The Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (CMBV - Centre of Baroque Music Versailles) is a centre for the study and performance of French Baroque music, based at the Menus-Plaisirs du Roi. It was founded by Philippe Beaussant and Vincent Berthier de Lioncourt, who were entrusted with the task of founding a musical establishment at Versailles by the French Ministry of Culture in 1987. It opened in 1988 (with Beaussant as its first artistic advisor and de Lioncourt its first director), and an adult choir and children's choir (Les Chantres and Les Pages respectively) were added in the following two years. It has since 1996 been based in the Hôtel des Menus-Plaisirs at the Palace.

Its population was 267,033 in 2018, of which 85,205 in Versailles proper.

The canton of Versailles-2 is an administrative division of the Yvelines department, northern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Versailles.It consists of the following communes: Buc Jouy-en-Josas Les Loges-en-Josas Vélizy-Villacoublay Versailles (partly) Viroflay

Square des Francine is a public park created from a former watering pool for horses, situated at the edge of the Avenue de Sceaux in Versailles, France. In 2016 the pool was transformed into a geometrical shrubbery park with a playground for children around a fountain.The Francines were the family who over several generations created and oversaw the hydraulic system that ran the many fountains in the garden of Versailles during the 17th and 18th centuries. The newly created fountain is named in their honour.

Versailles Château Rive Gauche station is a terminal railway station serving the city of Versailles, a wealthy suburb located west of Paris, France. The station is located at the western end of the Rive Gauche railway (English: Left Bank), named because it operates on the left bank of the Seine. The station is the closest to the Palace of Versailles. The station is operated by SNCF, the French national railway. It is served by RER C line of the Paris Region's express suburban rail system, the Réseau Express Régional. In February 2012, "Château" was added to the station name to help navigate tourists to the station closest to the Château de Versailles (English: Palace of Versailles). The station is one of several in Versailles, but sees fewer trains than Versailles Chantiers station.

Versailles Chantiers station is the principal railway station serving the city of Versailles, a wealthy suburb located west of Paris, France. The station is located at the junction of the Paris–Brest railway and the Grande Ceinture line. The "Chantiers" in the station name comes from its location on the Rue des Chantiers. The station is operated by SNCF, the French national railway. It is served by TGV inOui and the Ouigo Train Classique service, along with several regional train networks, including the RER C, Transilien lines N, U, and V, along with the TER Centre-Val de Loire and TER Normandie networks.The station is one of several in Versailles but is not as close to the Palace of Versailles as the Versailles Château Rive Gauche station.

The proclamation of the German Empire, also known as the Deutsche Reichsgründung, took place in January 1871 after the joint victory of the German states in the Franco-Prussian War. As a result of the November Treaties of 1870, the southern German states of Baden, Hesse-Darmstadt, with their territories south of the Main line, Württemberg and Bavaria, joined the Prussian-dominated "North German Confederation" on 1 January 1871. On the same day, the new Constitution of the German Confederation came into force, thereby significantly extending the federal German lands to the newly created German Empire. The Day of the founding of the German Empire, January 18, became a day of celebration, marking when the Prussian King William I was proclaimed German Emperor at the Palace of Versailles.

According to the 2017 census, the population of the city is 85,862 inhabitants, down from a peak of 94,145 in 1975.A new town founded at the will of King Louis XIV, Versailles was the de facto capital of the Kingdom of France for over a century, from 1682 to 1789, before becoming the cradle of the French Revolution. After having lost its status as a royal city, it became the préfecture (regional capital) of the Seine-et-Oise département in 1790, then of Yvelines in 1968. It is also a Roman Catholic diocese. Versailles is historically known for numerous treaties such as the Treaty of Paris, which ended the American Revolution, and the Treaty of Versailles, after World War I. Today, the Congress of France – the name given to the body created when both houses of the French Parliament, the National Assembly and the Senate, meet – gathers in the Château de Versailles to vote on revisions to the Constitution.
