Neuenheimer Feld is an area in the city of Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The area lies on the north side of the Neckar river and consists mostly of buildings associated with the University of Heidelberg, including student accommodation and research facilities, as well as the University Hospital Heidelberg. The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the Max Planck Society also have facilities on the site. On maps, addresses and in local language, the area is often referred to as "Im Neuenheimer Feld" (INF), with the inclusion of the German word "Im" meaning "in the". On 24 January 2022, Neuenheimer Feld became the site of a deadly school shooting.

The Heidelberg University shooting occurred on 24 January 2022, when an 18-year-old male student, Nikolai G., opened fire on a crowd during an ongoing lecture in Heidelberg University in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, killing one student and injuring three others. The shooter then fled the scene and later committed suicide by shooting himself. The police arrived at the scene shortly after the attack, and launched an investigation. The gunman's motives are reported to be unclear. Several public figures and organizations expressed their condolences and offered support to the affected students and their families. It was the first school shooting in Germany that resulted in fatalities since the Winnenden school shooting in March 2009.

The South Asia Institute (SAI) is an interdisciplinary center of the Ruprecht-Karls University Heidelberg, Germany for research and teaching on South Asia (that is, the research subjects are the countries Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka). It was founded in 1962 and is located on the campus in Neuenheimer Feld. Due to the close linguistic and historical ties with the South Asian subcontinent, adjacent cultural regions such as Afghanistan or Tibet are also included in the South Asia Institute.

University Hospital Heidelberg (German: Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg) is a university hospital in Heidelberg, Germany and is one of the largest medical centers in the country. It is closely linked to Heidelberg University Medical School (Heidelberg University Faculty of Medicine) which was founded in 1388 and is thus the oldest within the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Faculty of Biosciences is one of twelve faculties at the University of Heidelberg. It comprises the Institute of Zoology, the Institute for Plant Science, the Neurobiology, and the Institute of Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology. Heidelberg Zoo is a zoo in Germany which was founded in 1933 and opened for the public on 20 November 1934. Since 1998, the zoo director has been Klaus Wünnemann.

The Heidelberg Faculty of Theology (German: Theologische Fakultät der Universität Heidelberg) is one of twelve faculties at the University of Heidelberg. It was one of the four founding faculties in 1386. As of 2023, the faculty's dean is Jan Stievermann.

Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (commonly known as Heidelberg HBF) is the main railway station for the city of Heidelberg. In 2005 it was used by around 42,000 passengers per day and is one of the largest passenger stations in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The station is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 2 station.The first station was built in 1840 as a terminus near the old town of Heidelberg. Urban problems as a result of the extension of part of the station to form a through station in 1862 and a lack of expansion options resulted in a decision the early 20th century to relocate the station as a new through station a kilometre to the west. Interrupted by two world wars, the relocation of the Heidelberg railway facilities took over 50 years. Inaugurated in 1955, the station is now considered to be "the most beautiful and architecturally interesting buildings of Deutsche Bundesbahn", and since 1972 it has been listed as a "cultural monument of special importance" under the historical monuments register of Baden-Württemberg. The station is located in Willy-Brandt-Platz about two kilometres west of central Heidelberg. Diagonally opposite is the headquarters of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen. It is served by the Rhine-Neckar S-Bahn.

Distributed Computing is a peer reviewed scientific journal in the field of computer science, published by Springer. The journal covers the field of distributed computing, with contributions to the theory, specification, design, and implementation of distributed systems.

Bergheim is a city district of Heidelberg. It is bounded on the North by the Neckar River, the East by the Bismarkplatz, on the South by the Kurfürsten Anlage and the South by the city line. It is a mostly urban residential area, however the Bergheim Campus of the University of Heidelberg has numerous buildings in the district. Since March 2009 the Heidelberg University Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences has occupied the former Ludolf Krehl clinic (after Ludolf von Krehl). Bergheim also has a number of parks, both along the river and near the Stadtbücherei.
