National Park Drentsche Aa is a national park of the Netherlands located in the province of Drenthe on the west side of the Hondsrug. It consists of the cultural landscape surrounding the valley of the small river the Drentsche Aa. The landscape is currently nearly the same as it was in the mid 19th century, as the several agricultural landscape reforms of the 20th century were not implemented in this area. Because of this, many hedges, heathlands and traditionally managed fields ('essen' in Dutch) were spared from transformation. The national park is part of the (three times) larger national landscape Drentsche Aa.

Oudemolen is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo. Historically, the hamlet of Oude Molen was almost solely owned by the Linthorst Homan family, who have always held close ties with the towns population. The Linthorst Homan family rebuilt the windmill in the 19th century. The village was first mentioned in 1498 as "de molner ter Oldenmolen", and means old wind mill. Oudemolen was home to 24 people in 1840.

Zeegse is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 9 km northeast of Assen. The village was first mentioned in 1225 as Otto de Segese. The etymology is unclear. Zeegse was home to 51 people in 1840.

Gasteren is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 8 km east of Assen. The village was first mentioned between 1298 and 1304 as "in villa Ghestre, apud Ghesteren". The etymology is unclear.The hunebed (dolmen) D11 is a small incomplete dolmen. It has been fenced off because there are sheep in the heath. It used to have four capstones, but only two have remained. There are also 44 burial mounds around the village.Gasteren was home to 155 people in 1840.

Taarlo is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 5 km northeast of Assen. The village was first mentioned in 820 as Arlo. The etymology is unclear. Taarlo is an esdorp to the south of Tynaarlo. It has a triangular brink (village square) with a pond which was used as a water supply.Taarlo was home to 73 people in 1840.

Schipborg is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 11 km northeast of Assen. The village was first mentioned between 1298 and 1304 as Borc, and is a combination of a tree (probably a birch) and ship.Schipborg was home to 84 people in 1840.

Balloërveld or Ballooërveld (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌbɑ.loː.ərˈvɛlt]) is a hamlet in the municipality of Aa en Hunze in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands. Balloërveld owes its name to the nearby village of Balloo. The hamlet is located on the old main road Loon - Gasteren, on the edge of the Drentsche Aa National Landscape. In 2023, 14 people lived in the hamlet. The hamlet has its own zip code. South of the town is the eponymous Balloërveld nature reserve, known for its sand drifts and peat lakes.

The Strubben–Kniphorstbos is a nature reserve of 377 hectares, located between Anloo and Schipborg in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is the only archaeological reserve in the Netherlands. The park's composite name is derived from the 'stubby' oaks in the area, and by Gerrit Kniphorst, who was in the 19th century the owner of the then heathlands. Beginning in 1938, the site was for the most part of the 20th century used as a military training ground.

Loon is a village in the Netherlands and is part of the Assen municipality in Drenthe. The hunebed (dolmen) D15 is located near the village.

De Vlindertuin is a restaurant located in Zuidlaren in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star from 2008 to present.GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 15.0 out of 20 points.Head chef is Jilt Cazemier. De Vlindertuin is a member of Les Patrons Cuisiniers.De Vlindertuin was the first recipient of the "Provincial Awards" from the magazin "Lekker" in 2008. The received the award for being the highest ranking restaurant in Drenthe in the Lekker Top 100.The restaurant is located in a renovated Saxonian farmhouse built in 1719. It is the same building that earlier housed the Michelin starred restaurant Les Quatre Saisons.

Restaurant Les Quatre Saisons is a defunct restaurant in Zuidlaren, in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1981 and retained that rating until 1985.The restaurant closed before 1993, as the Michelin Guide mentioned the later also starred restaurant De Vlindertuin at that address.The restaurant was located in a renovated Saxonian farmhouse built in 1719. It is the same building that later housed the Michelin starred restaurant De Vlindertuin.

Zuidlaren (Noordenvelds: Zuudlaoren) is a village in the province of Drenthe in the Northern Netherlands. Zuidlaren has just over 10,000 inhabitants and is situated on natural heightened land which is called the Hondsrug. The village is part of the municipality of Tynaarlo. Formerly the village had its own municipality called Zuidlaren, but in 1998 Zuidlaren merged with Eelde and Vries. The new municipality was called "Zuidlaren" at first, but was renamed to Tynaarlo on 1 December 1999. Tynaarlo is the name of a much smaller village than Zuidlaren and is located between the 3 largest villages of the municipality: Eelde, Zuidlaren and Vries. The new town hall is located in Vries, which replaced the Laarwoud town hall in 2004.
