The Saône ( SOHN, French: [son]; Arpitan: Sona; Latin: Arar) is a river in eastern France. It is a right tributary of the Rhône, rising at Vioménil in the Vosges department and joining the Rhône in Lyon, at the southern end of the Presqu'île. The name Saône derives from that of the Gallic river goddess Souconna, which has also been connected with a local Celtic tribe, the Sequanes. Monastic copyists progressively transformed Souconna to Saoconna, which ultimately gave rise to Saône. The other recorded ancient names for the river were Brigoulus and Arar.

The Cité Scolaire Internationale de Lyon (CSI), also known as the Lycée International de Lyon or Lycée de Gerland, is an international school located near the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône in the city of Lyon, France. It provides education combining regular French classes with classes in the second language of the student. The international sections include English, Italian, Spanish, Polish, German, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic and Japanese. The classes are taught from primary level all the way up to the high school diploma, the Baccalaureat, which is available with the International Option (OIB, or "Option Internationale du Baccalauréat"). There are 1900 students in the school, from primary to high school; over 40 nationalities are represented. As in all French lycées, students in the last two years ("première" and "terminale") can choose between an "L" section (literary), an "ES" section (economy and society) and an "S" section (scientific). International students are also able to prepare for the OIB, and take classes in literature, history and geography in their second language. The school constantly rates top in the region, i.e. in 2005, 97% of the graduating students received their baccalaureate, whereas the "2004-2005 success rate for the baccalauréat in mainland France was 79.7%" (see baccalauréat article). The building is located on the Rhône riverside, and is a novelty in terms of architecture. After 15 years of hardship with the famous skyroof, a brand new one has been set in as of September 2007.

The Halle Tony Garnier is an arena and concert hall in Lyon, France. It was designed by Tony Garnier in 1905. Originally a slaughterhouse, the building was renovated in 1987 and opened as a concert hall in 1988. With a capacity of nearly 17,000, it is the third biggest venue in France after the Accor Arena and Paris La Défense Arena.

The Aquarium de Lyon is a public aquarium located in the La Mulatière district of the city of Lyon, France, near the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers in the Rhône department. Like the Aqualand parks elsewhere in Europe, it belongs to the Spanish group Aspro-Ocio.Created by Maurice Chichportiche and opened in October 2002, the aquarium has 39 tanks with a total of more than 1,000,000 litres (220,000 imp gal; 260,000 US gal) of water, showing visitors 3,000 fish and other aquatic animals representing 300 species.The largest aquarium is called "Fosse Aux Requins". It contains a false shipwreck in polyurethane resin (the iron would have rusted and the rust is toxic to fishes). Its glass is 23 centimetres thick to resist the water pressure.

Confluence is a major shopping mall in Lyon, France, opened on 4 April 2012. It is located in the 2nd arrondissement of the city, in the new neighbourhood of Confluence.

The École normale supérieure de Lyon (also known as ENS de Lyon, ENSL or Normale Sup' Lyon) is a French grande école located in the city of Lyon. It is one of the four prestigious écoles normales supérieures in France. The school is composed of two academic units —Arts and Sciences— with campuses in Lyon, near the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers. ENSL's students usually enjoy a special civil servant status in the wake of highly competitive exams, providing they pursue careers in public service. Although it maintains extensive connections with the University of Lyon and external research institutions, including the CNRS, the school remains independent.

The Patinoire Charlemagne is an ice rink in Lyon, France, located in the Confluence quarter, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. It hosts many international competitions, such as the European Championships of figure skating, and entertainments and is reserved for various sports including figure skating, hockey, and curling. It is also the seat of the Lyon Hockey Club and the Club des Sports de Glace de Lyon, the club of Olympic champions Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat, and world champions Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Shoenfelder. It was ordered in 1967 to architects R. Roustit and C. Batton, assisted by G. Morel, on the occasion of the candidature of Lyon in the Olympic Games, and was built with plans of 1963. It was inaugurated in April 1969 and opened to public in September 1969.This is one of the largest rinks in France: it has indeed Olympic-size, namely 60 x 30 meters. The building is 80 x 70 meters at ground level and the roof tilted toward the rear of the building is 72 meters long. The materials of the buildings are reinforced concrete, glass and aluminum. The rink is composed of a skating rink, technological offices, stands with 5000 seats (3200 seated places), a large hall, changing rooms specialist, a bar and a room for meetings, gyms and dance. It has about 400,000 entries each year.The patinoire Charlemagne architecture was reused for other sport buildings in Lyon area, including pools of Vaise and Mermoz, both built in 1969. The ice rink is listed in the Rhône-Alpes inventory of twentieth-century buildings which has an architectural interest and whose value should be enhanced. The building had major expansions in 2001. It was also the subject of a renovation from 1 May to 15 September 2006 with a cost of 3.7 million euro. These renovations mainly concerned the roof (1980 m2 of covered area), the acoustic treatment and security in case of fire.

La Mulatière (French pronunciation: ​[la mylatjɛʁ]) is a commune in the Metropolis of Lyon in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in eastern France. The city is known, among other things, for its Aquarium du Grand Lyon.

The Cours Charlemagne is a large central street located in the Perrache quarter, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. This street is dedicated to Charlemagne, who came several times to Lyon. In addition, the bishop Leidrade represented the emperor in the city and by his great work of reconstruction. The Cours Charlemagne begins Place des Archives, just at the south of the vaults of the interchange of Perrache. It ends on the Quai Perrache, which overlooks the Pont Pasteur.

Parc Henry-Chabert, previously Parc de Gerland (pronounced [paʁk də ʒəʁlɑ̃nd]) and also called Parc du Confluent, is a large greenspace in Lyon situated on a former industrial site in the south of the city near the confluence of the Rhône and the Saone. Construction began in 1996, and the park was developed over an area of 80 hectares (200 acres). The initial two phases of construction concluded in 2000 and 2006, and were carried out by landscape architect Michel Corajoud. The project was managed by Grand Lyon. The park was renamed to Parc Henry-Chabert on 19 December 2020.The park includes several playgrounds, a skatepark and a botanical garden. It is situated next to the Stade de Gerland, and was used during the French archery championship finals in 2007 and 2012.

Perrache is a quarter of the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, in the south of the Presqu'île.

International School of Lyon (ISL) is an English-language international school in Sainte Foy-Lès-Lyon, France, near Lyon. The school serves preschool (beginning at age 3) through senior high school. It was established in March 2004.
