory was based in the rural area of Kirkby, on the outskirts of Liverpool, Merseyside. The rural location was to reduce the potential damage from any accidental explosions. Munitions were produced from September 1940 to March 1946.

Lathom South is a civil parish in the West Lancashire district of Lancashire, England, situated near the towns of Ormskirk and Skelmersdale. The parish council was established in 2007, and the area, which includes the hamlets of Blaguegate and Scarth Hill, has historical ties to the neighbouring parish of Lathom. As of 2011, Lathom South has a population of 657.

Hey's Crossing Halt railway station was on the Skelmersdale branch, which ran from Ormskirk to Rainford Junction via Skelmersdale. Most trains ran beyond Rainford Junction through to St Helens. It opened in 1911 and closed on 18 June 1951. The line through the station was closed in 1964 and subsequently lifted. Hey's Crossing Halt has been demolished.

White Moss Level Crossing Halt railway station was on the Skelmersdale branch, which ran from Ormskirk to Rainford Junction via Skelmersdale. Most trains ran beyond Rainford Junction through to St Helens. The halt opened on 7 January 1907 and closed on 18 June 1951. The line through the station closed in 1964 and was subsequently lifted. The station was demolished and its site is now buried under the M58 motorway.

Skelmersdale railway station was a station located on the Skelmersdale branch at Skelmersdale, England. The station was originally named Blague Gate, having its name changed to Skelmersdale on 8 August 1874 and carried passengers from 1858 to 1956.

Simonswood is a civil parish in the West Lancashire district of Lancashire, England. At the 2001 census, the population was 130, increasing to 151 by the 2011 census.It was originally a township associated with the parish of Walton on the Hill, and became a separate civil parish in 1866. From 1894 to 1974 it formed part of the West Lancashire Rural District. On 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, it was transferred to the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley in the new metropolitan county of Merseyside. The Simonswood parish was transferred back to Lancashire (to the West Lancashire district), on 1 April 1994. At the time of this transfer the area of the parish was 830 hectares (8.3 km2; 3.2 sq mi), and the population was 150.There is one listed building in the parish, Simonswood Hall, which is listed at Grade II*.

West Lancashire is a local government district with borough status in Lancashire, England. The council is based in Ormskirk, and the largest town is Skelmersdale. The district borders Fylde to the north, over the Ribble Estuary; South Ribble, Chorley, and Wigan to the east; St Helens, and Knowsley to the south; and Sefton to the south and west. The borough has a population of 117,400 and an area of 133.8 square miles (347 km2). It is primarily rural, and the most populous settlements after Ormskirk and Skelmersdale are Burscough (9,935), Up Holland (7,578), and Tarleton (5,959). The borough council is based in Ormskirk, and there are twenty-one civil parishes. The west of the borough contains much of the southern part of the Lancashire Plain, a low-lying region of mossland. A large lake called Martin Mere occupied much of the area until it was drained for agriculture. The northern border of the borough is the Ribble Estuary, and both it and the remnant of Martin Mere are Ramsar sites. In the west the land is rises to Harrock Hill, Parbold Hill, and Ashurst Hill; the River Douglas flows west through the valley between the last two, then turns north and forms the borough boundary.

West Lancashire is a county constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. Following the resignation of Labour MP Rosie Cooper on 30 November 2022, the seat was won by the party's candidate Ashley Dalton in the by-election held on 9 February 2023.

Westhead is a village in the West Lancashire district of Lancashire, England. As of 2014, the estimated population was 886.

Simonswood Hall is a country house in the civil parish of Simonswood in the West Lancashire district of Lancashire, England. It was built in 1687 and thoroughly restored in the 1880s. The house is constructed in sandstone with a stone-slate roof. There are two storeys with an attic, and three bays, the third bay being a cross wing projecting under a gable. On the left return is a single-storey lean-to extension. The doorway in the central bay has a rusticated surround, with voussoirs and a keystone. There is one window that is transomed, all the others being mullioned; all the windows have hood moulds. The house also has quoins and finials on the gables, which are coped. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.
