The American Jazz Museum is located in the historic 18th and Vine district of Kansas City, Missouri. The museum preserves the history of American jazz music, with exhibits on Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and others. Nested within the museum is a fully functioning jazz club, The Blue Room, which holds live performances multiple nights a week.

The Mutual Musicians' Foundation Building is a historic building at 1823 Highland Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. It is also known as the Mutual Musicians Association Building or the Musician's Union Local or the Local No. 627 of the American Federation of Musicians. It was a center of the development of the "Kansas City Style" of jazz, and was immortalized in the song "627 Stomp". Famous members of the Mutual Musicians Foundation included Count Basie, Bennie Moten, Jay McShann, George F. Lee, singer Julia Lee, trumpeter Hot Lips Page, tenor saxophonists Dick Wilson, Herschel Evans and Lester Young, alto saxophonist Charlie Parker, drummer Baby Lovett, and pianist Pete Johnson. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1981. It continues to be used as an active performing venue, and also houses a museum.

18th and Vine is a neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri. It is internationally recognized as a historical point of origin of jazz music and a historic hub of African-American businesses. Along with Basin Street in New Orleans, Beale Street in Memphis, 52nd Street in New York City, and Central Avenue in Los Angeles, the 18th and Vine area fostered a new style of jazz. Kansas City jazz is a riff-based and blues-influenced sound developed in jam sessions in the neighborhood's crowded clubs. Many notable jazz musicians of the 1930s and 1940s lived or got started here, including Charlie Parker. Due to this legacy, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver said 18th and Vine is America's third most recognized street after Broadway and Hollywood Boulevard.In 1991, the national historic district encompassing 35 contributing buildings was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

City workhouse castle (Vine Street workhouse castle, Brant Castle) is a city historical register site located at 2001 Vine Street in Kansas City, Missouri. The castle was constructed by contractors in 1897 for US$25,700 (equivalent to $904,000 in 2022) next to the natural deposit of yellow limestone which had been quarried by inmates of the preceding city workhouse jail across Vine Street. On December 20, 1897, the castle was inaugurated as the city's new workhouse with dedicated jail. Its Romanesque Revival architecture with castellated towers were in vogue among the Kansas City upper class at the time. Its first Superintendent, Major Alfred Brant, proudly declared it "the best building Kansas City has". It was conceived as a model of humanitarian housing and rehabilitation. Its function in corrections ended in 1924, succeeded by the Leeds Farm to the remote east of the city where inmates also grew crops. The castle is two blocks south of the historic 18th and Vine, which has been referred to as America's third most recognized street after Broadway and Hollywood Boulevard due to the legacy of Kansas City jazz music. Across the next five decades, the castle and surrounding field were periodically repurposed more than one dozen times including as a city storage facility, a Marine training camp, and a dog euthanasia center—abandoned in 1972. Across the decades of infamous blight of the whole Vine Street District, the dilapidated wood interior collapsed down to only the open limestone walls. The structure steadily accumulated trash, trees, graffiti, and a cascade of unproductive owners and investors including Bank of America and a convicted con artist. The castle has been only a token feature among many broken promises by developers for lucrative areawide rehabilitation, at least one of whom proposed the structure's demolition. In 2014, it was bought conditionally cash-free by its current owner, Vewiser Dixon. In 2014, Daniel and Ebony Edwards led a huge nonprofit project to successfully remove 62 tons of trash, and then hosted their own wedding and various community events there, with the ultimately unrealized goal of buying and developing it into a permanent community center. The Kansas City Star nicknamed the project "Daniel and Ebony's Modern Fairy Tale", as the castle's first functionality in 42 years. The site has resumed vacancy and attracting graffiti since 2016.

Lincoln College Preparatory Academy (LCPA) (also known as Lincoln Prep Academy or The Castle on the Hill) is a three-year middle school and four-year college preparatory magnet school in the Kansas City, Missouri School District. The high school offers International Baccalaureate programs. Founded as a school for African Americans in 1865, it became a high school in 1890. It was not integrated until 1978 when it became a magnet school. The student body is now mostly black and hispanic. Less than 20 percent of students are white.Lincoln was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the "Top 100 High Schools" in the United States in 2012 and 2015. In 2008 and 2014, the school received the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education, the highest award an American school can receive.In 2015, the academy was named the best public school in the State of Missouri.

It was previously located at 3500 East Meyer Boulevard in the 2006-2007 school year. It was in the same building as Manual Career & Technical Center.

Western Baptist Bible College is Baptist college in Kansas City, Missouri, United States with branches in St. Louis, Missouri, and several branches in Kansas: Junction City, Olathe, Topeka, and Wichita. The school was founded by African-American Baptist ministers in Independence, Missouri, in 1890. Two years later, it moved to Macon, Missouri, before moving to its present location in Kansas City in 1921. It was the "first and only Christian Institution west of the Mississippi River founded by blacks exclusively."

Manual Career & Technical Center, Manual, or Vo-Tech is a career and technical center located in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. The Main Campus is located at 1215 East Truman Road. The East Campus is located at 1924 Van Brunt Boulevard at East High School. They are both a part of the Kansas City, Missouri School District.

Kansas City Municipal Stadium was an American baseball and football stadium in the central United States, located in Kansas City, Missouri. It was located at the corner of Brooklyn Avenue and E. 22nd Street. Municipal Stadium hosted both the minor-league Kansas City Blues of the American Association and the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro leagues from 1923 to 1955. The stadium was almost completely rebuilt prior to the 1955 baseball season when the Kansas City Athletics moved to Kansas City from Philadelphia. The Athletics played from 1955 to 1967, the Kansas City Royals from 1969 to 1972, the Kansas City Chiefs (American Football League and National Football League) from 1963 to 1971 and the Kansas City Spurs (North American Soccer League) from 1968 to 1969. The stadium hosted the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in 1960 (first game). In the final football game played there, Municipal Stadium was the site of the longest NFL game in history, a playoff game between the Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Day 1971; the Chiefs moved to the new Arrowhead Stadium in 1972. Jackie Robinson played at the stadium for the Kansas City Monarchs in 1945 until he was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers.
