St Vincent's Church, Ashington

The Anglican Church of St James in Chilton Cantelo, Somerset, England was built in the 15th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.

The River Cam is a tributary of the River Yeo in the south of Somerset, England. The Cam rises east of Yarlington (51°00′06″N 2°38′11″W). It flows south west past North Cadbury, Sparkford, Queen Camel and West Camel, and joins the Yeo near Yeovilton (51°00′06″N 2°38′11″W).Other tributaries include the stream (designated Main River) through Blackford and Compton Pauncefoot and benefited from works in the 1980s to the riverbanks in Blackford to help keep the water moving. Flooding in Blackford is rarer than previously, as a result. This tributary stream has its headwaters in the hills around Blackford and Compton Pauncefoot together with a number of springs. The main waters come from three primary sources: Maperton, Quarry Hill and Sigwells Hill. The first two combine in Blackford around the Crossroads/Hollow and further springs contribute at several points all the way through both villages. The river then travels under the A303 to join the Yarlington headwaters. The Cam flows onto the Royal Naval Station at Yeovilton where it joins the Yeo, which in turn flows west to the south of Yeovilton and through the town of Ilchester. The river course continues to the west and at Langport becomes the River Parrett. In 2009 the river burst its banks at West Camel following flash flooding.The dates the river got to top of the banks in Blackford since 2000 were: 9th May 2023 24th March 2023 4th January 2014 9th February 2009 13th December 2008 Previous floods: 2000 May 1979 - major flooding of church 9th May 2023 flooding was caused by 2 thunderstorms converging and becoming trapped in the vicinity of North Cadbury and creating major flooding from River Cam (& tributaries) of Queen Camel, West Camel, North Cadbury and other villages making the national news. Somerset County Council has started a Section 19 investigation under the Flood & Water Management Act 2010 by holding a series of meetings in June 2023 to gather information. A report will be issued in due course. The Environment Agency has a monitoring station that gives a clear idea of how the water levels in the River Cam at Weston Bampfylde [1] rises and falls: 0.60m is considered normal Record High Levels: 2.09m 13.12.08 2.85m 9.5.23 The data shows the river exceeded 1m on 28 occasions between 1998 and 2023: 1m - 1.29m 14 occasions 1.3m - 1.49m 8 occasions 1.5m or more 6 occasions Total 28 1998 - Oct 2002 = 0 Nov 2002 - Dec 2007 = 3 Jan 2008 - Dec 2012 = 10 Jan 2013 - Dec 2018 = 10 Jan 2019 - Jul 2023 = 5 Total 28 Some years had no events and the maximum in one year was 5 in 2008.

Chilton Cantelo School was a small profit-making mixed private school located in the village of Chilton Cantelo (near Yeovil and Sherborne) in Somerset, England. The school was briefly owned and operated by the Cognita Group. Set on 25 acres (10 ha) of grounds, an 18th-century manor house housed the school. It accepted pupils between the ages of 4 and 18. The school had boarding places for up to 220 of its pupils, with day pupils offered 'flexi-boarding' when needed. Class sizes were typically small. Chilton Cantelo School was a member of the Independent Schools Association, the Independent Schools Council and the Boarding Schools Association. In July 2016, Cognita closed the school, making staff redundant, because of a fall in admissions since 2007.Chilton Cantelo became home to The Park School, prior to The Park School's closure.

Mudford Manor is a historic 17th century Jacobean manor house situated on the Dorset/Somerset border in Mudford, Yeovil. The estate is surrounded by wild meadows with far-reaching views over the River Yeo to the village of Trent in Dorset. The Mudford Manor house is a six-bed freehold detached house situated and is one of two properties situated on the Mudford Manor Estate along with Mudford Manor Barn. Originally there were three rooms in the main range; a living room, and unheated room and a parlour. One the first floor was bed chambers and one attic room. The north wing is now rebuilt but it was thought that a substantial kitchen with a large fireplace would have been originally located here. The house has large bay windows on the south front which were a fashionable feature of some houses of the time. It features a studded, thick timber front door. In the 18th century other parts of the manor were added such as the west wing and a new kitchen. Some of the original features of the manor have since been lost or replaced such as the main roof and staircase which were damaged in a serious fire in 1975. It has gardens, grounds and a paddock in total extending to 5.6 acres.

Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, commonly referred to as RNAS Yeovilton, (IATA: YEO, ICAO: EGDY) (HMS Heron) is a military airbase of the Royal Navy, sited a few miles north of Yeovil, in the English county of Somerset. It is one of two active Fleet Air Arm bases, the other being RNAS Culdrose). RNAS Yeovilton is currently home to the Royal Navy Wildcat HMA2, along with Army Air Corps Wildcat AH1 helicopters, as well as the Royal Navy's Commando Helicopter Force Merlin HCi3/4/4A and Wildcat AH1 helicopters. The site consists of 1,000 acres (1.6 square miles; 4.0 square kilometres) of airfield sites, plus ranges and minor estates. Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton is a large multi-role air station, with an annual budget of some £61 million. The airfield is also home to the Fleet Air Arm Museum, and until 2019 the station hosted an annual Air Day in July.

