Marryatville High School

Marryatville is a small suburb about 4–5 kilometres (2.5–3.1 mi) east of Adelaide's central business district, in the local council area of City of Norwood Payneham St Peters. Comprising low- to medium-density housing, two large schools, a church and several shops, it also has two creeks running through it. The first European settler on the land was George Brunskill in 1839, with part of the land purchased and laid out as a village in 1848 by James Philcox.

Loreto College Marryatville is an independent Roman Catholic primary and secondary day and boarding school for girls, located in Marryatville, an inner-eastern suburb of Adelaide located about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from the Adelaide city centre, in South Australia, Australia. Established in 1905, the school is one of many around the world directed by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM). It caters for some 1,000 students from Reception to Year 12, including 70 boarders.

East Torrens was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia from 1857 to 1902 and again from 1915 to 1938.East Torrens was also the name of an electoral district of the unicameral South Australian Legislative Council from 1851 until its abolition in 1857, George Waterhouse (July 1851 to June 1854), Charles Fenn (June 1854 to August 1855) and John Bristow Hughes (September 1855 to February 1857) being the members.

Leabrook is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Burnside. It is a primarily residential suburb in eastern Adelaide, and was the site of Coopers Brewery, until its relocation to Regency Park, South Australia. Most of the suburb previously known as Knightsbridge now lies within Leabrook.

Kensington Park is an eastern suburb of Adelaide in the City of Burnside in South Australia. It is bordered by Magill Road to the north, Glynburn Road to the east, Kensington Road to the south, and Gurrs and Shipsters Roads to the west. It is home to the Regal Theatre (formerly Chelsea Cinema) and all three campuses of Pembroke School.

The Regal Theatre, formerly known as the Chelsea Cinema, the Princess Theatre and the Ozone Marryatville or Marryatville Ozone Theatre, is a single-screen cinema in Kensington Park, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. Originally built in 1925, it retains the features of a major renovation in Art Deco style in 1941, and was heritage-listed on the state register in 1983. It is the oldest continuously running purpose-built cinema in Adelaide, and the only remaining silent cinema still operating. As of July 2020 the cinema is closed for refurbishment, although restrictions on cinemas due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia have lifted.

Mary MacKillop College is a Catholic girls secondary school in the Adelaide suburb of Kensington. The Josephite sisters have been providing Catholic education in Kensington since 1872 six years after the order was founded by Mary MacKillop, who lived in the Kensington district for eleven years. Since then several sites in the area have been used as schools; the current secondary college developed out of a "cottage school" on the grounds of the convent across the road.Mary MacKillop College educates students from Year 7 to Year 12. Middle school students (Years 7, 8 and 9) study compulsory courses across eight key learning areas. Senior students are allowed greater flexibility in their studies from Year 10 and undertake studies towards the South Australian Certificate of Education in Years 11 and 12. Senior students are also able to undertake Vocational Education and Training courses.Mary MacKillop College is a member of the South Australian Catholic Girls Sports Association and the South Australian Secondary Sports Association, and students from the College participate in a variety of team and individual sporting competitions. Students are also able to participate in various cultural, liturgical and community activities.In 2010 there were 537 students enrolled at the school. In 2015 there were 320. In 2020, there were 406 students enrolled at the school, across years 7 to 12.

The Burnside War Memorial Hospital is the only private community hospital in the City of Burnside, Adelaide, South Australia. A local resident of Toorak Gardens, Otto George Ludwig von Rieben, offered his Attunga property for use as a community hospital free of charge in 1944. The council had first suggested building a community hospital in August 1943 as part of its Post-War Reconstruction and Development Committee; it was to cost 100,000 pounds and to remain as a memorial to honour Burnside's war dead. In April 1949 the first conversion of von Rieben's home was complete and the hospital was caring for 21 patients. The hospital closed for a month in 1956 and when it reopened was given its present name: The Burnside War Memorial Hospital. By then it had cared for over 1,400 patients.

Attunga was a mansion which now forms part of a hospital. The mansion was built by Benjamin Burford in 1900 on 4.5 acres (1.8ha) at 120 Kensington Road, in what was then Rose Park, (an inner eastern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia). Containing 14 rooms, the two storey house is the largest and most extravagant mansion built in the area that became known as the suburb of Toorak Gardens. With Burford's death in 1905, the property was bought by an investor from Broken Hill, Otto Georg Ludwig von Rieben. While maintaining and paying particular attention to the property, von Rieben eventually settled at "Pomona" at Mt Lofty in the Adelaide Hills.In 1944, almost forty years after he purchased it, and having lived in it for 37 years, von Rieben (then aged 82) offered Attunga to the Burnside Council free of charge, for use as a hospital, with the stipulation that the house and gardens be preserved. (In August 1943, a committee of the Council had suggested building a community hospital as part of the Council's Post-War Reconstruction and Development Plan. In November 1943, the Council adopted the committee's recommendation to spend up to £100,000 on the building of a hospital, and that the hospital was intended to be the district's principle memorial to honour Burnside's war dead. In February 1944, Mayor P.R. Claridge announced von Rieben's donation. The council subsequently unanimously accepted the donation.)By April 1949, the first stage of the conversion of the mansion had been completed, with Attunga having been converted into a convalescent hospital caring for 21 patients. When it closed in September 1956 it had cared for over 1,400 patients. In October 1956, the adjacent new 45-bed Burnside War Memorial Hospital, built at a cost of £145,000, was opened. The mansion has subsequently been used for a number of medical support purposes - for example, since March 1989 it has used as the "Attunga Medical Centre". In the 21st century, the mansion and its well-kept formal gardens continue to occupy nearly all of the western half of the original 4.5 acres, with multi-story hospital buildings covering most of the eastern half of the original area.

Toorak Gardens is a leafy, mainly residential inner eastern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, located 2 km east of the Adelaide city centre. This is one of South Australia’s most expensive suburbs. It is characterised by tree-lined streets and detached single story villas and bungalows built in the 1920s and 1930s on allotments of around 0.25 acres (0.1 hectares). The Toorak Gardens area was part of the then larger and now adjacent suburb of Rose Park. Between 1912 and 1917 it was named "Toorak" and subsequently "Toorak Gardens". Originally farmland owned by the Fergusson and Prescott families in the 19th century, it was subdivided and gained popularity in 1920s. First Creek, part of the Torrens catchment, runs through the north-east corner of the suburb. Toorak Gardens is in the local government area of the City of Burnside, and is bounded to the north by Kensington Road, to the east by Portrush Road, to the south by Greenhill Road and to the west by Prescott Terrace and Warwick Avenue.It contains the Burnside War Memorial Hospital; converted from a grand mansion in 1949, it remains Burnside's only local community hospital.
