Kněževes (Prague-West District)

Aeroflot Flight 141 was an international flight from Moscow to Prague. On 19 February 1973, the Tupolev Tu-154 crashed 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi; 0.81 nmi) short of runway 25 (now runway 24) of Prague Ruzyně Airport (now Václav Havel Airport Prague). Most of the passengers survived the crash, but many died in the fire that followed. Out of the 87 passengers and 13 crew members, 62 passengers and 4 crew members perished with 18 occupants having serious injuries and the remaining 16 with either minor or no injuries. The crash was the first loss of and first fatal accident involving the Tu-154.The cause of the incident was not officially determined. The crew did not report any defects or troubles between the ATC frequencies. One theory stated wind shear, while another theory was that the pilots incorrectly set a horizontal stabilizer, yet another stated on unexpected atmospheric turbulence. The investigation of the accident also showed that controlling of the stabilizers was complicated. This was solved when the Tu-154 aircraft was being modernized to the Tu-154A.

Václav Havel Airport Prague, formerly Prague Ruzyně International Airport (IATA: PRG, ICAO: LKPR), is an international airport of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The airport was founded in 1937, when it replaced the Kbely Airport (founded in 1918). It was reconstructed and extended in 1956, 1968, 1997, and 2006. In 2012, it was renamed after the last president of Czechoslovakia and the first president of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel. It is located at the edge of the Prague-Ruzyně area, next to Kněževes village, 12 km (7 mi) west of the centre of Prague and 12 km (7 mi) southeast of the city of Kladno. In 2018, it served around 17 million passengers. It serves as a hub for Czech Airlines and Smartwings, and as a base for Ryanair and Eurowings.

Okoř is a castle on a low rocky promontory in Okoř, north-west of Prague, about 15 kilometres (9 mi) from the city centre, in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. In 1228 a stronghold was built in the small hamlet of Okoř. It was later modified into a Gothic castle, founded in 1359 by Frantisek Rokyčansky, a wealthy burgher of Prague's Old Town. It was later modified by comprehensive Late Gothic remodelling by the Lords of Donin. In 1518, during the reign of Bořitas of Martinice, the castle was turned into a residence in the Renaissance style. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was heavily damaged and then restored in the Baroque style. It underwent further extension in the second half of the 15th century, and in the 17th century it was owned by Jesuits. Following their departure after the Jesuit order was discontinued in Bohemia, the Okoř castle became deserted in the late 18th century and slowly began to deteriorate.
