Tomochichi Federal Building and United States Court House

The William Waring Property is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Located in the northwestern residential block of Wright Square, at 12 West State Street, it dates to 1825, making it the oldest extant building on the square. It was built for Dr. William R. Waring, a prominent Savannah physician. In a survey for the Historic Savannah Foundation, Mary Lane Morrison found the building to be of significant status.

The William Washington Gordon Monument is a public monument in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Located in Wright Square, the monument honors politician and businessman William Washington Gordon and was designed by Henry Van Brunt and Frank M. Howe. It was completed in 1883.

Wright Square is one of the 22 squares of Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located in the second row of the city's five rows of squares, on Bull Street and President Street, and was laid out in 1733 as one of the first four squares. It is south of Johnson Square, west of Oglethorpe Square, north of Chippewa Square and east of Telfair Square. The oldest building on the square is the William Waring Property, at 12 West State Street, which dates to 1825.The second square established in Savannah, it was originally name Percival Square, for John Percival, 1st Earl of Egmont, generally regarded as the man who gave the colony of Georgia its name (a tribute to Great Britain's King George II). It was renamed in 1763 to honor James Wright, the third and final royal governor of Georgia. Throughout its history it has also been known as Court House Square and Post Office Square; the present Tomochichi Federal Building and United States Court House is adjacent to the west.The square is the burial site of Tomochichi, a leader of the Creek nation of Native Americans. Tomochichi was a trusted friend of James Oglethorpe and assisted him in the founding of his colony. When Tomochichi died in 1739, Oglethorpe ordered him buried with military honors in the center of PercIval Square. In accordance with his people's customs the grave was marked by a pyramid of stones gathered from the surrounding area. In 1883, citizens wishing to honor William Washington Gordon replaced Tomochichi's monument with an elaborate and highly allegorical monument to Gordon, called the William Washington Gordon Monument. William Gordon is thus the only native Savannahian honored with a monument in one of the city's squares. Gordon's own daughter-in-law, Nellie Gordon, objected strongly to this perceived insult to Tomochichi. She and other members of the Colonial Dames of the State of Georgia planned to erect a new monument to Tomochichi, made of granite from Stone Mountain. The Stone Mountain Monument Company offered the material at no cost. Mrs. Gordon felt that she was being condescended to and insisted on paying. The Monument Company sent her a bill—some sources say for 50 cents, others for one dollar—payable on Judgment Day. Mrs. Gordon paid the bill and attached a note explaining that on Judgment Day the Dames "would be too busy attending their own duties on that momentous day." The new monument was erected in 1899. It stands in the southeast corner of the square and eulogizes Tomochichi as a great friend of James Oglethorpe and the people of Georgia.6 East State Street, in the northeastern tything lot of the square, doubled as Dixie's Flowers, the flower shop Mandy works at in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Bradley Lock and Key, located in the Patrick Duffy Building at 24 East State Street, also in the northeastern tything lot, is the oldest operating business in Savannah.

Bull Street Cemetery was a Jewish cemetery established in Savannah, Province of Georgia, in 1733. Today, a memorial in the median of West Oglethorpe Avenue, at Bull Street, erected in 1983 by the trustees of the Mordecai Sheftall Cemetery, marks the former location of the cemetery, which contained around twenty graves when it was built over around a century after it opened. The memorial says: "Original 1733 burial plot allotted by James Edward Oglethorpe to the Savannah Jewish Community." On November 3, 1761, George III "conveyed a certain half lot of land in Holland Tything, Percival Ward, to David Truan." This land was at the northwest corner of today's Bull Street and Oglethorpe Avenue.Several Jews were interred here before the family cemeteries were established. To honor the services of Benjamin Sheftall, one of the original forty or so Jews who arrived in Savannah on July 11, 1733, South Broad Street (as Oglethorpe Avenue was originally known) was extended to include within its bounds the unmarked burial of Sheftall's mother.The burial ground was closed in the first half of the 19th century, with some of the headstones that would otherwise have been discarded used as doorsteps at homes in the neighborhood.

10 East Oglethorpe Avenue (also known as the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and the Wayne–Gordon House) is a home in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Located on East Oglethorpe Avenue, it was built in 1820 and is part of the Savannah Historic District and of the Juliette Gordon Low Historic District. Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA, was born in the home in 1860. The house was Savannah's first registered National Historic Landmark.

