Finsterbergen is a former municipality in the district of Gotha, in Thuringia, Germany. Since 1 December 2007, it is part of the town Friedrichroda.

Friedrichroda (German pronunciation: [fʁiːdʁɪçˈʁoːda] ) is a town in the district of Gotha, Thuringia, Germany. It is situated at the north foot of the Thuringian Forest, 21 km by rail southwest of the town of Gotha. It is surrounded by fir-clad hills and possesses numerous handsome villa residences, a Kurhaus and a sanatorium. In the immediate neighborhood is the beautiful ducal hunting seat of Reinhardsbrunn, built out of the ruins of the famous Benedictine monastery founded in 1085. On 1 December 2007, the former municipalities Ernstroda and Finsterbergen were incorporated by Friedrichroda.

Reinhardsbrunn was a Verwaltungsgemeinschaft ("collective municipality") in the district of Gotha, in Thuringia, Germany. The seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft was in Friedrichroda. It consisted of the following municipalities: Ernstroda Finsterbergen FriedrichrodaThe Verwaltungsgemeinschaft was disbanded on 1 December 2007. The municipalities Ernstroda and Finsterbergen were incorporated by Friedrichroda.

Reinhardsbrunn in Friedrichroda near Gotha, in the German state of Thuringia, is the site of a formerly prominent Benedictine abbey, the house monastery of the Ludovingian Landgraves of Thuringia abbey extant between 1085 and 1525. Later used as an administrative seat by the Ernestine dukes of Saxony, the property was turned into a castle and park erected by the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha from 1827.

Zella-Mehlis is a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district, located in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated in the scenic Thuringian Forest, approximately 5 km north of Suhl and 20 km east of Meiningen. The town was notably home to Walther and Anschütz, two of Germany's most notable firearm manufacturers, both of which were originally founded in Zella-Mehlis. They operated there until Soviet occupation of Eastern Germany at the conclusion of World War II caused both companies to move. In January 2019, the former municipality Benshausen was integrated into Zella-Mehlis, expanding the town's jurisdiction.

The Rennsteiggarten Oberhof (7 hectares) is a botanical garden specializing in mountain flora, located in Rennsteig at Am Pfanntalskopf 3, Oberhof, Thuringia, Germany. It is open daily in the warmer months; an admission fee is charged. The garden was established in 1970 on the grounds of a former quarry at an elevation of 868 meters on the Pfanntalskopf. In 1972 the Cultural Federation and University of Jena agreed to scientific support, and plantings began with material from the Botanischer Garten Jena. In 1980 an indigenous plant bog was created, with a nature garden begun in 1985 for protected plants from the Thuringian mountains, and in 1993 a garden of Thuringian herbs.

Kleinschmalkalden is a village on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest in Landkreis Schmalkalden-Meiningen of Thuringia, Germany. In 2006 it joined the neighbouring municipality Floh-Seligenthal.
