South Muskham is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England, close to the border with Lincolnshire. It is located west of the River Trent and the A1 road, 2 miles (3 km) north of Newark-upon-Trent. The parish includes the hamlet of Little Carlton. The population of the parish was 494 in the 2011 census.The village lies on the historic route of the A1 Great North Road. When the Newark Bypass was built in 1964, the old Great North Road through the village became the A6065. In 1989 the road south of the village became part of the A616, and the road through the village became the B6325. South of the village the old Great North Road passes over a causeway built in 1770 by John Smeaton, and then crosses the River Trent at Muskham Bridge. St Wilfrid's Church is a Grade I listed building. Parts of the church date back to the 13th century.

Holme is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England. The population of the civil parish (including Langford) at the 2011 Census was 165. It is located on the east of the River Trent, less than half a mile from the riverside and 4 miles north of Newark-on-Trent. The parish church of St Giles is an Early Tudor rebuild of a 13th-century church. The Lancashire wool merchant John Barton was responsible for the rebuilding. He died in 1491, and is buried in the chancel with his wife. In a window of his house at Holme is inscribed the verse: I thanke God, and ever shall, It is the sheep have paid for all.Holme was historically a chapelry in the ancient parish of North Muskham. Until about 1575 it lay on the west side of the River Trent, but there was then a cataclysmic flood which changed the course of the river. Holme was therefore separated by the river from the rest of the parish. In 1866 Holme became a separate civil parish.The last known catch of a sturgeon on the Trent occurred in 1902 near the village, the fish was eight and a half feet long and weighed 250 pounds.

Little Carlton is a hamlet in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England, north-west of Newark-on-Trent. Little Carlton was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086.

Bathley is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England, north-west of Newark-on-Trent. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 246. Bathley is recorded in the Domesday Book as Badeleie.As Bathley does not have a hall of any sort, the Crown Inn public house is used for family parties, christenings and funerals as well as Parish Council meetings. Winthorpe Bridge is a concrete box girder bridge, carrying the A1 road over the River Trent in east Nottinghamshire.

Cromwell is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. It is located 5 miles (8 km) north of Newark. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 188, increasing to 232 at the 2011 Census.St. Giles' Church, Cromwell is 13th century, with a tower built c. 1427. The Old Rectory was built c. 1680 as a dower house for the Earl of Clare, and in use as a rectory before 1714. Between the village and the River Trent lie an extensive area of Roman fields with associated villa. Parts of a timber and stone bridge have also been recorded close by.Cromwell is one of the four Thankful Villages in Nottinghamshire – those rare places that suffered no fatalities during the Great War of 1914 to 1918. Just to the east of the village is Cromwell Lock the point where the non-tidal River Trent ends and the so-called Tideway starts. From Cromwell lock commercial traffic and pleasure craft may navigate north towards Torksey Gainsborough and ultimately the Trent Falls where the River Trent meets the Yorkshire Ouse and becomes the Humber. Navigators on the Trent must wait till the tide is ebbing or flooding in their favour to ensure a safe and efficient passage.

Newark flat crossing is the last remaining flat railway crossing on the Network Rail network in the United Kingdom where two standard gauge lines intersect. It is located to the north of Newark Northgate station. It is the point where the Nottingham to Lincoln Line intersects with the East Coast Main Line.On 4 October 1852 a Great Northern train collided with a Midland train which was on the crossing. The Great Northern engine No. 204 driven by William Lightfoot heading north struck the third wagon from the end of the Midland train. The three wagons of the Midland train left the line and ended up in water at the bottom of the embankment. Three passenger coaches from the Great Northern train were also derailed and several passengers were injured. The guard of the Midland train was severely injured and taken to the Lion and Adder Public House in Newark for surgical treatment. There have been numerous proposals to replace it with a grade separation, none of which have been implemented. A geographical constraint is the proximity of the site to the River Trent which is crossed by a bridge immediately to the north of the junction.It is renewed about every 16 years, most recently in May 1986, August 2003 and August 2019. During the August 2019 renewal the wooden bearers were replaced with Fiber Form Urethane (FFU) which is expected to have a 30-40 year working life.

Winthorpe is a village located 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire, England. The population at the 2011 census was 650. The name is probably from old English wynne þrop (thorp), hamlet of joy. Winthorpe has a village hall, a local pub called the Lord Nelson and a community centre where the events range from a monthly lunch club to an annual Bonfire night celebration. Winthorpe also has a long-standing cricket tradition and has been the home to Winthorpe Cricket Club since 1887.All Saints' Church, Winthorpe is the Church of England parish church in the village. Newark Air Museum is an air museum located on the former Royal Air Force station, RAF Winthorpe. The airfield was mainly used for training Lancaster crews.
