Street Farmhouse is a historic building in Glaisdale, a valley in North Yorkshire, in England. The farmhouse was built in 1749, and is described by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England as "perhaps the earliest freestanding centralised plan yeoman farmhouse in the region". It originally had mullioned windows, a late example of the technique, although many were replaced by sash windows in the 19th century. The building was grade II* listed in 1969, along with its outbuildings. The farmhouse is built of sandstone on a plinth, with quoins, a floor band, a coved cornice, and a purple slate roof with stone copings and kneelers. It has two storeys and is three bays wide. The central doorway has a chamfered surround, alternating -block jambs, and a keystone flanked by incised scrolls. Above it is a round-headed window with a fluted keystone and moulded imposts. Elsewhere, some three-light chamfered and mullioned windows survive. To the left is a two-storey outhouse, and beyond is a lower stable with two doors. Inside, there is a wide central passageway through the whole depth of the building, containing an early staircase. Many original moulded beams and joists are visible on the ground floor, while in the ground floor left-hand room, there is a stone fire hood with columns.

Duck Bridge is a historic bridge in Danby, North Yorkshire, a village in England. The structure, which was formerly known as Danby Castle Bridge, crosses the River Esk, half a mile north of Danby Castle. Its original date of construction is uncertain, but the Victoria County History suggests that it dates from the 14th century. In 1717, the bridge was largely rebuilt by George Duck, for a payment of £10 7s 6d. It then gradually became known by Duck's name. In 2008, the buttresses were rebuilt, and the road was resurfaced in tarmac, which proved controversial. The bridge has been grade II* listed since 1969. The bridge is built of sandstone, and is hump-backed with a single round arch. The bridge has voussoirs, an arch ring, and peaked parapets with rounded coping. There are stepped abutments at the northwest and southeast corners, and large stepped end buttresses.

Danby is a railway station on the Esk Valley Line, which runs between Middlesbrough and Whitby via Nunthorpe. The station, situated 15 miles 9 chains (24.3 km) west of Whitby, serves the villages of Ainthorpe and Danby, Scarborough in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

According to the 2011 UK census, Danby parish had a population of 1,411, a reduction on the 2001 UK census figure of 1,515. The statistician Karl Pearson spent a lot of time there.Danby is located within the North York Moors National Park and is home to the Moors National Park Centre.Danby is served by a rail network between Middlesbrough and Whitby as well as East Yorkshire's summer seasonal Moors Explorer bus which links Danby and the surrounding villages with Malton, Beverley and Hull. Danby village incorporates the Duke of Wellington pub and the neighbouring post office. The village lies on the Esk Valley Walk. The civil parish includes Ainthorpe, Botton, Castleton, Commondale, Danby, Fryup and Westerdale.

Houlsyke is a hamlet in the Glaisdale civil parish, in North Yorkshire, England. It is situated between Danby and Lealholm.

Castleton is a village on the River Esk, part of the civil parish of Danby in the county of North Yorkshire in England. It can be found 7.1 miles (11.5 km) south-east of Guisborough, in the North York Moors. There was once a medieval castle sited on Castle Hill that is thought to have been abandoned when Danby Castle was constructed.Castleton has a local school, church and two public houses, as well as a small Co-op supermarket, a tea room and a public toilet. Castleton is a centre for walking, birdwatching, shooting and many other pursuits. It is said that Castleton was named after a castle built near the River Esk. The village has a Clapper bridge that spans Danby Beck; this bridge was listed as Grade II in 2016.Castleton has a primary school (Castleton Community Primary School) with secondary education available at Caedmon College or Eskdale School, which are both in Whitby.In times past Castleton was actually the main market and industrial town serving Upper Eskdale. There were annual wool, cheese and cattle fairs, cheese market and a silk mill. There is a show held at Castleton every September on the second Saturday in the month.

