WHNO

WWNO (89.9 MHz) is a public, non-commercial FM radio station in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is owned by the University of New Orleans, offering a news and information radio format with some jazz programs on weekends. Studios and offices are located on the fourth floor of the UNO library. The transmitter is off Behrman Highway in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans.WWNO also operates a 24-hour classical music service, "Classical 104.9 FM," on 250 watt FM translator K285FF in Metarie and simulcast in Thibodaux, Louisiana, on KTLN at 90.5 MHz, one of the few dedicated classical stations in the South. WWNO broadcasts in the HD Radio hybrid format. Its HD2 subchannel carries "Classical 104.9 FM." The HD3 subchannel plays jazz music.

WBSN-FM is a Contemporary Christian outlet in New Orleans, Louisiana. The station, which operates at 89.1 MHz with an ERP of 11 kW, is owned by Providence Educational Foundation, which signed the outlet on the air in 1979.

WQUE-FM (93.3 FM, "Q93.3") is a Mainstream Urban radio outlet in New Orleans, Louisiana. The station, which is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., operates at 93.3 MHz with an ERP of 100 kW. Its current slogan is "#1 for Hip-Hop & R&B". Its transmitter is located in New Orleans' Algiers district, and its studios are located downtown. WQUE was originally WDSU-FM, the FM sister of WDSU-TV until 1971, when it was sold to new owners who turned it into an AC format. By the early 1980s, WQUE-FM switched to a Top 40/CHR format and adopted the "Q93" handle, which they continue with today after they evolved to its current format in 1992. WQUE is one of the most popular stations among African-American youth in the New Orleans area. From 2006 to 2014, it was the home of the Steve Harvey Morning Show, which now airs on sister WYLD-FM (which formerly aired Tom Joyner). In January 2014, it became the home of The Breakfast Club.

WYLD-FM (98.5 MHz) is a commercial radio station in New Orleans, Louisiana, and one of the highest-rated radio stations in the market. It airs an urban adult contemporary radio format and is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The studios and offices are located in Downtown New Orleans. It carries the syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show weekdays from co-owned Premiere Networks. WYLD-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts. The transmitter is on Behrman Highway in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans.

DeGaulle Manor was a federally subsidized public housing project in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans. The complex had a high crime rate and was one of the oldest and most troubled apartments in the city before being shut down in 2012. It later became a dumping ground for trash and in 2014, became a work of art as it was transformed into a graffiti display.

The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) governs the public school system that serves New Orleans, Louisiana. It includes the entirety of Orleans Parish, coterminous with New Orleans.The OPSB directly administers 6 schools and has granted charters to another 18. Though the Orleans Parish School Board has retained ownership of all the assets of the New Orleans Public Schools system, including all school buildings, approximately 93% of students attending publicly-funded schools post-Katrina in Orleans Parish attended charter schools.Schools previously operating under the Recovery School District umbrella within Orleans Parish after Katrina were, as of the fall of 2014, publicly funded and privately operated charter schools. The RSD returned all its schools to the OPSB in 2018. The headquarters of the OPSB is in the West Bank neighborhood of Algiers.

WWWL (1350 AM, "The Bet New Orleans") is a commercial radio station in New Orleans, Louisiana. Owned by Audacy, Inc., it broadcasts a sports gambling format. The station's studios are located at the 400 Poydras Tower in Downtown New Orleans. Its transmitter site is in Algiers, near the city limits of Gretna and Terrytown. The station operates at 5,000 watts during the day and 480 watts at night, using a non-directional antenna. The station is simulcast on FM translator station W225CZ (92.9 FM).

Algiers is a historic neighborhood of New Orleans and is the only Orleans Parish community located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River. Algiers is known as the 15th Ward, one of the 17 Wards of New Orleans. It was once home to many jazz musicians and is also the second oldest neighborhood in the city.

Oakwood Center is a major shopping mall in Terrytown, Louisiana, on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in the New Orleans metropolitan area. It was originally named "Oakwood Mall", and some signage and local usage continue to call it that. It is geographically in Terrytown, but the mailing address is adjacent Gretna, Louisiana. The anchor stores are Dick's Sporting Goods, Old Navy, Shoe Dept. Encore, JCPenney, and Dillard's. There is 1 vacant anchor store that was once Sears. "Oakwood Mall" opened in 1966, taking advantage of the increased development on the West Bank following the opening of the Crescent City Connection. One of the former anchor stores was D. H. Holmes. It was replaced by a Dillard's store in 1992, and then by Marshalls. Oakwood Center fell victim to significant damage in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The mall was heavily looted and set on fire on August 31, 2005. Nearly 80% of the stores experienced fire or water damage. The main shopping area was closed during demolition and construction. Two department stores, Sears and Dillard's, along with Dollar Tree, Foot Locker, and the Bank of Louisiana reopened before the entire mall reopened. Oakwood Center completely reopened on October 19, 2007, except for the Mervyns wing. Forever 21 and Shoe Department Encore replaced the Marshalls. In 2013, it was confirmed that the Mervyn's wing would be torn down for Dick's Sporting Goods.After renovations, the center includes three sit-down restaurants; over 360,000 square feet (33,000 m2) of floor space boasting over 80 specialty shops (regional and national retailers); and a 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m2) food pavilion. On January 5, 2017, it was announced that Sears would be closing as part of a plan to close 104 stores nationwide. The store closed in March 2017.

Behrman also known as "Behrman Heights," is a crime-ridden low income community located in Algiers, New Orleans It was named after popular New Orleans mayor Martin Behrman, and is nestled south of the US Naval Support neighborhood and north of Tall Timbers/Brechtel, flanked on the west by Fischer Housing Development and Whitney, and on the east by Old Aurora.

Terrytown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is on the "Westbank" (to the south) of the Mississippi River. It is a suburb within the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner metropolitan statistical area. The population was 23,319 at the 2010 census, and 25,278 in 2020.Terrytown was opened to a media tour on March 5, 1960, showcasing the newest of concepts in home construction at the time, with the original homes having all plumbing in one wall. The community was opened to the public and considered founded on March 6, 1960, by subdivision developer Paul Kapelow, who named the town after his first daughter, Terry Kapelow. Terrytown includes Oakwood Center, a major shopping mall in the New Orleans metropolitan area.

Brechtel Park is a 120 acre urban park in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans. The park was founded in 1971 using funds from the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, and is maintained by the New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways. Brechtel is a stop on the Barataria Loop of America’s Wetlands Birding Trail.The Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism lists the birds living in or seasonally visiting the park as including: great blue, little blue, and green herons; great and snowy egrets; yellow-crowned night herons; white ibis; wood ducks; tree swallows; Mississippi kites; red-shouldered hawks; broad-winged hawks; mourning doves; yellow-billed cuckoos; barred owls; eastern screech owls; red-bellied, downy, hairy, and pileated woodpeckers; great crested flycatchers; white-eyed, yellow-throated, red-eyed, and blue-headed vireos; blue jays; barn swallows; Carolina wrens; Carolina chickadees; tufted titmice; summer tanagers; northern cardinals; sharp-shinned hawks; yellow-bellied sapsuckers; northern flickers; eastern phoebes; golden-crowned and ruby-crowned kinglets; hermit thrush; cedar waxwings; orange-crowned and yellow-rumped warblers; and white-throated sparrows.
