Cours Charlemagne

The Patinoire Charlemagne is an ice rink in Lyon, France, located in the Confluence quarter, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. It hosts many international competitions, such as the European Championships of figure skating, and entertainments and is reserved for various sports including figure skating, hockey, and curling. It is also the seat of the Lyon Hockey Club and the Club des Sports de Glace de Lyon, the club of Olympic champions Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat, and world champions Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Shoenfelder. It was ordered in 1967 to architects R. Roustit and C. Batton, assisted by G. Morel, on the occasion of the candidature of Lyon in the Olympic Games, and was built with plans of 1963. It was inaugurated in April 1969 and opened to public in September 1969.This is one of the largest rinks in France: it has indeed Olympic-size, namely 60 x 30 meters. The building is 80 x 70 meters at ground level and the roof tilted toward the rear of the building is 72 meters long. The materials of the buildings are reinforced concrete, glass and aluminum. The rink is composed of a skating rink, technological offices, stands with 5000 seats (3200 seated places), a large hall, changing rooms specialist, a bar and a room for meetings, gyms and dance. It has about 400,000 entries each year.The patinoire Charlemagne architecture was reused for other sport buildings in Lyon area, including pools of Vaise and Mermoz, both built in 1969. The ice rink is listed in the Rhône-Alpes inventory of twentieth-century buildings which has an architectural interest and whose value should be enhanced. The building had major expansions in 2001. It was also the subject of a renovation from 1 May to 15 September 2006 with a cost of 3.7 million euro. These renovations mainly concerned the roof (1980 m2 of covered area), the acoustic treatment and security in case of fire.

Perrache is a quarter of the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, in the south of the Presqu'île.

The French Federation of Speleology (Fédération Française de Spéléologie, FFS), is a French organisation that represents all persons practicing or studying caving and canyoning and promotes the study and conservation of caves. It was formed in 1963 by the amalgamation of two organisations, the Comité national de spéléologie (CNS), or National Committee of Speleology, and the Société spéléologique de France (SSF), or Speleological Society of France.

Confluence is a major shopping mall in Lyon, France, opened on 4 April 2012. It is located in the 2nd arrondissement of the city, in the new neighbourhood of Confluence.

Prison Saint-Paul, also named Prison Saint-Paul - Saint Joseph was the maison d'arrêt of Lyon, France, located in the Confluence quarter, 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, in the south of the Gare de Lyon-Perrache. It was so named because of its proximity to the Palais de Justice and its address is 33 cours Suchet. The building, being too old, is now the subject of new projects. All prisoners have been moved to the new prison of Corbas.

The Institut polytechnique de Lyon (IPL) is a research university system located in Lyon, France. It consists of four engineering schools : CPE Lyon, ECAM LaSalle, ISARA Lyon and ITECH Lyon. It has been created the 13th of January 1992 to initially respond to a request from the Rhône-Alpes region, to pool resources.Today, the objectives of the IPL are to achieve synergy between member schools, to promote certain concerted actions and being the interlocutor of the administrative and regional authorities. Its missions are therefore: development of the human and general training of the engineer. development of international relations. development of relations with institutional partners in Rhône-Alpes, in particular the University of Lyon, of which it is an associate member.

Lyon-Perrache (French: gare de Lyon-Perrache) is a large railway station located in the Perrache district, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, France. The station was opened in 1857 and is located on the Paris–Marseille railway, Lyon–Geneva railway and Moret–Lyon railway. The train services are operated by SNCF and include TGV, Intercity and local services. The station was built in 18 months starting in 1855 by François-Alexis Cendrier for the Chemin de fer de Paris à Lyon. From the beginning it was designed as a central station unifying the lines of the three companies then serving Lyon, which merged to form the Chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) as the station was opening. The building was built in classical style and is composed of a double rooftop and a large passenger building. The station lost its view of the city when an intermodal terminal (combining local public transit and intercity buses) and dual-carriageway highway were built in front of it in the 1970s. Although much modern building has somewhat tarnished the look of the area, the station retains many of its original features: The station front features the names of towns served by trains departing Lyon-Perrache. The platforms are covered by two twin iron rooftops.It is the terminus of the LGV Sud-Est line, the high-speed railway line from Paris. It is also served by conventional trains from other parts of France, and is the terminus of line of the Lyon Metro. It is also the terminus of one of the Lyon tram lines. Today, however, Perrache is no longer the primary rail station serving Lyon. Instead, the Gare de Lyon-Part-Dieu, constructed in the 1970s in a large planned business district outside the central city, acts as the more popular embarkation point for most high-speed trains, especially to Paris and the north.

The Hôtel Mercure Lyon Centre Château Perrache, originally Hôtel Terminus, then Pullman Perrache, then Château Perrache, is a hotel of the AccorHotels group built in 1906. It is located on cours de Verdun in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. The hotel was used as the headquarters for the Gestapo in Lyon during the Second World War. It is the eponym of the Marcel Ophüls film Hôtel Terminus: The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie about the Gestapo in Lyon.

The Basilica of Saint-Just also known as Saint-Just basilica or the Maccabees Basilica was one of the oldest and most powerful churches in the city of Lyon until it was destroyed during the French Wars of Religion.It was then rebuilt under the same name but on another site (see Church of Saint-Just).

Perrache Multimodal Hub (Centre d'échanges de Perrache in French), also called Perrache or Lyon-Perrache, is a major transport hub in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. It is a large building with five levels, located next to the Lyon-Perrache railway station which is directly linked by a pedestrian footbridge. Named Perrache in the TCL urban transit network, it is a major hub served by métro line A, tramway lines T1 and T2 and many bus lines. The building also houses a coach station served by regional, national and international coach services. Some shops and restaurants are located inside. The junction between metropolitan highways M6 and M7 is located under the building.

The Brasserie Georges is a restaurant located in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. It is the oldest brasserie in the city and one of the largest brasseries in Europe. Its reputation is now international. With a history closely linked to that of Lyon, the brasserie serves typical dishes including the famous sausage of Lyon with pistachios, and recipes from other regions such as sauerkraut, baked Alaska or the seafood. In 1986 was served the biggest sauerkraut in the world; its weighed a ton and a half. In 1996, the largest baked Alaska (34 metres) has been served. The Brassarie Georges brews its own beer, a tradition from its inception, when water in Lyon was considered of exceptional quality. The restaurant never closes during the year. Over seven-hundred guests can be served at each service. On 8 December, during the fête des lumières, over 2,500 meals were served in a service. It is sometimes called the BG or Le Georges.

Montée Saint-Clair-Duport is a former street in the 5th arrondissement of Lyon, France, located between Quai Fulchiron and Rue de la Quarantaine near the Saint-Laurent de Choulans basilica. It took its name from Clair-Dominique-Eugène Duport and existed for less than a century before it was closed in 1967 with the construction of the Fourvière tunnel. The remains of the Saint-Laurent basilica, now visible on the Quai Fulchiron, and an impressive necropolis dating back to the Franco-Burgundian period were discovered under the road in the 1940s.