Glaisdale Head Methodist Church is a historic chapel in Glaisdale, a valley in North Yorkshire, in England. The chapel was built by the Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1821, along with an attached manse. The manse was extended in 1850. By the early 20th century, it was one of four Wesleyan chapels in the small valley. The building was grade II listed in 1969, along with the walls surrounding the churchyard. It is on the Heritage at Risk Register, due to damp caused by being built partly into the ground, but is still in use as a Methodist chapel. The original part of the building has a Westmorland slate roof, and the extension has a purple slate roof. The chapel has one tall storey, and a square plan with fronts of two bays. The windows are round-headed sashes with voussoirs, and on the west front is a gabled porch with an inscribed and dated oval plaque. The manse has two storeys and a basement, one gabled bay facing the road, and steps leading up to the doorway. The extension on the east side is approached by steps in the angle, and the windows are sashes. In front is a wall with heavy flat coping, and at the left are steps up to the chapel, with a large square dated pier with a domed square cap at the bottom . From this, railings with curved heads run alongside the steps. The interior is plain, with a pulpit and curved benches.

The Woodsmith Mine Tunnel (also known as a Mineral Transport System [MTS]) is a 23-mile (37 km) long tunnel that will stretch between Woodsmith Mine at Sneatonthorpe near Whitby in North Yorkshire and the Wilton International complex on Teesside, England. The tunnel has been in development since 2016, but cutting of the tunnel bore did not start until April 2019, with a projected finish date of 2021, but it was still not complete by the end of 2023. By the end of July 2020, over 4 miles (6.4 km) of tunnel had been dug. When finished, the tunnel will be the longest tunnel in the United Kingdom and will also house the longest conveyor in the UK. The estimated cost of the tunnel in November 2018 was £1.1 billion.

The station, situated 16 miles 45 chains (26.7 km) west of Whitby, serves the village of Castleton, Scarborough in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

Lealholm Methodist Chapel is a historic Methodist place of worship in Lealholm, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The chapel was built in 1839 for the Wesleyan Methodist Church. By the early 20th century, it was one of four Wesleyan chapels in the small valley. The chapel has been flooded on numerous occasions, and the heights of various floods are marked by cuts on the external stonework. The chapel was grade II* listed in 1969. The chapel is built of sandstone, with a sill band, and a purple slate roof with a stone ridge, copings and curved kneelers. There is one tall storey, three bays, and a small single-storey extension to the southeast. The doorway has a pointed-arched head and a hooded fanlight. The windows are sashes, also with pointed-arched heads. Above the doorway is a square panel with fan-patterned spandrels and a dated and inscribed oval plaque.

Lealholm is a small village in the Glaisdale civil parish, in the county of North Yorkshire, England. It is sited at a crossing point of the River Esk, in Eskdale which is within the North York Moors National Park. It is 9.5 miles (15.3 km) by road from the nearest town of Whitby, and approximately 27 miles (43 km) from both Middlesbrough and Scarborough. The village is typical of those found all across the North York Moors which straddle the main through-routes along the valley bottoms. It is mostly built of local stone with pantiled or slate roofs. Settlement around modern-day Lealholm can be traced back to the Domesday Book of 1086, with entries concerning the Manor of Crumbeclive and "Lelum" at the site of Lealholm Hall, Lealholmside. Lealholmside is a hamlet by Lealholm, and was a popular location with the photographer Francis Meadow Sutcliffe. A honeypot during the summer months, Lealholm is located midway along the Esk valley between the villages of Glaisdale, to the east and Danby to the west. Lealholm is on the route of the Esk valley railway line, which runs from Whitby to Middlesbrough, and is served by Lealholm railway station. A large part of the community is involved in farming due to the high fertility of the slopes in Eskdale, whilst other members of the community are involved in tourism or commute to industrial centres such as Middlesbrough. This led to the economy of the area being hard hit by the 2001 UK foot and mouth crisis. Lealhom was a place of affection for Irish-born poet John Castillo, who wrote "Ah lovely Lealholm! Where shall I begin. To say what thou art now and once hast been?".
