Great Coxwell

Great Coxwell Barn is a Medieval tithe barn at Great Coxwell, Oxfordshire (formerly Berkshire), England. It is on the northern edge of the village of Great Coxwell, which is about 9 miles (14 km) northeast of Swindon in neighbouring Wiltshire. The barn was built about 1292 for the Cistercian Beaulieu Abbey in Hampshire, which had held the manor of Great Coxwell since 1205. Since 1956 it has been in the care of the National Trust. The barn has been a Grade I listed building since 1966 and is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Little Coxwell is a village and civil parish in South East England, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of Faringdon and 0.8 miles (1.3 km) east of Great Coxwell. Little Coxwell was part of Berkshire until the 1974 local government boundary changes transferred the Vale of White Horse to Oxfordshire. Cistercian monks of Beaulieu Abbey built the Church of England parish church of Saint Mary in the 12th century as a chapel of ease. Little Coxwell was a dependent chapelry of the ecclesiastical parish of Great Faringdon. In 1866 the civil parish was established. The village has a public house, the Eagle Tavern. The Hurlingham Polo Association, the governing body for polo in the UK, Ireland, and many other countries, has its office at Manor Farm, Little Coxwell.

Badbury Hill is a hill in the civil parish of Great Coxwell near Faringdon in the English county of Oxfordshire. In 1974 it was transferred from Berkshire. The summit of the hill is the site of an Iron Age hill fort known as Badbury Camp. It is roughly circular in shape, most of which was levelled early in the 19th century. It has been suggested as a possible site of the 5th or 6th century Battle of Mons Badonicus, where King Arthur defeated the Anglo-Saxons. On the west side of Badbury Hill is believed to be a World War II firing range, used by the Auxillary Unity based at Coleshill House as a training firing range. It is now a wooded area, known locally as Badbury Clump, of roughly nine acres, swathed in bluebells in May and is a well-frequented local recreation area, for walkers and dog-owners. It is now in the care of the National Trust.It is also frequented by mountain boarders and bikers who use the downhill course built into the side of the hill. This is maintained and improved by local mountain-board club MEBA with the permission of the Forestry Commission.

Faringdon Community College is an 11 to 18 mixed comprehensive school on the edge of Faringdon, a market town in Oxfordshire, England. The college has a specialist status in Engineering. Tollington Secondary Modern School moved to the present site in Fernham Road in 1962, and was renamed Faringdon Community College in 2003. In 2012 it became part of the Faringdon Academy of Schools along with Faringdon Infant School and Faringdon Junior School.

Longcot is a village and civil parish in the Vale of White Horse District. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The village is about 3 miles (5 km) south of Faringdon and about 2.5 miles (4 km) northeast of Shrivenham. The A420 road between Swindon and Oxford passes through the parish 1 mile (1.6 km) northwest of the village. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 617.

The civil parish is formally known as Great Faringdon, to distinguish it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census gave a population of 7,121; it was estimated at 7,992 in 2019. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon became the first place in south-east England to be awarded Fairtrade Town status.

Longworth Hospital was a 50 bedded geriatric hospital in Faringdon Oxfordshire, England. It was administered by the Littlemore and Isis hospital management committees, and then from 1974 by Oxfordshire Area Health Authority.From December 1980 to February 1981 it was occupied by the staff, principally members of COHSE resisting the closure of the hospital.

Fernham is a village and civil parish about 2 miles (3 km) south of Faringdon in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Fernham was historically part of the parish of Shrivenham. It was within Berkshire until the 1974 local authority boundary changes transferred the Vale of White Horse to Oxfordshire.

Faringdon Abbey was a Cistercian abbey located at Wyke just north of the small town of Faringdon in the English county of Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). The Royal manor of Faringdon was given to the Cistercian monks by King John in 1203 for the founding of an abbey. It was built at Wyke, a lost placename that was located just north of the town between the Radcot Road and Grove Wood. It was almost certainly never finished, for the abbey moved to Beaulieu in the New Forest in the following year. Faringdon, however, remained under the monks' control and the abbey site became one of their monastic granges.
