Marlborough Rural District was a rural district in the county of Wiltshire, England. It surrounded the town and municipal borough of Marlborough. In 1934 it merged with the Ramsbury Rural District to form Marlborough and Ramsbury Rural District.

The Devil's Den or Devil's Den is a dolmen burial chamber on Fyfield Hill near Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. The chamber is part of a neolithic passage grave on Fyfield Down. Two standing stones, a capstone and two fallen stones are all that remain of what was the entrance to a long mound, described in the 1920s as being around 230 ft long (70 metres). The capstone is believed to weigh 17 tons. The burial chamber was reconstructed in 1921.The dolmen was named after the devil, along with many other prehistoric remains, after the coming of Christianity. A local tradition said that if water was poured into hollows on the capstone, a demon would come in the night and drink it.

Clatford is a small hamlet (formerly a village) approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the village of Manton and about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Marlborough, which is the nearest town, in Wiltshire, England. It is just south of the River Kennet and the A4 primary route. Early in the 12th century, Clatford manor was given to the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Victor-en-Caux (Saint-Victor-l'Abbaye, Seine-Maritime) together with land at Hullavington, some 18 miles (29 km) to the northwest. The small Clatford Priory, at times called Hullavington Priory, continued until the 15th century.In the 14th century Clatford was comparable in size with the neighbouring village of Manton; in 1801 there were 122 inhabitants. Today Clatford is a rural community made up of Clatford Hall with Clatford Farm, several houses clustered around a crossroads and several other houses spread further out. Clatford Hall dates from the later 16th century and is Grade II* listed.Clatford is in the civil parish of Preshute.

Manton is a small village in Wiltshire, England, on the western outskirts of Marlborough just off the A4 Bath Road.

Fyfield is a village and civil parish in the English county of Wiltshire, in the Kennet Valley about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) west of Marlborough. The village is on the A4 road which was historically the main route from London to the west of England.

Lockeridge is a village in Wiltshire, England. It lies at the edge of the West Woods in the Kennet Valley, 2.9 miles (4.7 km) west of Marlborough, 3.1 miles (5.0 km) east of Avebury and 10.5 miles (16.9 km) south of Swindon. It is 0.6 miles (0.97 km) south of the A4 road which was historically the main route from London to the west of England. Lockeridge Dene is a hamlet immediately southwest of the village. Lockeridge and its surroundings have provided evidence of Stone and Bronze Age activity in the area. Field enclosures close to the village indicate Roman occupation, whilst the village itself appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. Lockeridge today forms an agricultural and commuter community with no local industry. The community is served by a village pub, the Who'd a Thought It, but has no other services.

Piggledene (grid reference SU141689) is a 4.7 hectare biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Wiltshire, notified in 1965. Since 1908 it has been owned by the National Trust.

Marlborough Mound is a Neolithic monument in the town of Marlborough in the English county of Wiltshire. Standing 19 metres (60 ft) tall, it is second only to the nearby Silbury Hill in terms of height for such a monument. Modern study situates the construction date around 2400 BC. It was first listed as a Scheduled Monument in 1951.Marlborough Mound is part of a complex of Neolithic monuments in this area, which includes the Avebury Ring, Silbury Hill, and the West Kennet Long Barrow. It is close to the confluence of the River Kennet and lies within the grounds of Marlborough College. Thus it is on private property, unlike other comparable archaeological sites in Wiltshire.Since construction, the mound has functioned as the motte for a Norman Castle, a garden feature for a stately home, and the site for a water tower within Marlborough College. Today, only the earthworks remain; at its base is a grotto which was part of an 18th-century water feature. In recent years there has been renewed interest in the site pertaining to its restoration and preservation as a culturally and historically significant site in Wiltshire. Additionally, its relation to the nearby Silbury Hill has generated scholarly interest in how the mound constitutes part of a larger archaeological complex in Wiltshire.

Marlborough Castle, locally known and recorded in historical documents as The Mound, was an 11th-century royal castle located in the civil parish of Marlborough, a market town in the English county of Wiltshire, on the Old Bath Road, the old main road from London to Bath (grid reference SU18376866). The barrow on which the fortification was built, perhaps the "barrow of Maerla", seems to be a prehistoric earthwork which formed the motte of the Norman Marlborough Castle. It survives as a tree-covered mound known as Marlborough Mound, within the site of Marlborough College.

Marlborough College is a public school (English fee-charging boarding and day school) for pupils aged 13 to 18 in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. Founded in 1843 for the sons of Church of England clergy, it is now co-educational. For the academic year 2015/16, Marlborough charged £9,610 per term for day pupils, making it the most expensive day school in the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC) – the association of British independent schools.The Good Schools Guide described Marlborough as a "famous, designer label, co-ed boarding school still riding high." The school is a member of the G20 Schools Group. A sister school in Johor, Malaysia, opened in 2012.

Ogbourne Maizey is a hamlet in Wiltshire, England 1.6 miles (2.6 km) north of the town of Marlborough and 0.4 miles (0.64 km) south of the village of Ogbourne St. Andrew. The hamlet is in the civil parish of Ogbourne St. Andrew, on the banks of the River Og. A map of 1773 shows an almost continuous ribbon of buildings along the river between Ogbourne Maizey and Ogbourne St. Andrew. Today the hamlet consists of commuter housing and racehorse stables on the narrow road that leads over the downs to Rockley. Local primary-level children usually go to the school in Ogbourne St. George or to Marlborough. The hamlet has no church but is part of the Ridgeway Benefice that also includes Rockley, Ogbourne St. Andrew, Ogbourne St. George and Chiseldon. The 10,894 square feet (1,012.1 m2) Ogbourne Maisey House dates from the 16th century and is Grade II* listed.
