Battle of Broekhuizen

Broekhuizen is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Horst aan de Maas, and lies about 14 km north of Venlo.

Broekhuizenvorst is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Horst aan de Maas and lies at 18 km north of Venlo. The village was first mentioned in 1294 or 1295 as "apud Vorste", and means "not fenced off forest near Broekhuizen". Broekhuizen was added to distinguish from Grubbenvorst. Broekhuizenvorst developed on the Maas in the Early Middle Ages. It used to be part of the Land van Kessel. In 1323, it became part of the Duchy of Guelders. In 1648, it became part of the Spanish Netherlands. In 1673, it became an independent parish. In 1713, it belonged to Prussia, and finally in 1815, it became part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.The Holy Name of Jesus Church is a short double aisled church. Its existence was already recorded in 1214. In the 13th century, the tower was added. It was enlarged in the 15th century. In 1944, the tower was blown up, and the church was rebuilt between 1948 and 1949.Broekhuizenvorst was home to 436 people in 1840.

Arcen (Dutch: [ˈɑrsə(n)] ; Limburgish: Árse) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. In 2010, it became part of the municipality of Venlo. Previously, it had been part of the municipality of Arcen en Velden and the seat of the town hall (gemeentehuis). In 2001, Arcen had 1884 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.39 km2, and contained 747 residences.In December 2009, the last month before merging with the city of Venlo, the municipality of Arcen en Velden had 8671 inhabitants.Its location on the river Maas (Meuse) makes it a popular tourist attraction. It is wedged in between Germany in the east and the river Maas in the west. National Park de Hamert lies just north of Arcen. Historic buildings include the 'Schanstoren' (Schans Tower) and the castle as well as century old houses in the village itself. The town hall is of a Traditionalist 20th century design by A.J. Kropholler while the church was designed in a similar style by H.W. Valk. Outside the centre are the Hertog Jan beer brewery and the 'De IJsvogel' distillery, which is located in a historic water mill and produces jenever (gin), bitters and liquors. Near Arcen lies the only preserved fortress built to protect the Fossa Eugeniana, a canal built between 1625 and 1629 to connect the rivers Rhine and Maas. Arcen has a thermal bath and various holiday parks. Arcen's 'Kasteeltuinen' (castle gardens) went bankrupt in 2012. Arcen is the birthplace of former Dutch soccer international Stan Valckx.

Hostellerie De Hamert was a restaurant in Wellerlooi in the Netherlands, most famous for its asparagus dishes in spring. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1963 and retained that rating until 1989. GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 12.0 out of 20 points.Former head chef Herman van Ham took care about the kitchen for 39 years. When Bernard Lieftink took over in 1989, the restaurant lost its star.Hostellerie De Hamert is one of the founders and still a member of Alliance Gastronomique Neerlandaise.Hostellerie De Hamert went bankrupt in 2019.

In 1877, Tienray was officially permitted to use the title Klein Lourdes (Little Lourdes) by papal order.
