Creston is a census-designated place in San Luis Obispo County, California, about 10 miles east of Atascadero.

El Pomar District is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in San Luis Obispo County, California and within the multi-county Central Coast AVA. It was established on October 8, 2014, by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Treasury after reviewing the petitions submitted in 2007 by the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area Committee (PRAVAC) to establish 11 new viticultural areas located entirely within the existing 669,253 acres (1,046 sq mi) Paso Robles viticultural area adjacent to the northern boundary of San Luis Obispo County. The proposed viticultural areas were: Adelaida District, Creston District, El Pomar District, Paso Robles Estrella District, Paso Robles Geneseo District, Paso Robles Highlands District, Paso Robles Willow Creek District, San Juan Creek, San Miguel District, Santa Margarita Ranch, and Templeton Gap District. El Pomar District viticultural area is located in the central portion of the Paso Robles viticultural area, southeast of the city of Paso Robles. The 21,300 acres (33.3 sq mi) viticultural area extends south between U.S. 101 and communities of Templeton to the west and Creston in the east, and to its southern boundary outlined by SR-41. Currently, El Pomar District has approximately 2,000 acres (810 ha) of vineyards with at least sixteen bonded wineries. The petition also notes that two of the vineyards the viticultural area are named El Pomar Vineyards and Pomar Junction Vineyards.

Creston District is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in the south east portion of the Paso Robles AVA in San Luis Obispo (SLO) County, California. It is located in the vicinity of the small community of Creston, California and was established by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) on November 10, 2014. The Paso Robles Viticultural Area Committee (PRVAC) petitioned TTB to establish 11 new AVAs located entirely within the existing Paso Robles viticultural area.

The Church of Spiritual Technology (CST) is a California 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, incorporated in 1982, which owns all the copyrights of the estate of L. Ron Hubbard and licenses their use. CST does business as L. Ron Hubbard Library. The Church of Spiritual Technology points to Hubbard as the “focal point,” with the structure designed to realize what Scientologists understand to be his vision. The stated purpose of the archive in CST, according to the church is “so that future generations will have available to them all of L. Ron Hubbard’s technology in its exact and original form, no matter what happens to the society.”

Paso Robles is the third American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in San Luis Obispo (SLO) County, California. It was established by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Treasury on November 3, 1983 based on a petition submitted by Martin-Brothers Winery. The area encompasses 609,673 acres (953 sq mi) with approximately 18,500 acres (7,487 ha) cultivated with wine grapes known for their heritage varietal Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rhône-style wines.

Templeton Gap District is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in San Luis Obispo County, California and within the multi-county Central Coast AVA. It was established on October 8, 2014 by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Treasury after reviewing the petitions submitted in 2007 by the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area Committee (PRAVAC) to establish 11 new viticultural areas located entirely within the existing 669,253 acres (1,046 sq mi) Paso Robles viticultural area adjacent to the northern boundary of San Luis Obispo County. The proposed viticultural areas were: Adelaida District, Creston District, El Pomar District, Paso Robles Estrella District, Paso Robles Geneseo District, Paso Robles Highlands District, Paso Robles Willow Creek District, San Juan Creek, San Miguel District, Santa Margarita Ranch, and Templeton Gap District. The "Templeton Gap District" is based on historical and modern name evidence associated with the region where the viticultural area is located. The name combines the town of Templeton with the term "gap," which collectively identifies several erosional landforms located along the crest of the Santa Lucia Range west of the town. Templeton, located between U.S. Route 101 and the Salinas River north of Atascadero and south of Paso Robles, is encircled within the 19,017 acres (29.714 sq mi) viticultural area containing approximately 1,600 acres (647 ha) of vineyards.

Paso Robles Geneseo District is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in San Luis Obispo County, California and within the multi-county Central Coast AVA. It was established on October 8, 2014, by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Treasury after reviewing the petitions submitted in 2007 by the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area Committee (PRAVAC) to establish 11 new viticultural areas located entirely within the existing 669,253 acres (1,046 sq mi) Paso Robles viticultural area adjacent to the northern boundary of San Luis Obispo County. The proposed viticultural areas were: Adelaida District, Creston District, El Pomar District, Paso Robles Estrella District, Paso Robles Geneseo District, Paso Robles Highlands District, Paso Robles Willow Creek District, San Juan Creek, San Miguel District, Santa Margarita Ranch, and Templeton Gap District. Paso Robles Geneseo District viticultural area is located in the central portion of the Paso Robles viticultural area, adjacent to the eastern boundary of the city of Paso Robles and extends east along SR 46 as its northern boundary to terraces along the Estrella River. The 17,300 acres (27.0 sq mi) viticultural area continues to extend on a southeastern diagonal along a portion of Huerhuero Creek bordering the El Pomar District AVA and the northern tip of the Creston District AVA. The name "Geneseo" is recognized as the name of viticultural significance, due to its extensive historical use to the rural community. Locals understand the term "Geneseo" to refer to the area of the Geneseo District.

Bianchi Winery is a winery in Paso Robles, California. The property includes the winery, a tasting room and a vineyard house for guest accommodations, all located among the estate vineyards. Bianchi Winery produces approximately 10,000 cases annually.

Atascadero State Hospital, formally known as California Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (DSHA), is located on the Central Coast of California, in San Luis Obispo County, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. DSHA is an all-male, maximum-security facility, forensic institution that houses mentally ill convicts who have been committed to psychiatric facilities by California's courts. Located on a 700+ acre grounds in the city of Atascadero, California, it is the largest employer in that town. DSHA is not a general purpose public hospital, and the only patients admitted are those that are referred to the hospital by the Superior Court, Board of Prison Terms, or the Department of Corrections.

Rancho Atascadero was a 4,348-acre (17.60 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Luis Obispo County, California. It was granted in 1842 by Governor Juan Alvarado to Trifon Garcia. The grant extended along the Salinas River and encompassed present-day Atascadero.

Rancho Santa Ysabel was a 17,774-acre (7,193 ha) Mexican land grant in present-day San Luis Obispo County, California given in 1844 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to Francisco Arce. The grant was southeast of present-day Paso Robles, between the Salinas River on the west and Huerhuero Creek on the east.