Chilton Cantelo is a village and parish in Somerset, England, situated on the River Yeo 5 miles (8 km) north of Yeovil and 4 miles (6 km) east of Ilchester in the South Somerset district. The village has a population of 445. The parish also includes the village of Ashington.

The Church of St Bartholomew in the parish of Yeovilton, Somerset, England, was built around 1300. It is a Grade II* listed building.The church became the property of Montacute Priory and then part of the Diocese of Bath and Wells. It still contains some fabric and fittings from the 14th and 15th centuries but underwent a major restoration in the Victorian era. The church fell into disrepair in the 20th century but has been taken over and restored as the Fleet Air Arm’s Memorial Church following links since World War II with the nearby airbase RNAS Yeovilton.

The Church of St Mary in Mudford, Somerset, England, dates from the 14th century and has been designated as a Grade I listed building.The church was granted by Montacute Priory to the Bishop of Bath and Wells in 1339. The interior includes a Jacobean pulpit and a stone font from the 15th century.It has a 66 feet (20 m) high three-stage tower, which dates from around 1498, divided by string courses with clasping corner buttresses, a battlemented parapet with small corner and intermediate pinnacles, and corner gargoyles. There is a stair turret on the north-east corner with a weathervane finial, and a clock face on the east side. It contains five bells dated 1582, 1621, 1623, 1664 and 1666, all by the Purdue family of nearby Closworth. The tower was rebuilt in 1309 and again in the early 20th century following a lightning strike.The parish is part of the benefice of Chilton Cantelo, Ashington, Marston Magna, Mudford and Rimpton within the Yeovil deanery.Due to the condition of the high level stonework the church has been added to the Heritage at Risk Register; however repairs were undertaken in 2013 to correct this.The church graveyard is the resting place of Bishop Bill Flagg, the first Bishop of Northern Argentina and Paraguay, who was born and raised in Mudford.

Yeovilton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Yeovilton and District, in Somerset, England, 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Ilchester and 5 miles (8.0 km) north of Yeovil, in South Somerset district. The parish had a population of 1,226 in the 2011 census, estimated at 1,418 in 2019. This includes Podimore (also known as Puddimore or Milton Podimore) and the hamlets of Speckington and Bridgehampton. The village includes RNAS Yeovilton (HMS Heron) and the associated Fleet Air Arm Museum.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum is devoted to the history of British naval aviation. It has an extensive collection of military and civilian aircraft, aero engines, models of aircraft and Royal Navy ships (especially aircraft carriers), and paintings and drawings related to naval aviation. It is located on RNAS Yeovilton airfield, and the museum has viewing areas where visitors can watch military aircraft (especially helicopters) take off and land. At the entrance to the museum are anchors from HMS Ark Royal and HMS Eagle, fleet carriers which served the Royal Navy until the 1970s. It is located 7 miles (11 km) north of Yeovil, and 40 miles (64 km) south of Bristol.

The Church of Saint Mary in Limington, Somerset, England dates from the late 14th century and includes fragments of an earlier building. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building.Fragments of the north door and tower date from the Norman period, but most of the building are from the 14th century with the north chapel being dated to 1328. It is built of local stone with Hamstone dressings. The tower has six bells, the oldest of which is from the 15th century. The interior includes a pulpit and altar table from the 17th century and an octagonal font from the 16th. There are several effigies including one of Sir Richard Gyvernay who built the chantry chapel and died in 1329. Below this is a smaller female figure and there is also a double monument of a male and female figure, which are believed to be Henry and Matilda Power and date from the 1340s.One rector of renown was Thomas Wolsey who held the living between 1500 and 1509, before becoming a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. resident in the parish for at least 5 years he was placed in the stocks by the Sheriff of Somerset for 'drunken and lewd behaviour' at the Merriott fare. The Anglican parish is part of the benefice of Ilchester with Northover, Limington Yeovilton and Podimore within the archdeaconry of Wells.

Mudford is a village and parish in Somerset, England, situated 3 miles (4.8 km) from Yeovil in the South Somerset district on the River Yeo. The village has a population of 696. The parish includes the hamlets of Mudford Sock, West Mudford and Up Mudford. The village lies on the Monarch's Way, a 615 miles (990 km) long-distance footpath that approximates the escape route taken by King Charles II in 1651 after being defeated in the Battle of Worcester.
