Ogbourne Maizey

Ogbourne St Andrew is a civil parish and small village in Wiltshire, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Marlborough. The parish is on the banks of the River Og and includes the hamlets of Ogbourne Maizey and Rockley.

St Mary's Church is the Church of England parish church in the town of Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. The church stands at the east end of the town's High Street. Founded in the 12th century, it was partly rebuilt after a fire of 1653, and extended in 1874. It is a Grade I listed building.

Marlborough Town Hall is a municipal building in the High Street in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. The structure, which is the meeting place of Marlborough Town Council, is a Grade II listed building.

Ogbourne Priory was a priory in Wiltshire, England, from the 12th century until the early 15th. There may have been a priory building in the 13th century, perhaps attached to the manor house at either Ogbourne St Andrew or Ogbourne St George; both manors belonged to the Benedictine order of Bec Abbey, Normandy. Later the priory existed only as a legal name for the administration of the Bec estates in England. The last Prior of Ogbourne, William de St. Vaast, died in 1404 or 1405 and the properties were dispersed.

Marlborough and Ramsbury was a rural district in Wiltshire, England from 1935 to 1974. It was formed by a County Review Order in 1935 as a merger of the Marlborough Rural District and the Ramsbury Rural District. It entirely surrounded the municipal borough of Marlborough. In 1974, it was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972, becoming part of the new Kennet district. In 1945 the council bought a large Georgian house called Axholme House at 47 London Road in Marlborough and converted it to become its headquarters. The council remained based there until its abolition in 1974.

The River Og is a short river in Wiltshire, England. It rises near the hamlet of Draycot Foliat, and flows south for about 3.1 km (1.9 miles) through Ogbourne St George, Ogbourne St Andrew and Ogbourne Maizey to the eastern edge of Marlborough, where it joins the River Kennet.The river flows through a gap in the Marlborough Downs, which creates a natural transport route, now followed by the A346 and once used by the Midland and South Western Junction Railway. The Og's name is a back-formation from Ogbourne, which itself means Occa's stream.

Marlborough Castle, locally known and recorded in historical documents as The Mound, was an 11th-century royal castle located in the civil parish of Marlborough, a market town in the English county of Wiltshire, on the Old Bath Road, the old main road from London to Bath (grid reference SU18376866). The barrow on which the fortification was built, perhaps the "barrow of Maerla", seems to be a prehistoric earthwork which formed the motte of the Norman Marlborough Castle. It survives as a tree-covered mound known as Marlborough Mound, within the site of Marlborough College.

Marlborough Mound is a Neolithic monument in the town of Marlborough in the English county of Wiltshire. Standing 19 metres (60 ft) tall, it is second only to the nearby Silbury Hill in terms of height for such a monument. Modern study situates the construction date around 2400 BC. It was first listed as a Scheduled Monument in 1951.Marlborough Mound is part of a complex of Neolithic monuments in this area, which includes the Avebury Ring, Silbury Hill, and the West Kennet Long Barrow. It is close to the confluence of the River Kennet and lies within the grounds of Marlborough College. Thus it is on private property, unlike other comparable archaeological sites in Wiltshire.Since construction, the mound has functioned as the motte for a Norman Castle, a garden feature for a stately home, and the site for a water tower within Marlborough College. Today, only the earthworks remain; at its base is a grotto which was part of an 18th-century water feature. In recent years there has been renewed interest in the site pertaining to its restoration and preservation as a culturally and historically significant site in Wiltshire. Additionally, its relation to the nearby Silbury Hill has generated scholarly interest in how the mound constitutes part of a larger archaeological complex in Wiltshire.

Founded in 1843 for the sons of Church of England clergy, it is now co-educational. For the academic year 2015/16, Marlborough charged £9,610 per term for day pupils, making it the most expensive day school in the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC) – the association of British independent schools.The Good Schools Guide described Marlborough as a "famous, designer label, co-ed boarding school still riding high." The school is a member of the G20 Schools Group. A sister school in Johor, Malaysia, opened in 2012.

St John's Marlborough (formerly St John's School and Community College) is a mixed secondary school with academy status in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England, for students aged 11 to 18. The school opened in 1975 and is in the south of the town. As of November 2023 it has 1,728 pupils.