Juliette Gordon Low Historic District consists of three buildings—the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace (also known as Wayne-Gordon House, First Girl Scout Headquarters, which was the carriage house for the Andrew Low House, converted for use by the Girl Scouts in May–June 1912, and said Andrew Low Carriage House, is a site in Savannah, Georgia, significant for its association with Juliette Gordon Low and the founding of the Girl Scouts of the USA. The district includes the Wayne-Gordon House at 10 East Oglethorpe Avenue, which is also known as Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, the First Girl Scout Headquarters (Andrew Low Carriage House) at 330 Drayton Street, and the Andrew Low House at 329 Abercorn Street. The Birthplace was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The initial designation included the First Girl Scout Headquarters. The Andrew Low House was later added to the designation creating the Juliette Gordon Low Landmark District.

The Lutheran Church of the Ascension is a historic Lutheran church in Savannah, Georgia, located in the Savannah Historic District. The congregation was founded by Johann Martin Boltzius in 1741, with the current building constructed in 1843.

The Independent Presbyterian Church of Savannah, on Bull Street in Savannah, Georgia, is the first Presbyterian church in Georgia, founded in 1755. Land for its first building was deeded by King George II of Great Britain for use by colonial adherents of the Church of Scotland. The first building burned down in 1796, and another modeled after St. Martin in the Fields was built in 1800. This building burned down in 1889 and a reproduction was completed in 1891.The current minister is Terry Johnson, who is a minister in the Presbyterian Church in America. It is included in the Savannah Historic District

Telfair Square is one of the 22 squares of Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located in the second row of the city's five rows of squares, on Barnard Street and West President Street, and was laid out in 1733 as one of the first four squares. It is south of Ellis Square, west of Wright Square and north of Orleans Square. Liberty Square formerly stood to its west but was later paved over. The oldest building on the square is Telfair Academy, at 121 Barnard Street, which dates to 1818–1820.Originally named St. James Square, in honor of a green space in London, and marked one of the most fashionable neighborhoods in early Savannah, it was renamed in 1883 to honor the Telfair family. It is the only square honoring a family rather than an individual. The Telfairs included former Governor Edward Telfair, Congressman Thomas Telfair (Edward Telfair's son), and his daughter Mary Telfair (1791–1875), benefactor of Savannah's Telfair Museum of Art. The square also contains tributes to the Girl Scouts of the USA, founded by Savannahian Juliette Gordon Low, and to the chambered nautilus.

Bradley Lock and Key, also known as Bradley's Locksmith, is a locksmiths located in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Established in 1883, it is the oldest business in operation in Savannah, and one of the oldest locksmith shops in the country. It has been located at its current address, the Patrick Duffy Building at 24 East State Street, in the northeast tything block of Wright Square, since 1967. The building it occupies was built in 1885.Its owner from the 1950s until 2019 was William Houdini Bradley, known as Dini, whose grandfather, Simon, started the business. His father, Aaron, meanwhile, was a hypnotist who travelled with Houdini, hence William's middle name. A third generation of Bradley family members, William retired in 2019 at the age of 85, at which point he handed the business over to his grandson, 24-year-old Andrew Bradley, extending the business's lifespan to five generations. Andrew and his sister, Caroline, used to work at the shop in the summers of their youth. Dini Bradley's son, Mark, is a Savannah attorney.The shop contains the W. W. Law stools from when it was Levy lunch counter during Savannah's Civil Rights era.

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) is a public school district in Chatham County, Georgia, United States. SCCPSS is run by an elected Board of Public Education and operates most all of the public schools in Chatham County, including those in the city of Savannah. It is the sole public school district in the county. The current superintendent is S. Denise Watts, Ed.D. The district has an enrollment of over 35,925 students and operates 23 elementary schools, eight middle schools, eight K-8 schools, and 11 high schools. It also runs satellite facilities including the Massie Heritage Center (a preserved historic school) and the Oatland Island Wildlife Center (a wildlife refuge and environmental education complex). The school system supports two alternative schools for middle and/or high school students as well as an adult learning center.

Bird Girl is a sculpture made in 1936 by Sylvia Shaw Judson in Lake Forest, Illinois. It was sculpted at Ragdale, her family's summer home, and achieved fame when it was featured on the cover of the 1994 non-fiction novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Originally exhibited as Girl with Bowls at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1938, it was also exhibited as Fountain Figure, Standing Figure, and Peasant Girl. A 1967 book by Judson first referred to it as Bird Girl.
