Dronfield Manor is an early 18th-century manor house situated at Dronfield, Derbyshire, which is occupied by the town library. It is a Grade II listed building.The manor of Dronfield was owned by the Crown until granted by King John to William Briewer. Thereafter it passed through several hands until in about 1600 it was sold by Anthony Morewood to Francis Burton.The old manor house was replaced with the present house by Ralph Burton in about 1700. The sandstone house is two storeyed with a seven bay entrance front, the central bay of which projects to form a two-storey porch with an arched doorwayBurton died in 1714 and the estate passed to his sister's husband Rossington. Rossington sold to John Rotheram (High Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1750. His son Samuel Rotheram (High Sheriff in 1773) died in 1795 and the estate passed to his sister and then by her bequest to Joseph CecilThe manor remained in the ownership of the Cecil family until the 20th century. In the 1930s it was acquired by the Dronfield local authority for use as council offices. Since 1967 the building has been occupied by the town's library

Dronfield Urban District

Dronfield was an Urban District in Derbyshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894. It was enlarged in 1935 when parts of the civil parishes of Coal Aston, Dronfield Woodhouse and Unstone were transferred to the district. The district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and combined with Chesterfield Rural District (except the civil parish of Brimington) and Clay Cross Urban District to form the new North East Derbyshire district.

Dronfield

Dronfield is a town in North East Derbyshire, England, which includes Dronfield Woodhouse and Coal Aston. It lies in the valley of the River Drone between Chesterfield and Sheffield. The Peak District National Park is three miles (4.8 km) to the west. The name comes from the Old English Dranfleld, probably meaning an open land infested with drone bees.The town existed before the 1086 Domesday Book, and has a 13th-century parish church. In 1662, Charles II granted the town a market, although this later ceased. The industrial history of the town includes coal mining, the wool trade, the production of soap and steel, and engineering. Today a range of manufacturing firms still operate in the town. The stadium to the north of the town is officially "The Home of Football", providing the playing surface for Sheffield F.C., the world's oldest football club.Dronfield's population increased in the post-war years from 6,500 in 1945 to 21,261 at the 2011 Census.

Sheffield Football Club is an English football club from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. They currently compete in the Northern Premier League Division One East. Founded in October 1857, the club is recognised by FIFA as the oldest existing club still playing football in the world. Sheffield FC initially played games under the Sheffield Rules and did not officially adopt the new FA rules until 1878. The club competes in the Rules derby with near neighbours Hallam. In 2004 they were given the FIFA Order of Merit, an award given to only one other club; Real Madrid. In 2007 they were inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame, to commemorate their 150th anniversary.On the pitch, the club's finest hour came in 1904 when they won the FA Amateur Cup, a competition conceived after a suggestion by Sheffield. Bowshaw

Bowshaw is an area in Derbyshire, England, that now forms part of the town of Dronfield. There is little for the casual visitor to see except a long row of 20th-century houses alongside the road from Dronfield to Sheffield, although some notable buildings include Bowshaw House, built in the 1730s by the Lucas family, Bowshaw Farm (formed by a division of Bowshaw House by the Hatfield family c. 1940) and Bowshaw Inn.

Cowley is a small dispersed hamlet in North East Derbyshire, consisting of a few private houses and functioning farms strung out along Cowley Lane, which runs between the village of Holmesfield and the "Hill Top" neighbourhood of the town of Dronfield (where the population is included). Until 2001 it held an annual well dressing in the grounds of Cowley Mission, a small chapel founded in 1888 and still active.
