Compton Creek

Del Amo station is an elevated light rail station on the A Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station is located between Compton Creek and Santa Fe Avenue, and elevated over the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard, after which the station is named, in the Los Angeles County community of Rancho Dominguez and near the city of Carson.Del Amo station provides access to Dignity Health Sports Park (home stadium for the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer) via the Galaxy Express shuttle operated by Long Beach Transit on game days during soccer season. During the 2028 Summer Olympics, the station will serve spectators traveling to and from venues located at the Dignity Health Sports Park, site of the rugby, modern pentathalon, tennis, track cycling, and field hockey competitions.Del Amo is the only elevated A Line station that was not originally built to handle three car trains. The northern end of the platform was lengthened in 2000. The A Line maintenance and storage yard is located between the Wardlow and Del Amo stations.

Leonie Pray House, also known as "Dawson-Pray House," is a Long Beach Historic Landmark located in the Los Cerritos neighborhood of Long Beach, California. Los Cerritos Ranch House, also known as Rancho Los Cerritos or Casa de los Cerritos, in Long Beach, California, was "the largest and most impressive adobe residence erected in southern California during the Mexican period". Los Cerritos means "the little hills" in English. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970.

The communities of unincorporated Rancho Dominguez are: Rancho Dominguez, East Rancho Dominguez, and West Rancho Dominguez. Prior to earlier partitioning, Rancho Dominguez also contained the sites of the cities of Compton, Carson and a portion of North Long Beach.

Wardlow station is an at-grade light rail station on the A Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. The station is located on the A Line's exclusive right-of-way (the historic route of the Pacific Electric Railway) that parallels Pacific Place, at its intersection with Wardlow Street, after which the station is named, in the Wrigley neighborhood of Long Beach, California.The Willow and Wardlow stations are the two A Line stations closest to the Long Beach Airport. The Dominguez Rancho Adobe is California Historical Landmark Number 152, and in 1976 was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. The adobe of Manuel Dominguez, on the Spanish land grant of Rancho San Pedro (re-validated under Mexican rule), was completed in 1826. The home features 2-foot-thick (0.61 m) walls, heavy timbers and a flat, tarred roof. Much of the furniture is original to the Dominguez family.The Friends of Rancho San Pedro operate the adobe ranch home as the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum. The Friends provide guided tours of the house, as well as host many educational programs about ranch life and early California history. The museum's address is 18127 South Alameda Street, Rancho Dominguez, California, an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, located between the cities of Compton, Long Beach and Carson.

The Battle of Dominguez Rancho or The Battle of the Old Woman's Gun or The Battle of Dominguez Hills took place on October 8th and October 9th, 1846, was a military engagement of the Mexican–American War that took place within Manuel Dominguez's 75,000 acre Rancho San Pedro. Captain José Antonio Carrillo, leading fifty California troops, successfully held off an invasion of Pueblo de Los Angeles by some 300 United States Marines, capturing for the first time in the few instances of U.S. history the U.S. Colors upon the battlefield, while under the command of US Navy Captain William Mervine, who was attempting to recapture the town after the Siege of Los Angeles. By strategically running horses across the dusty Dominguez Hills, while transporting their single small cannon to various sites, Carrillo and his troops convinced the Americans they had encountered a large enemy force. Faced with heavy casualties and the superior fighting skills displayed by the Californios, the remaining Marines were forced to retreat to their ships docked in San Pedro Bay.

Lions Drag Strip was an American raceway in the Wilmington district of Los Angeles, California, adjacent to Long Beach that existed from 1955 to 1972. The track was named after its sponsors Lions Clubs International and featured many races that were sanctioned by the American Hot Rod Association (AHRA). As the area surrounding the track increased in population, complaints regarding noise were made to government officials. Subsequently, efforts were made to deny the operators of track continued use of the facility. The track was opened with a 30 days' notice clause that could be enforced at any time, and on November 2, 1972, that notice was given. After the last races took place on December 2, 1972, the track was torn down through the efforts of the Los Angeles Harbor Department to make space for overseas shipping cargo containers which exists to this day at 223rd Street & Alameda Street in Wilmington, CA. The track location remained abandoned for over 10 years until it was developed into the mega container facility by the L.A. Harbor Commission. The 1971/72 noise issue was then and is still seen by many local fans as a political ruse to close the track, although this cannot be substantiated.
