The Ghislenghien disaster was an explosion of a natural gas pipeline in Ghislenghien (a village in the municipality of Ath, Belgium) on July 30, 2004. It was caused by a natural gas leak resulting from by damage from a construction vehicle. The explosion and fire killed 24 people (primarily first responders) and injured 132. It was the worst industrial disaster in Belgium since the 1956 Marcinelle mining disaster and is one of the worst peacetime disasters in the country's history. The disaster led to a reform of the civil security service in Belgium.

The Mark (Dutch) or Marcq (French) is a river in Belgium, right tributary of the Dender. It rises around 5 kilometres (3 mi) south-west of Enghien, Hainaut, close to the village St-Marcou in the forests of Bois de Ligne en Bois d'Enghien. It passes through the homonymous village Marcq, Enghien, Herne, Tollembeek, Galmaarden, Vollezele, Bever, Moerbeke and Viane. The Mark flows into the Dender in Deux-Acres, between Lessines and Geraardsbergen. The Dender is a tributary of the Scheldt. The Mark is approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) long.

Deux-Acren is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Lessines, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium.

The municipality consists of the following districts: Bois-de-Lessines, Deux-Acren, Ghoy, Lessines, Ogy, Ollignies, Papignies, and Wannebecq. Lessines is a municipality of Picardy Wallonia. It is primarily known as the birthplace of the Surrealist painter René Magritte (1898 – 1967).

The municipality only comprises the town of Bever proper. It is located in the Pajottenland. It is located at 50°43′N 3°56′E. On January 1, 2018, Bever had a total population of 2,204. The total area is 19.78 km² which gives a population density of 111 inhabitants per km². It is a Dutch-speaking village with language facilities for French-speakers.

Viane is a village in the Geraardsbergen municipality of the East Flanders province in the Flemish Community of Belgium. The village is situated in the Denderstreek in the south east of the province, on the border with Flemish Brabant and Hainaut. The river Mark separates the village from the rest of Geraardsbergen.

The municipality comprises the city of Geraardsbergen proper and the following towns: Goeferdinge, Grimminge, Idegem, Moerbeke, Nederboelare, Nieuwenhove, Onkerzele, Ophasselt, Overboelare, Schendelbeke, Smeerebbe-Vloerzegem, Viane, Waarbeke, Zandbergen and Zarlardinge.In 2021, Geraardsbergen had a total population of 33,970. The total area is 79.71 km².The current mayor of Geraardsbergen is Ann Panis, from the (liberal) party Open VLD.

The Muur van Geraardsbergen (English: Wall of Geraardsbergen/Grammont, French: Mur de Grammont) is a steep, narrow road with cobblestones in Geraardsbergen, Belgium. It is also known as Kapelmuur, Muur-Kapelmuur or simply Muur. The hill starts near the river Dender at 18 m and reaches the top of the Oudenberg at 110 m after 1,075 m at 9.3 per cent. This climb is often part of the Tour of Flanders professional cycling race.

Boelare Castle is a castle near the village Nederboelare, Geraardsbergen municipality, in the province of East Flanders, Belgium. It used to be the seat of the feudal domain Land and Barony of Boelare. The oldest recording of the name Boelare dates back to the 11th century, but the domain is probably older.Some indications point to a first castle in Boelare in the 9th century. However, the structure of the current castle buildings dates back to 1605. On 1 July 1987 the castle was classified as an important national treasure by the Belgian government. In 1983, the buildings were renovated, and are currently housing a home for elderly people.
