The CDP is located within Bedford Township. The community was established as early as 1859. NorthTowne Square, briefly known as Lakeside Centre, was a shopping mall in Toledo, Ohio developed by Simon Property Group.The three-anchor tenant mall opened in 1981 near the Ohio-Michigan border in anticipation of a home construction boom on the Michigan side, but faced serious business problems by the early 2000s. Simon put the mall up for sale in 1999 and sold the property in 2002. The mall closed in 2005, city government acquired the building in 2011 and demolished it in 2013.In 2021, the City of Toledo announced the site would be sold to NorthPoint Development with intentions to build a $70 million industrial park with a spring 2022 groundbreaking.

Whitmer High School is a public high school in Toledo, Ohio, named for John Wallace Whitmer, an educator who helped organize high school classes for the area. It is the only high school in the Washington Local School District in Lucas County, Ohio, serving the northwest section of Toledo up to the Michigan state line. It is the largest high school in the Toledo area. Roy C. Start High School is the largest comprehensive public high school in Toledo, Ohio, United States. The school opened in 1962 and is part of the Toledo Public Schools. It was named after Roy C. Start, two-time mayor of Toledo and founder of the West Toledo YMCA. The school building was demolished and replaced with a new building. Students have been attending the new Start since January 2008. The only part of the original Roy C. Start High School building in use is the auditorium (which is now in the West Toledo YMCA building) and is attached to the new building.
